Vanishing sent messages / IMAP

I searched on this forum for the answer and could not find it, so I apologize in advance if I missed it. I am set up for email with IMAP and whenever I send a message from my desktop computer, those emails show up on my Qtec in the sent messages folder. However, when I send messages from my Qtec, they are sent, but vanish completely from my sent messages (or any folder) on my Qtec or my desktop. I have no records of the emails I have sent from my handheld. My temporary workaround has been to cc myself and then move the received email into the sent messages folder, but thats a pain and not the way its supposed to work. Thanks in advance.

did you look in the messaging app

under the menu iteoms tools then options ou see a tab called message.
make sure keep copies of sent items in sent folder is ticked. :P

I'm having the same problem on a different Windows Mobile 5 device; I've ticked that setting (as well as syncing the "Sent Items" folder), but the messages still disappear. The same problem occurred on my older Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition device. Very odd.

its a bug... Its unbelievable that they havent fixed it in WM5 either! I've also been struggling to use this, the keep copy of sent items option being ticked doesnt work with IMAP for some daft reason.

I did some searching on the internet, and the (apparent) reason is to minimise memory usage on the pocket pc, which is fine for POP but the whole concept of IMAP is that all the email is on the server not on the device! So it really is a lack of foresight on the part of microsoft not to think about this, after all this is a great business tool, so the need for decent IMAP checking of sent-items is essential when you are "on the move"

Come on everyone, lets all complain to microsoft to fix this, It seems another solution is to use "flex mail" which has the ability to use a memory card as storage. I'll let everyone know my findings on wether it is a better solution than the built in email pocket outlook client.

Yesterday I spent a few hours trying to solve the problem of seeing sent items on an xda and outlook express as well with IMAP.

After much "mucking around" with different email clients, and not to mention finding some that work with WM5, I eventually figured out a workable solution - It involves installing and using flexmail instead of pocket outlook that comes with the pda.

Flexmail runs as a trial demo... to purchase it is $19.95, it also has SMS capability, and after installing and a restart replaces the messaging link on the today screen.

There is one extra step involved to make it work, so its not ideal, (see my earlier posting to the software company who make it) but it means you can achieve what you desired and see all emails sent from either the laptop/desktop pc and pda.

I think if you want to try this solution, It might be an idea to make sure you're using a memory card as this program can be configured to save emails to the memory card, which could be useful if you have large email attachment such as a scanned document, which might fill up the internal memory on the phone easily.

While digging around I found a Viking 2GB SD card (£40.26 ex vat)

Instructions

1) install and configure flexmail on your xda/pda to access your IMAP server

On flexmail, however, it stores any pocket pc outgoing emails in its own "local folder" called "sent". This is not uploaded for some strange reason.

Therefore to view the emails from anywhere, on flexmail, after sending, just open the "sent" folder and then go to the menu, and move the email into the imap folder called 'Sent-Items'.

A send and receive will upload these items, moving them out of the "local folder" and will then enable them to be viewed on any IMAP client - also on the pda from the same folder.

Flexmail also seems to support html email - which is nice! It has lots of configurable options and seems to be a great bit of software.

Obviously there might be some connectivity issues with larger file attachments over GPRS using IMAP. So try and find a 3G spot if you can - or someone's WIFI router for bigger attachments!
