Thanks for the response but I haven't had any success after several tries. I tried installing the Wizard unlock cab file and afterwards with Total Commander, I can reset the Read Only bit on all the files and copy the files to my SD card. However, I am unable to delete any files. They appear to be deleted but come back after a soft reset. I would like to especially get rid of all the operator settings files. The rest of the stuff like Skype, Anti Virus and Backgammon I can get rid of using Settings>Remove Programs.

hi, I am using Buzz's unlocker for Wizard... it made the ExtROM visible but still it is read only
I need to find how can I delete and add files to it.
Any challenging minds out there?

I have used the Wizard Extended ROM unlock program to unlock the ROM on my Prophet. I now have a copy of the Extended ROM on my SD Card. I'm not concerned about erasing the Extended ROM files, I just don't wan them installed, so I did a Hard Reset and just when it says that it will start installing the additional prorams in 3 seconds, I did a soft reset.
OK, now I have a Prophet without extended ROM. I can now install the stuff that I want.
Most of the cab files I've figured out, Does anyone know what the following extended ROM cabs do? This is from the latest Imate Jamin ROM.
Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_MP_Shortcut_MMS1_JAVA_VOICE_CV_051213.CAB
Default_PP_TSK.CAB
Default_PP_UAString.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_IconDll.sa.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_Patch_SD.sa.CAB
Thanks heaps,
Matterhorn

Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.77_range.CAB is the anti-virus app which used to play havoc in slowing down the KJAM. Maybe this version is better but I uninstalled it using Remove Programs. About the rest I am not sure. At least you don't have Skype, backgammon and the Operator Settings files so I expect you will gain a fair amount.

Still nothing? Guess I will go the way of Matterhorn when I need to do a hard reset. Several others have not installed the Extended ROM at all and have reported significant speedup in the JAMin.

That would be me. I haven't installed one thing off the extended rom and my speed is really pretty good. You can see a video review at the link below to compare the m600 and the jamin (with no extended rom). Keep in mind I don't use mms, skype, antivirus anyway....so no big deal to leave off the ext rom. I also use adobe and don't need the clearview .pdf. Hope the video helps :D

Thanks, Mike. I don't use the stuff either except MMS once in a while but can just as easily use email for that. I presume Voice Dial is in the Extended Rom but rather have MS VC anyway and things like Connection Manager, Messaging, etc., that I want are not in the Extended ROM so I should be fine.
Now to find time to do a hard reset and re-install my apps.

Everyone has diffrent issues, I was able to delete the files from there (verified by refreshing the dir, and I recieved no read only error) but I was unable to write files to it, which I thought was very strange, I am using APA_ext_rom_unlock.exe and it does NOT give me the success msg it acts like it hasnt even ran. I updated my ROM to teh test one that was floating auround 2.8.7 whatever, and I realized too late that aWizard has no way to reflash teh extended ROM so I am without all my Cingular apps and I have all the 2.8.7 Extended rom stuff with the 1.8 Cingular OS ROM which I reverted back to. Any suggestions how I can replace my extended ROM ?

Are we getting any hope/luck to unlock Ext ROM for JAMin/Prophet?

28th February 2006, 02:59 PM
I don't know how you guys are doing it. I have tried several times to delete items in my extended rom using total commander, at least 10 times and the result is the same. After the hard reset all that was deleted was re-installed after the reset.
I have contacted TC a while ago, and have not heard anything, maybe they are working on it.

Just curious....as I'm new to this ext rom stuff....but why don't you just "not install" the ext rom. Then use gsfinder to install whichever .cabs you want? If any? Just curious as I may be missing something. :roll:

No, I think the end result would be pretty much the same. For me I would like an Extended ROM for the JAMin that includes exacty what I want installed - no Backgammon, AntiVirus, Smart Dialing, Skype and a single Operator Settings file for TMO USA. Then when I hard reset I don't have to mess with anything else, just let it go. I had my KJAM setup that way and I would like the JAMin to be the same. I would also be as close to an OEM install as I can get (without the junk) so I don't have to worry about proper default settings not being there because of some file I didn't install or installed in the wrong order. Having said all this and thinking about it more I am sure you would get to the same point doing your procedure and then installing the required .cab files in the proper order.
Now I have a question:
Wonder what would happen if I did a hard reset, then did the soft reset to stop the Ext ROM install, installed the required .cab files in order, soft reset and then restored from a Sprite BU file. Wonder would I be restoring any files that could cause problems due to an imcomplete ROM install? I guess I will have to try that first since I do hate to re-install a bunch of apps and especially have to re-enter all the reg codes.

OK, I gave it a try using my current configuration which had Backgammon, Antivirus, SmartDialing and Skype deleted using the Remove Programs panel. I had previously made a copy of the Extended ROM on the SD card using Total Commander after removing the Read Only bit for each file.
Made full Sprite backup.
Hard reset using Clear Storage.
Interrupted customization with soft reset before 3 seconds timeout.
Installed the following files from the SD card using File Explorer in this order:
Default_Imate_PPC_SA_V5.5.03.cab
Default_MP_Shortcut_MMS1_JAVA_VOICE_CV_051213.CAB
Default_PP_TSK.CAB
Default_PP_UAString.CAB
Default_PP_Version.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_IconDll.sa.CAB
Default_PT_Signed_Patch_SD.sa.CAB
Soft reset.
Did full Sprite restore.
Everything seems to have come back fine and all works as before so far. However my memory usage did not change so this tells me that this procedure I just did is pretty much equivalent to doing the full Ext ROM install, Choosing Cancel for Operator Settings, and then removing the same programs with Remove Programs that I did not install here. The speed also did not change but I found it plenty fast enough before, probably because I had removed most of the "slow pokes".
At least I am happy to learn that if somehow I cause a hard reset in the future that I can get back to a recent Sprite bu with little effort.

Just in my opinion,
I need EXT ROM unlocked so that its space can be used for something else.
For me, after a hard reset I restore all apps (including the ones from EXT ROM) from my PC, anyway.
Or even better, if the EXT ROM can be remapped as free space :lol:
(a bit confusing terms here, as we can write something into ROM which
stands for Read Only Memory :D )

I don't think it is a question of "either or" here. I think that the Extended ROM is installing into what is essentially Storage Memory so that if you bypass the loading of the Ext ROM then that will give you the maximum amount of Storage Memory you will ever have. I don't think that a certain area(size) of Storage Memory is reserved for Ext ROM but rather taken as the Ext ROM is installed and then locked after installation. So if you unlock an "empty" region of Storage memory you will gain nothing. At least that is my understanding of how it works. It could be easily checked by someone who has bypassed the EXt ROM installation and using Total Commander to check the size of the "empty" Extended_ROM.
[EDIT by fmcgirt] The above is all crap!!! Of course one has to unlock the Extended ROM to delete the files and reclaim the space for something else. Bypassing the Ext ROM install does not save you any space except that you could gain by removing the stuff listed in Remove Programs after a full Ext ROM install. I guess I was just explaining how IMHO it ought to have been implemented. Getting too late here to be talking about this stuff!

I sure think so! Except those 7 files I installed probably implement MMS and Voice Dial and install other miscellaneous items which you haven't missed with your installation so I would just do what you are doing.

I have found most of the big programs in extended rom are already installed on the device, even if you did a soft reset before extended rom is installed. They are just not activated. MMS, Voice Dial, ClearView, Java, etc. are already in the windows directory and of course you can't delete them without an unlocker. I think HTC has included all of the big programs in the main ROM and left it up to the retail outlets to activate them as they see fit. Have a look at the size of these extended rom cab files, they are nothing. On my Imate Jam some of the extended rom cab files were huge, meaning that they actually installed programs, not just activating them.

I had to do another hard reset today because of problems with the latest beta of Opera browser. I got distracted after the hard reset and did not get to do a soft reset in time to prevent the Ext ROM installation so I let it go all the way through and wound up with 38036kb of Storage Memory. I went to Remove Programs and removed the only three items listed there, Skype, CA eTrust Antivirus, and Backgammon and gained about 6MB to 44046kb. This is very close to the value that I get when I don't let the Ext ROM install at all so I think that Matterhorn is right about the Ext ROM files doing mostly activations rather than full installations. My procedure from now on will be to just let everything complete after a hard reset and then remove the "bad" stuff later. This could cause a little fragmenting of Storage Memory but probably not worth worrying about and I get the benefit of not missing something getting installed that I may use like MMS and Voice Dial.
I did note that SmartDialing was not listed in Remove Programs at all so it probably gets activated through the Enable Smart Dialing Options in Phone.
I am really thankful to have Sprite BU for WM5 - another flawless restore after a hard reset!

One more thing that I figured out is that you can install some cabs from the Dopod 818pro. I installed the MMS/Java cab from the 818pro because the one from Imate includes activation of the Voice Dial program which I didn't want. As you said, you can always get rid of it later. It is nice to know that you can use cab files from other prophet devices though.

why wouldnt one just do a backup when you have it the way you like it. then when you have to restore you just restore from sd?
never mind i now know why. just recived my jamin today and see what the issue is. now question is when i load total comannder where do i look for extrom??

You need a special unlock program to delete files from the extended rom, there is one for the wizard, but it doesn't work on the Jamin. Maybe there is another one out there, but be careful. Anyway, look at the size of the extended rom files, you don't really gain that much ROM by deleting them, many of the extended rom programs are already installed in your windows directory, have a look, the extended rom file only activates them. The main saving is RAM when the programs are not running.

Here we go guys, this util. worked for my prophet (XDA Neo, german) It Unlocked ExtRom with read and WRITE access. Survives soft reset. You can view it (with resco explorer or total commander or whatever you want), delete content, and install programs into it. Etc. Oh yeah, this is not my program, I got it of the XDA ftp. Thanx to whoever made this program and pointed me out in the right directions when I still was messing with my Magician (this util doesn't work for Magician though)
All though, I have unlocked my ExtRom few days ago, removed all the content from it (wasn't much though) played a while with it and I don't see much performance improvement. It s just good for hiding Theft Notifiers in ExtRom and etc. After hard reset you still have to run this util again just to make the ExtRom visible.
Cheers and good luck!

Ok, here we go, just flashed (successfully!!! Once for difference THANK YOU MACHONAGOD!!!) My XDA Neo DE with Imate Jamin 2.13.9.23/ Radio 1_02.20.21 /protocol 4.1.13.9/ ExtRom 2.13.9.123 IPL 2.09 SPL 2.13.0000
And guess what? Same ext rom problem here. Not that I’m too upset about it, I am happy I can finally read and understand my phones language but on the other side, we want everything to be perfect, don’t we? Well, as with any microsoft product it never happens, though would be nice to get rid of all the unneeded junk from MY phone. It just frustrates me that companies advertise the product with certain parameters, 128 mb rom in this case and then they clog it up with junk and lock the memory! Not exactly 128 mb any more is there? Or the locked CID for instance? I can see the possible reasons for that (to protect from dummy users wrong update perhaps) but I think it should be up to the end user as to what OS and language they want to use it on their device!
Once again, I would like to thank Machinagod for his help, time and consideration for coming up and sharing with us all the needed tools to finish it what manufactures and retailers wouldn’t do to provide quality product!
And of course huge thanks to all the xda forum users for your input and help!
Thanks to you guys, I have successfully flashed my previous phone, XDA Mini in the past, have configured a lot of tweaks and made the device actually usable!

yep.. Unfortunately.. wait, but why does this has to do with boot loader? I have the same boot loader (but do I?) as before upgrade from german to WWE. and it worked while I had german. nothing came back after the resets. OS update doesn't change the bootloader does it? I didn't think it did.

I did the install without the Ext ROM so that I could fix my intermittant soft resets and I have lost the ability for the smart dialing which I do like. I looked in the phone options and the ability to activate this option is not there. Now my question is, is there a way to just install or activate that one feature using Resco explorer since it already sits in my windows folder unactivated? If so, what is the exact file name for that particular application?
EDIT:
Installed the unlocker file for ext ROM2 and then did a soft reset--I then went into resco or even windows file explorer and can install INDIVIDUAL applications. I got my smart dialing :D
I suppose I could even delete certain files if I wished but am not sure which ones so will leave it alone since I am not pressed for storage.
BTW--while installing individal applications I get the option of installing to main memory
ext ROM2 storage
or storage card

Buzz, you’re good! Man you’re good! Thanx for the hard work man! I really appreciate what you do. Can’t wait to try it! That means it’s fully writable now, if you can, delete it right? You know, there is a little issue though, when you make ExtRom visible, the camera doesn’t have an option to save to SD card. I imagine it’s probably just the matter of registry editing with right values. I tried that, but due to the fact that I’m just plain uneducated when it comes to registry, I couldn’t get it to work Will you be able to look in to this? Thank you once again!

I had similar problem. However, I don't think there is anything Buzz can do about that. I tried to tweak the registry to get the camera to see storage card. But due to the poorly designed camera software, it can only see the main memory and other storage device.
In the case where ext_rom is made visible, the "other" storage device, from camera's perspective, is default to ext_rom instead of storage card. Sorry, i think there will not be any solution until MS or ur system provider makes some change to the camera program.

Huh, I have installed it, have a liitle play ad got out. While showing Extrom2, it leads to shift my SD card to folder Storage Card2, so, all the software, installed on SD becomes unavailable... Is it a bug or a feature? :)

Hmmm, its strange. Worked for me flawlessly. My storage card name stayed the same. Camera doesn’t sees it though in settings. But besides that it worked! Deleted everything out of there. Nothing comeback after soft reset. Probably wouldn’t return after hard reset either :) And I guess I can save pictures and videos taken with camera into Ext Rom storage as well. Just got to remember to move it every time. Kind of inconvenient, but I’m happy I can get rid of all the junk and gain 10 mb of extra space!

Yes, you can do that but you will have to unhide it first. After that when you install program, there will be another option for you to install into.

Hi guys,
I've installed the Buzz Prophet unlocker....
It does makes the Ext ROM visible as Extended_ROM2 but changes are still loss after a soft-reset.

I did a test where I create a folder "test" in the ext rom and after a soft-reset its gone....
Please advise...
ROM Version: 2.15.13.27 WWE
Ext ROM Version: 2.15.13.121
How do I check the BootLoader version?
Really want to get this done... so that I can modify my own config.txt to be able to auto install own programs & apply registry hacks after a soft-reset.
Hope to get a solution soon... :)
Thanks....

I'm confused :? ...isn't this unlocker suppose to allow us to read, write and modify the contents in the ext rom? And to do all these.... dun we need to be least be abe to see the ext rom?
From the historic thread......it seems that u may have a solution that will make these changes to the ext rom persistent even after a soft reset. Did I understand correctly?? :roll:

Hi,
I was running the first unlocker "unlock ext rom" (don't have the link at this time) on my XDA Neo, which made the ext rom visable and writeable.
After ROM upgrade it was still visible but no longer writeable. So I installed buzz program on top.
Now my Ext Rom is visible and writeable again. It's named Extended_ROM2. Created a directory "test" with several files in it and it survives soft resets without problems.
Imho it has something to do with renaming the Ext Rom. The first unlocker makes it visible as Extended_ROM. And there are some autorun entries in the registry pointing to Extended_ROM. There is also a bootcounter.
After running buzz program Extended_ROM is renamed Extended_ROM2 and therefore it is not touched by the registry or ROM entries trying to cleanup the extended Rom.

Hi,
To those who are confused about Buzz' Prophet Ext ROM Unlocker,
Buzz clearly states that it is a test version and it makes your Ext ROM writable, NOT visible.
He will finish the complete program later.
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,108/func,view/id,17940/catid,45/limit,15/limitstart,0/
To Dopod ROM (Ver: 2.15.13.27 WWE) users,
This unlocker works perfectly.
All you need to do after running Buzz' Prophet Ext ROM unlocker is to
make your unlocked Ext ROM visible by changing a few registry keys.
Attached here is a CAB file to change those registry keys for your convenience.
Steps:
1) Run Buzz' Prophet Ext ROM unlocker
2) Run the attached CAB file
3) Soft-reset your device
After that, there will be a folder (Ext ROM) named "Storage" of 10 mb which is
visible and writable to the system. Its content will survive a soft-reset or even a hard-reset.
An issue I find is that some applications will see this new Storage as the default, instead of Storage Card. But this has nothing to do with Buzz' unlocker. There may be some registry fix to this as well, but I have no idea:)
All credits are to Buzz who did the real magic work. The CAB file here just simply changes a few registry keys.
Thank you Buzz.
Anox.

Works for me (spv M600 rom FR)
Excepts that camera stores only to main memory or new Storage (ext rom) and that a "storage card" folder is created when i soft reset the device. My SD card is named "Storage Card2". I have to delete the new folder, remove and insert again my SDcard so it's name becomes "Storage Card". Maybe some Reg tweaks to get rid of these little troubles?

I already did put the ext_rom visible after tweaking some registry keys, but what happens is that storage card path is rename to storage_card2 and goes to last position after ext_rom. And for ex, on the camera the ext_rom substitute the storage card and all apps shortcuts on the start menu installed on the storage card don't run because the storage card path has been renamed. Even after I made ext_rom invisable, the storage card remain with the same name path. I tried to find the registry keys to solve this 2 problems but didn't find anything. And therefore I had to made a restore of the registry.
I only sugest make visible the ext_rom, if one don't care about the saving path of the camera and still have not installed anything on the storage card.

I've solved the "Storage card2" problem. You have to make sure that none of your apps (PocketIE, Mails, ...) stores temp file & attachements to your SDcard. Change all options to store to main memory or extended rom only. Thus your SDcard will be named "Storage Card" at boot time. The "camera" problem still remains ... :cry:

I have the same problem but I am not too keen on your solution - anyone found a better way?
After unlocking the Extended Rom (called Extended_ROM2 for some reason) Storage Card was called Storage Card2. A new "Storage Card" was created and it contained only email attachments. This implies that the name of this folder is dynamic - doesn't it? That can't be right - can it??
What are the implications of this? Will program/files installers get confused by the name? Some of my apps (eg Fugawi and PrymeNav) wont install data files - says there's no room when there is. Is that bad coding or installer confusion??
Thanks

Thanks fdp24! I know how to do that.
You are right sibere, the option will be "main memory" & "storage" (ExtROM) - cannot see "storage card" -> cannot select it!
I think we just should unlock & unhide the ExtROM, put all the stuff we need for a reset & favourite programs in to ExtROM, then hide it back.

I changed the SaveFolder string to \Storage Card\Mijn Documenten\Mijn afbeeldingen (dutch for \My docs\my pics). When I used a file explorer, the photo's were saved at \Storage Card\My Documents\Mijn Documenten\Mijn afbeeldingen. HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Image
Saveto=0
SaveFolder change String to ..\Storage Card\Folder you want

First: Sorry for my bad english!!!
Thanks, that works very good.
I have it Change to
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Image
Saveto=0
SaveFolder "..\Speicherkarte\Eigene Bilder"
And For Video
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Video
Saveto=0
SaveFolder "..\Speicherkarte\Eigene Videos".
(Speicherkarte = Storage Card)
And it works, but when i forget to put the Storage Card in my Device and i take a photo it makes a new folder with the name: Speicherkarte in my Device Storage. When i put than the Storage Card in my Device is rename the Storage Card to: Speicherkarte2.
I need to delete the folder Speicherkarte from Device before i put the Storage Card in my Device, than it don´t rename the Storage Card in Speicherkarte2.
The Value in Saveto=0 is:
"0" = Is for Device Storage &
"1" = Is for second Storage (Extenden Rom, Storage Card).
You can see this when du change the Folder under the Camera Settings, and after this you see in the Registry.
When you have the Value "0" and the SaveFolder is beginning with "..\Speicherkarte....." it Jumps (because the "..\" ) from My Documents to Main Storage of Device, and than it takes the photo/video under Speicherkarte......
When you have the Value "1" and the SaveFolder is beginning with "..\..\Speicherkarte\....." it Jumps (because the "..\..\" ) from My Documents to Second Storage, from Second Storage to Main Storage of Device, and than it takes the photo/video under Speicherkarte......

Here is the solution;
1. If you have prophet ROM2.15.13.27 -G4 Or you have LsvW rom 2.3.0 G3 n G4 and UP even wizard
To Unhide Ext-ROM --- (this is already known by most- but include for completeness)
Need following registry changes:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\StorageManager \AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1
"Bootphase"=dword:2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\StorageManager \Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1
"MountHidden"=dword:0
To Unlock the EXT-ROM-----(this is tne new one)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Drivers\Builtin\TRUEFFS1
[on the some rom ver]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Drivers\Builtin\TRUEFFS _DOC1
"SoftwareWriteProtect" =Dword:0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Drivers\Builtin\TRUEFFS1
[on the some rom ver]
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Drivers\Builtin\TRUEFFS _DOC1
"AutoDPDMode"=Dword:0
Then Softreset.
Now should be able to write and install to Ext-ROM/Storage
2. Or If you have prophet ROM2.15.13.27 -G3 and Other use this attachment file Unlock ExtRom
first extract the files to your prophet --> softreset your prophet--> run file extunlock.exe -->run file UnlockExtRom.cab --> softreset your prophet
Now should be able to write and install to Ext-ROM/Storage
PS:
1. if you want write file to extended_rom change the file(s) properties to read only this is to prevent the files disappear after hard reset.
2. if you just want to see and backup your extended rom you just need total commander: type: Extended_ROM on the addres path

First: Sorry for my bad english!!!
Thanks, that works very good.
<snip>
I hope you can understand this beacause my very very bad englisch (I don´t learned english, only from internet :-D)
Thanks dodo :)
Putting your post, and others in this thread together, I have edited the content into correct English (please take no offence - I am impressed that you are self-taught :) ) for the future reference of others:
For Pictures:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Image
Saveto=0
SaveFolder "..\Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures"
And For Video:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Video
Saveto=0
SaveFolder "..\Storage Card\My Documents\My Videos".
This will place any pictures onto the Storage Card in \My Documents\My Pictures. Likewise, video is saved onto the Storage Card in \My Documents\My Videos
Warning: If the Storage Card is removed from the Device and a photo (or video) is taken, it makes a new folder with the name: Storage Card in Device Storage (Main Memory).
When the Storage Card is put back in the Device, it is renamed from Storage Card to: Storage Card2.
The fix for this is to delete the folder "Storage Card" from the Device before inserting the Storage Card into the Device, then it doesn´t rename the Storage Card to Storage Card2.
The Value in Saveto=0 means:
"0" = Is for Device Storage &
"1" = Is for second Storage (Extenden Rom, Storage Card).
This can be witnessed when changing the Folder under the Camera Settings - the change is replicated in the Registry.
When you have the Value "0" and the SaveFolder begins with "..\Storage Card....." it changes directory (because of the "..\" ) from My Documents to Main Storage of Device, and than it takes the photo/video under Storage Card......
When you have the Value "1" and the SaveFolder begins with "..\..\Storage Card\....." it changes directory (because of the "..\..\" ) from My Documents to Second Storage, from Second Storage to Main Storage of Device, and than it takes the photo/video under Storage Card......
HTH,
Huey.
