Does anyone know how I can access the Virgin Mobile Bites wap service on my MDA Compact/Imate JAM?

If I navigate to http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap or even http://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/wap/sso/bites I do not get the WAP style web pages but the plain web pages you get if accessing from a normal PC

It cannot be a device issue as if I access the BBC site as http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile I get the WAP style BACK and OPTIONS buttons correctly as opposed to going to http://www.bbc.co.uk directly

I have tried getting help from Virgin Mobile themselves and just hit a clueless wall each time, surely other people are using Imate JAMs on their network where accessing Bites over GPRS will cost just a 30p flat rate as opposed to accessing other websites over GPRS

Yes I know it's an ancient thread, but hopefully this will help someone else in a similar situation.

To begin with you will need to set up a GPRS modem connection.

in Settings/Connections you must add a 'new modem connection', I named mine 'Virgin Mobile', just for convenience, in 'select a modem' choose 'Cellular Line (GPRS). click 'Next'

then in 'Access Point Name' type 'goto.virginmedia.uk'. click 'Next'

'User name' is 'user'. click 'Finish'.

That sets up a GPRS connection for Virgin Mobile.

Now disconnect any other wireless data connection in Wireless Manager, and connect to your Virgin Mobile connection on GPRS.

Open your web browser and navigate to http://www.virgin.com/mobile/wap

That's it, or at least that works for me on an HTC Alpine using Opera 8.65.

On a similar subject, anyone know how to change the Operator string when using the phone? I know Virgin Mobile uses the T-Mobile network, but I'd like to change it....

That seems to be handset dependent, my Trinity correctly reported Virgon whereas my Alpine reported T-Mobile, it also affects ordinary non Virgin phones as well.

Any way the solution can be found here, Personaliser (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359563)
