There is a free instant messenger app that comes with all WM5 phones. SDA, etc. My Qtek 9100 only has the MSN messanger app. I am looking for a free aol im app. Also I use Mac.....so how do i get it to my phone. It seems you can only do it from a PC. There has to be a way around this. Does anyone know a download place for the aol im for WM5? Has anyone figured this one out....I know you can buy one, which is lame.....when it is free on most WM5 phones. Please someone out there......give the answers.....lol.

i dont have my wizard already, but i found in the internet this free messenger:
http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/imov.htm

they say it is for WM 5.0

Agile says the WM 5.0 comes soon. (But i guess the 2002 Beta works too)

Ahem...hello Alex. The T-Mobile messenger app is called OZ. It's actually pretty cool, but it only integrates AIM, ICQ, and Yahoo. Here is the Cab file.

Hey Yung. Thanx for answering his question and not giving him a whole bunch of alternitives. I was looking for this to, and every time I asked soemone would post; "use this, use that, I recommend this..." You get the idea. Anyways, thanks man.

I tried out the OZ program and it seemed to work just fine. What I don't like is that it appears to use SMS for your IM's instead of your data connection. I talked with two people at TMO Customer service, but they just kept trying to tell me about regular texting. But on the TMO site, it looks like all instant message programs that come on their phones use SMS.

That is probably true since th eOX program dosent seam to work on my cingular 8125. It installs and all but it never can connect.

OZ does appear to use text messaging, since T-Mobile just charged me for 45 text messages after I installed and started using it.

The T-Mobile extended ROM also included the T-Mobile Comm Manager. It has the phone on/off setting. See attached Cab...

Your list of PDA/Phones is longer than any of your posts. Cool 8)

I may try that comm manager, but I am going to wait till I will have the time to do a hard reset, just in case.

I installed the OZ messenger on my cingular 8125 and it worked fine. I also hope that it doesnt use SMS as I've been using it like mad and don't want to get charged... The GPRS/Edge icon changes to connected when I connect using OZ messenger, so i'm hopeful that it doesn't use SMS.

Wow. Are you on Cingular network? Please let me know what you find out about how it works, SMS or Direct.

I installed the cab. Yet when I try to sign on, I get the sms yet it doesn't successfully work. Newbie apologies if I'm not doing something obvious.

So... I couldn't get it to connect. I uninstalled, but there is a ghost icon left in programs. How can I get rid of the shortcut?

It needs to be installed to the phone, not the card. ONce I reinstalled, it worked fine.

I tried loading OZ on my Qtek 9100 with cingular and it will not connect. When I look in the registry under HKCU\OZ Communications\Configuration\1
Data: Network
Value: http://wirelessvillage.t-mobile.com

It appears to point to T-Mobile which is not my carrier and may be why I can't connect.

Has anyone been able to get OZ IM to work with Cingular? If so, what is this registrry value in your registry?

Thanks.

Date: MediaNet or ISP
Value: try wireless.cingular.com
just guessing

wireless village is a protocol of itself made by OMA (open mobile alliance) specially for mobile phones... as far as I know it uses tranparently the combination of GPRS and SMS to keep you connected.

here is a free server which supposadly should work with any network over GPRS
http://www.yamigo.com/

changing the server address in registry might enable the tmobile client to connect to this server

Settings don't work for me either. Doesn't the Cingualr 8125 already come with an SMS based AOL IM client like T-Mobile? I tried the TCP/IP based applications but staying connected is a little flakey.

From the 8125's webpage on cingular

"....
Supports WiFi, IrDA, S/MIME, Mini-USB and Mini-SD
Multimedia messaging - send, pictures, text or sound
Instant messaging using AOL®, Yahoo!® and ICQ®
Quad-band international phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
Built-in 3-D Surround Speakers with external stereo jack
Active SyncTM - Remotely check your inbox, calendar, contacts and tasks"

I called support and they said that it only supports MSN, there's no program that does aol, yahoo or icq that they supply, but they MAY have one in the future. Can they do that? Isnt that false advertising?

fyi agile messenger stores your passwords in cleartext in the registry. not so good if you happen to lose your phone.

well the agile messenger doesnt work so well on the 8125 or at least the one i have, like if you slide the keyboard out it all gets offset on the screen its such a pain...been trying to play around to get the Tmo version, flashed my 8125 to the O2 ROM (though i hafta admit i like how the O2 ROM looks) and the Tmo UK ones just to try (No Luck), anybody have a copy of the TMO US version, I didnt see it on the FTP...

I've been using the free AIM client from the AOL UK (http://www.aol.co.uk/aim/wince/index.html) website on my Qtek 9100. However, it's very buggy on WM5--barely functional really. I am able to sign on despite the broken UI and send/receive messages over the data connection.

guttrhead, as for the false advertising... I think they can wiggle out of it with the simple fact that there are application out there that can be add to allow this functionality. Im no expert on LAW, but it seams like a playable lye (pun intended)

If thats the case, then I got a computer for sale that runs longhorn and you can do 3D modeling with ProEngineer, video edit with Pinnacle studio, audio edit with pro tools, and a life time subscription to norton antivirus. Don't be mad when you get it and the harddrive is empty though.

I'm building an AIM client myself, actually. It supports screen rotation and square screens and WM5 (I'm testing on my Wizard).

I'm really busy with school right now, but I will let you guys know when I get something worth beta testing. THe only thing that's good out there right now is agile messenger, and even that's buggy.

For those of you anywhere other than the U.S., you're lucky. You get to use MSN (because that's what everyone else uses). Here in the U.S., most people use AIM. :(

Do you plan to make a SMS AOL client? I am not happy with the TCPIP solutions out there because the GPRS/EDGE connection is not 100% reliable and the client constantly loses connection.

I do not plan on doing SMS right now. It's much more expensive (for me anyways).

I plan to build the app to handle poor quality connections.

It would be pretty stellar if your app could handle GPRS, WiFi & maybe even SMS if @ all possible :-) just my 2cents. Thanks for using your skills to better the community. I can't wait to try it.
