As an one month owner of Htc Universal, i searched the internet a lot and found lots of information. Also this great forum is really helpfull for me to do the rom updates or hacks provided by the experienced members... But i am thinking to open a topic to share what i found with all description... So i want to upload all the cabs and hacks i found, in an ordinary way... Probably most of the hacks which i uploaded here may be given a time ago in these forum or somewhere else... So this topic is aimed to be a collection pool of all the hacks for newbies like me and i will try to update the topic frequently... Any help to me is really great and for any mistake of mine, please forgive me...

HARD RESET:

CHANGE BACKLIGHT KEY COMMAND:

With this hack, you can change the command of back light button to any program other than backlight function...

CLEARTYPE ON FOR PORTRAIT AND LANDSCAPE MODES:

With this hack, you can activate clear type both for portrait and landscape modes...

ACTIVATE PHONE SKIN WITH 3D BUTTONS:

With this hack, you can activate phone skin with 3d buttons in the expense of some memory and speed..

BLUETOOTH VOICE DIAL COMMAND OFF:

With this hack, you can deactivate the launching of voice command program and get opportunity to transfer the playing music directly to bluetooth headset by pressing the voice call button on the bluetooth headset (must be supported by bluetooth headset)...

ENHANCED FILE DIALOG:

With this Hack, you can enhance the builtin file dialog applet to browse whole the phone easily in the dalog window.just copy all the files in the archive to windows dir and soft reset.After run the file dialog applet from control panel and check the option Exchange standart File Dialog.

SOFT KEY APPLET:

With this hack, you can change the soft key commands.Just copy the file in the archive to windows dir and soft reset.After run the applet from control panel...

With this hack, you can set the level of bass and treble easily via applet in the control panel. Especially you can feel the basss and treble changes by headset... ( Removed! Reported to be not working with Htc Universal )

UNLOCK EXTENDED ROM:

With this hack, you can get extra 10 mb free space in the new mounted storage area called ExtendedROM...Simply after installing cab, just run the ExtROMUNLOCKER from start menu - programs and soft reset.After you can add or delete any file in this new storage space or organize it with the cabs which you want to automatically be installed after hard reset...

oh man!!! I tried the Vibrating Keypad function, was cool,,,, but I wanted to revert back and boom; it messed up completely,,, i cant even dial fast now; your soundkeypad file seems to be problematic...

any solutions?!!??!?!?

hmm ok... fixed it by goind through the registry and deleting the SOUND as string and creating new SOUND as dword... that worked... :roll: oh man, what a hassle.

on the other hand::: your tweaks seem to be very interesting :wink: good work, keep it up!

After your experience i have rechecked the hacks for phone keys and there is no problem in my device... Let me advise you;first install this hacks and then a soft reset should be a good way...

You should put them in the memory cord of your phone, then click them from there.

The .CAB files should be installed FROM THE PHONE.

Or some reason when I was downloading the files they were changing to .php not .cab. So with a quick change of name all working fine.

After applying pocket ie hacks there will be no new menu.I meant that if you want to go back,you can change some of the tweaks within pocket ie.For example you can change the zoom setting to larger or make fit to desktop from the menu of pocket ie.But other tweaks are directly written to registry ( cleartype, pocket ie as msie6.0, ... )

Install GS player, with this you can all kinds of effects, 3d/ bass etc,

i had it on my BA device, just got exec today, and installed this, works well.

The universal have the same audio chip as Hp Ipaq hx4700 (wich means it have 5 band graphic equalizer !!!!! , better than bass & trebble). The application from hx4700 ( ipaqaudio ) work fine on Universal but it reset to default after each song.

Thanks for a nice post, but i got a small prob when i use the HIDE/SHOW WIRELESSICON HACK.
When i Show the Icon and Launch the WirelessMgr Program by Fn+Right Arrow key, everythings is OK, that mean the phone, bluetooth, or wi-fi icon become green if i turn it on and become gray if i turn it off.
But when i use the hack to hide the WirelessIcon, every thing always be gray even I turn it on or off!
Somebody has suggession???

I tried this and posted the registry hacks on WIKI.

I have the same problem from the registry hack which is to change the "keep" setting from 1 to 0.

I also found that not only does the screen stay grey, but they dont actually work anymore.

I turned the "keep" back to 1 as I need the screen to operate, and also show the status by turning green

Dear mastelos,

This hack is written directly to registry so you cant find a program after installation, but be sure that it does the job very well... After installation, you can manually connect to gprs or msn messenger can connect automatically after tap sign in, but if you disconnect from gprs, system will not reconnect again automatically like before...

In total commander, type in "Extension ROM". You will be shown a list of the files in it. You can either delete or copy them from there. You can also try the sticky post above for more instructions on it.

I installed the extrom unlocker cab but cannot see the files anywhere.

Where should I see them. (I have tried in File Explorer and Total Commander).

I just downloaded this cab (3/10/2006) and as of now it is defective! It is setting when installed DriverPath to "Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS_G31" I believe this is incorrect, and must be changed to "Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS1" under the key;
HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\T RUEFFS_DOC1

If your Extended ROM is visible under File Explorer, all you need to do is install this CAB file again and soft reset your Extended ROM will disappear, until you change the Driver path value.


If your Extended ROM is not visible please check this value!

Good news! This now works in the new rom. When the icon is hidden, the Fn+-> key works and the wireless manager functions per normal. I can now gain more display space on the Jasjar. :)

There is a sensor which looks like a little hole. It's right above the green answer key of the keybaord. If it is bright, it will not turn on. If you want, cover the hole with a finger and then type a key and it will light up-.

Nope but there is a way to EXTEND the period it stays on to more than 10 seconds. If your interested, use the search button. I'm sure it isn't hard to find

the sensor can be completely disabled. Settings > Personal tab > Buttons > Backlight tab and uncheck the <Enable keyboard backlight auto sensor> box.

Hi alll

I have installed and got the true VGQ mode / hack from the start of this thread working on my xda exec (thanks!) but I didn't make a copy of the vgasystemfiles in my windows diretory which I overwrote so going back to normal mode via ozgva is making the following applications run in vga mode Backlight, Camera, MicrophoneAGC, Power, WLanMgr and WModem :-(

Can anyone upload the orginals from their windows folder and is this all I need to get the exec back to normal?

i got a Wizard ! so compatible to G.

i unlock G wifi, my speed is reported as 54Mb but no transfer rate boost between 54 and 28 :(

using G only or not on my rooter allow me to get connected a right speed, but WM5 does not increase speed !!! even using Resco ftp to up/dl files !

1- Is there a way to truelly use G speed ?

2-i have used camera patch, it is more fluid, but i can t choose high resolution now (video) :( , high resolution is not in list anymore !!!

Doesn't work at all... My QTEK 9000 cannot connect to my USRobotics Access Point when it's set to G-only mode. I don't expect the speeds but if it can't connect on G-only mode than I do have to declare the hack useless.

Uhm. There's a hack to put the date and time on the title bar.

This is great. I've been looking for this since the ROM upgrade.

However. It overlays it on the battery ion in the title bar (that I don't want ANYWAY!)

I installed the extrom unlocker cab but cannot see the files anywhere.

Where should I see them. (I have tried in File Explorer and Total Commander).

I just downloaded this cab (3/10/2006) and as of now it is defective! It is setting when installed DriverPath to "Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS_G31" I believe this is incorrect, and must be changed to "Drivers\BuiltIn\TrueFFS1" under the key;
HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\T RUEFFS_DOC1

If your Extended ROM is visible under File Explorer, all you need to do is install this CAB file again and soft reset your Extended ROM will disappear, until you change the Driver path value.


If your Extended ROM is not visible please check this value!

The battery hack removes the icon from the sytem tray (located at bottom right) not the title tray (top right). There is currently no way to remove the battery icon from the title tray according to MS, it's a registry setting.

I applied the true VGA hack and got it working but now I want to go back to default.

1. How do I deactivate the VGA mode? Can not find it in the hack tool.

2. Yes, I know, I'm an s hole: forgot to backup the files I replaced.

The .CAB files should be installed FROM THE PHONE.

I think under Start>Settings>Alarm>Notifications there is an option of what type of notification you would like to use to notify you of an incoming SMS, Text, MMS, etc...

I have an Orange SPV M600 (HTC Prophet)

The orange cabs have installed a battery Icon to the title bar, and I cannot for the life of me find a way of getting rid of it, I have tried the Hide battery hack, but this has not worked, obviously this is an addition by orange rather than a default HTC thing. Can anyone please help me? I would rather have the time there but I can't until I get rid of this darn thing.

Hi,
I tried the rom unlock utility, couldn't decide what to do with it so just deleted it.Did a hart reset and all hell broke loose.The exec won't boot completely,it would stop booting and give an error message-can't find extromunlock file.
It would start after a soft reset.
but this has started a strange battery problem,the device dies abruptly at 25% battery without any warning and won't start unless plunged in.
I flashed it with a different rom but the battery problem is still there.And I am sure it is ROM related.
Any expert there reading this,please help.And please don't suggest to change the battery for it is in good condition .

I don't mind the SMS so much, but I HAVE 100%, not doubt in my mind, turned OFF the notifications for new email, and no matter what I still get messages ALL DAY LONG telling me how much email I haven't read.
I heard somewhere this was a bug in WM5, however I'm running the new WM6 ROM (kinda nice, it's working with everything I've loaded) and it STILL does it.
I have also searched high and low for a reg hack that could potientially aleve my pain of annoyance. Anyone have any ideas?

I tried the phone Keys VIBRATE on my TREO 750 (CINGULAR) and it does nothing. I reset the phone after I installed and it still does nothing.

Does anyone know if it works with the 750?

I was trying the hack replacing the phone keys' DTMF sound with Vibration.

Reverting from Vibration to DTMF I experienced the same problem described by matt_x... dialing is very slooow now, and the keys produce erratic short sounds.

Nothing helps, including the change of SOUNDs from String to DWORD and Soft Resets after the hack is installed...

I am very unhappy with this.

Is there any way to go back to the original behaviour of the phone keys without having to Hard Reset the device?

Hi...will try your vibrationkeys in some minutes, but I looked for a hack to erase the whole softkey bar... I need the space much more for other things than that! I turned off the taskbar already, but that is not enough... I searched for a while now, couldn't find any solution, perhaps anybody knows something...

I was trawling through the posts today looking for any info on whether i could use my gps and a bluetooth headset at the same time, and i found somebody mentioning an AUDIO REDIRECTION HACK which enables you to receive your gps directions through your headset, but he couldn't remember where it was. Hi Andrew,

You'll need to unzip the zip files first. If the files are .cab files you just tap them on ur device and it will install the app onto ur device.

something I tell you the mic. pick up my voice ( I put the phone out of the car ) but no sound comes out of the car speaker at all !!!!

I'm sorry if the question is repeated. Y have a problem with teh BTof. When y press the answer buttom of my bluetooth headset the auido goes to it, but it only stands on it few seconds (30 or 20 sec). Whats the problem? How can I solve it?
