I thought I saw some line in the exe that stated that: GXBeginDraw, GXEndDraw etc.

Doesn't he just makes a connection from the camera to the display and uses hardware function to set the image to a resolution or effect and teases us with 640*480 video?

Could be, I haven't looked into this app yet, no time, but AFAIK there was no HTC published API for the camera. That doesn't mean it can't be used by 3rd parties of course. And on WM5 it's built into the OS as well.

I've seen the CowBurn code before, but it's not an HTC or Microsoft API, so it's not really an "official" API. Good stuff though, and very useful.

Just had a proper look through the CowBurn code. As far as I can see, this isn't an interface to the camera, but merely a wrapper around the built in camera.exe right?
That's not as crufty as hacking into the HTC dlls/drivers themselves...

I guess they will release it when they are happy with it. I would wait an extra couple of weeks for s/w that works rather than getting something early that's buggy.

This comcoder software is not that important...but its next to win 5.0 and Bluetooth...so its normal we the people who use magician's camera a bit more then general user will be interested to use this....even a buggy one...

This camera software has potential to be much more useful than the original app.
Navigation through OSD menu with the D-Pad with the camera image in the background is great.

Can't find a way to switch it to portrait yet though, and the video capture on the trial hasn't worked for me yet, just creates dodgy wav files!

Looks like it's definately based on the cowburn API from the limitations outlined in the linked page above.

Nice idea, useless at the moment, but hopefully will replace the app before I'm due for an upgrade to a WM5 device!

Photo's seems to work fine, altough the viewfinder is quite slow in 1.3mp setting, probably has to do with the WYSIWYG interface (all 1.3mp are presented). Maybe it's better for the viewfinder to stick with 640*480, and output 1280*960??

Video doesnt zeem to work, like joehood, WAV files over here to! :(

Don't use internal Album application.
Internal Album incorrectly support Motion Jpeg AVI format.

Windows Media Player dont't support Motion Jpeg Format at all!

Use other player, like TCPMP!

the card save problem is frequent... also some (all) my italian friends cannot save anything in mmc/sd (maybe a wrong pathname?..... in the registry there is any value fot that)

How do you setup adjustment settings? like old magician camera?

Saves also correct to my sd in the, pre-existing, \Storage card\my documents\my videos folder.

Adjustments via screen-tap & then the adjust via the OSD.

Only negative thing I noticed is that sometimes sound & video are out of sync :-(

Don't see much difference from outside. Lip-sync seems a bit improved in 1280*960 with high quality. So under the hood you might have changed a lot.

Keep it up, this is very impressive & promising software.

I didn't notice any improvement with this software.. infact.. it's way much slower than the normal camera app.
if i set it to 320X240 I get max 7 FPS!!!! they say 15!!!
Am I doing something wrong here???

Intsall any Motion JPEG (mjpg) Codec (ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder for example), and use any player (Windows Media Player for example).

Another way - use TCPMP for Winodows XP !

Yes, mine also, only the brightness is per situation adjustable. I must say that the LOCK BRIGHTNESS is a great option! Only the frame update of the viewer gets very low when using it with NIGHT mode (why?). Also, after one picture with that option, it is switched off after the recording of the picture! Is this normal?

PHM gives you an extra 3 frames on the video, I can record 640*480 around 12 frames/sec to SD (fastest compression), some stutter now and then.

BTW a kind of Album option would be nice, so you can see the results quickly back again, and what about a software lens-stabelisor? :wink: :D

I'm hoping the CoolCamera developers are seeing this....

I'm running PocketHackMaster and running my system at

Bus 208, Ram 52, LCD 104 for a CPU speed of 520Mhz,

when I run CoolCamera 1.05 it locks up the device on startup, (I think when the Camera tries to superbright the screen). What is strange is that v1.03 did not crash at this speed. Even the stock camera software can handle the 520 speed, but dies when you try to run...

Bus 234, Ram 59, LCD 59 at CPU speed 585, (that is what I'm running all the other apps at...)

Any ideas? I understand you probably don't support overclocked systems, I'm not saying you should, I'm just wondering if maybe you can isolate why 1.03 and 1.05 are acting differently?

Do you know what would make your program really unique? If the PDA is recognized as the webcam itself - like CardExport (http://www.softick.com/cardexport2/) does with the SD slot.

how to set up that webcam?? :? And video acctually s**** because in higest resolution it manages to save one frame in 5 secs!!!! And night mode works only one time, when starting it agai, I have to turn off and then turn it on again...hmmm...

The webcam is only avaliable for the WinDOS installer (NOT the CAB one). The WinDOS installer acts as the bridge.
The latest version of Coolcamera outputs video for 25 seconds in trial mode.
