I'm confused. Can I put the new imate rom onto my xda exec on o2 ? if I can do I have to change anything to get all the o2 connection stuff working.

will o2 release this upgrade anyway ? don't want to put the imate one on to then put the o2 one on.

Chances are all providers will release this ROM sooner or later. I have an O2 exec and applied the imate update and it seems well worth it (especially speed wise). There is an O2 cab in the ext ROm which will insert the MMS settings for you. Otherwise, if in the UK and on contract, you can use the following info:

my isp connection - used for email/web browsing

GPRS
mobile.o2.co.uk
cellular 3g
mobile.o2.co.uk
o2web/password
dns 193.113.200.200/201

my work connection - used to send mms txts

WAP
wap.o2.co.uk
cellular 3g
wap.o2.co.uk
o2wap/password
193.113.200.195

MMS

Start > Messaging > Menu > MMS Configuration
In the Preferences tab tick Retrieve Messages Immediately
Tick Download on home network only
Tick Save sent messages
Tap the Servers tab
Tap O2UK
Server Name: O2UK
Gateway: 193.113.200.195
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Set the 'Connect Via' drop down box to My Work Network
Sending Size Limitations: 100K
WAP Version: 1.2 - watch out for this, the default is 2.0
Tap OK twice to exit

So bear with me.

Im on 02 contract.

I could install new rom. Openup the extended rom. Delete all the files I dont want (leaving the o2 ones).

Hard reset again (I have only done this about 100 times since last week).

I would then have the new rom with only the o2 stuff in extended rom.

Can the extended rom be used for anything else ??

What I did was apply the new rom, then hard reset and allowed the new imate rom to run its customisaton. That prompts you to select your phone company and installs the default cabs you will need. It also installs skype and nackgammon but you can remove these afterwards via add/remove progs in settings.

Search the topics here for how to unlock the ext rom, then you can back it up to your pc and then delete it. I personally install apps such as pocket weather and tomtom to the ext rom.

Hope this helps...

Even better...

I applied the new ROM, reset afterwards and then before it was able to apply the customisations I soft reset. This bypasses installing anything from the ext_rom and gives you a blank canvas. I then unlocked and unhid the ext_rom (there are tools in this forum for that), reset and removed ALL files in that partition.

I've since reinstalled only the ones I need from the files that WERE in ext_rom and have installed various apps such as Resco File Explorer, TCPMP etc into ext_rom. You cannot get back the memory from deleting the files, so it's good enough to use as a little bit of app space instead.

Cheers
Ant

Props to the app owners...

Open the unlock first and run it. It will show "SUCCESS" twice, OK through and soft reset. Then run the unhide - which I think then requires another soft reset. Once back in, go to any file explorer program (even via your PC once connected) and you should see Extended_Rom as a folder on the root.

nice one for the tools.

I know I'm a dimwit but what files should I be leaving in the extended rom. I want to be able to use mms and txt and video calling. I'm on 02 so am guessing all the o2 ones for contract?

also if I want for example to put pocket weather into this to run from extended rom do I just put the cab file into the extended rom and away It goes or do I need to do something else.

thanks for your help

I have removed everything, but reinstalled (by putting them on my storage card and running them - you can choose to install to a) device b) extended_rom or c) storage card....I chose a) Device for these but you can put install them to ext_rom:

Default_MP_Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
Default_MP_Shortcut-MMS1-JAVA5XX-VOICE-CV-051215.CAB
Default_MP_UAProfile_MMSAutoDisconnect_Universal(A KU2.0)_060106.CAB
Default_P_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
Default_P_Version_UAProf_Removes.CAB

These ones I can't remember where I got them from (though I think it was from the latest O2 extended_rom). I'll attach these:

Signed_SSD_BTUR_Patch_For_BT_Cannot_Initial.sa.CAB Signed_UNI_PictureEnhancement_reg.sa.CAB
UK_O2_Contract.CAB
02_Exec_Connections_Only.CAB
CAB-Customization-O2UK-Universal.CAB
CAB-Shortcut-O2UK-22Aug05.CAB

With all the above on, I can use MMS (though you'll need to follow the above settings earlier in this post) and video calling is OK too.

If you want to put other apps on and install them to the rom area, you can follow the usual steps, only when choosing the location - assuming the unlock/unhide tools were run - you can choose to install them to the extended_rom instead of device or card.

All done. New ROM installed. CAB's required into extended rom. Even running pocket weather and TCPMP from extend rom.

What a differnece a ROM can make. Its loads faster. Notice it the most on the screen turn. That is a lot quicker.

Phone anwser within a ring and the person (my wife in the other room) could hear me straight away.

Very happy

Thanks for your help.

NEXT !!! HACKING THE REG !!!

I'm glad you got it all sorted. I agree, this ROM is much better than the o2 ones so far, though will of course be trying the new one when it comes out.

I personally like the little battery icon, even though it's not particularly detailed in terms of actual battery life left. I also like the new today clock item, and even tells you if you have an alarm set without having to tap the clock.

Not sure I like the device lock thing, but it's better on than off and the whole thing runs smooooooth now. Pocketbreeze runs quicker, too.

There's plenty of advice for hacking the reg on here but just shout if I can be of help.

Cheers
