2 Simple questions before upgrading

I have been asked to upgrade a mates Blue Angel.

Having checked it fit all the criteria, so I'm not fussed there.

I personally have an Alpine and while reading around on this I saw something about a util that will extra the existing ROMS etc to SD such that should you feel like it you can return to them later - anyone recall what I'm talking about?

The second question, having read the upgrade process on the first post in this forum it talk about resizing the storage to the full 60Mb or leaving it. I understand what they are saying, what I simply want to know is why I should want to go to 60 MB and any downsides of losing the Extended ROM.

Why one would want to change memory spaces is beyond me.
