Blank out old XDA IIs

I have received an XDA IIs from a collegue, and would like to sync it with my notebook with my Outlook, but it's full of all his Outlook stuff.

How can I blank out the phone so that when I sync it with my notebook it will remove all of my collegues data and just leave mine?

Probally not the answer you're looking for, but I would do a hard reset to get rid of everything on it (power + record + reset switch)
