mwilmar,
When you rebuilt my .cab for Himalaya, you included one of my ealier test cabs for Sprint. So everyone installing this cab is also installing an earlier Sprint .cab.

It is called RevisedSmarDialingWM5(Sprint)noHTCSkins.cab and is being installed in your windows directory. You don't need or want this, you can delete it out of windows, as it is 420K in size.

You are also installing CDMA specific system event messages and icons. Maybe I should repost with an HTC generic set. Anyone willing to test?

You also used an earlier test version as the port. You are missing all of the Smartdialing registry keys.

Here is an updated version that should work on Himalaya with all CDMA stuff removed, registry keys added, etc.

Someone should remove the previous version and reinstall this one and let us know if it worked.

Still struggling to get rid of the old one and I don't want to install yours until I'm clean so that we know whether glitches are due to yours or Mwilmar's variant. Kean to hear from others who were clean to begin with!

Right, I tried the simple uninstall (Remove Program) and that didn't work so I've now deleted smartdiailing from \windows and removed any smartdial registry entries. Soft rest and tried to load yours but is it failing to install. I think more because of the prior installation than anything to do with your cab. Anymore I need to delete or any other ideas?

Regards - Mallow1

PS having removed smartdailing from Mwilmar's installation you mentioned a cab c 400k which would have loaded at the same time. what files do I need to delete to free that space up as I cannot locate "RevisedSmarDialingWM5(Sprint)noHTCSkins" or similar.

the "WM5HimaSDial2.CAB" contains another cab named "RevisedSmartDialingWM5(Sprint)noHTCnoSkins.cab" in the first archive of WM5HimaSDial2.rar.
so the size were different, i think.

The originally posted cab has CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) .dll's in it, which won't be obvious for the user, but will have impact on the handset operation. I replaced it with HTC generic dll's that are for every other vendor than Sprint/Verizon. Also, the original installer was missing registry keys, and finally, an additional .cab was being copied to windows, that if run, would have caused problems with the Smartdialer.

Both the installers are my work, mwilmar found the additional file that will make it run on Himalaya. I just didn't have a Himalaya version to test it on.

Sor far, I have this working for Apache, Wizard, and now Himalaya.

Pardon me, I was not reading the whole thread and jumped into conclusion. Now I realized the whole picture. The nested cab is supposed to be omitted, ok I got it now. Thanks guys and great works Paul and Mwilmar. Keep it up.

PS: If I manually change the installed directory to ramdisk folder and then install the cab on device, will it still work?

Paul_Hammons
9th March 2006, 07:03 PM
mallow1,
The uninstall probably yanked the additional cab file, but left the registry keys. The reason the early installer was a "test" version was that it was having registry problems on install and removal, but would install/remove files ok.

Delete the HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartDialing key then retry the newest installer. It should allow you to install, if not, let me know, I can give the whole list of remaining keys that it installs.

BTW, don't try to use this with the ETEN skins. The ETEN skins are not SmartDialing compatible and will break the SmartDialing function. This is a result of ETEN using old .dll's that do not acknowledge that the SmartDialer exists. If ETEN updates the .dlls to the new version, then it will work, or I am in the process of hacking this installer with the ETEN button layout to allow ETEN skins to work. But it will be a few more weeks before this will be ready.

Ferioz,
You can change the directory, but all of the files are system files that get installed into Windows anyway, so there is no point in changing the directory.

Iris_aim,
mwilmar removed the extra .cab, but it is still missing the registry keys and has CDMA .dll's that are being called. For best compatibility, use the update one that I posted, as it has the HTC GSM codes in the .dll's. I don't know how CDMA system codes are going to operate on GSM phones/networks.

Hi Mwilmar,

I hope you don't mind but i have converted the images in your wonderful wm5himasdial2 program to work in the universal devices, then repacked the cab file.

I know this is availble to all universal owners on the form of an extended rom cab called enable_vt_plugin.... but this also gives you the video call button which i will never use.

one question, do you know if it is possible to use smartdial with the default phonepad skin if so, what do you need to change in the cab to disable the skin being installed.

Mallow1

The uninstall probably yanked the additional cab file, but left the registry keys. The reason the early installer was a "test" version was that it was having registry problems on install and removal, but would install/remove files ok.

Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Thanks for your help. I was having a real moo trying to uninstall the prior version and picking through the resigtry. In the end, I've did a planned reflash (upgrading to WM5 2.01 over in buzzdev.net). TofClock has included SmartDail in this new ROM and that seems to be working a treat, so I won't have to reinstall from here.

http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,14557/catid,26/limit,15/limitstart,0/

Qucik Q though. I use Calligrapher a lot. Can SmartDial be set up to use that as the input as opposed only to the phone dial pad?

Kind regards - Mallow1

Dear MWILMAR and Paul,

Accidentally I notice there's a little white dot at the most top-left, just right beneath the start button. It's noticeable when I use black skin dial-pad. Pls take a look at the screenshot. If you guys notice, do you think it can be done to remove that white little dot?

It's confirmed due the SmartDialer, I tried uninstalling SmartDialer and the whitedot was not there.

It doesn't bother much tho, but perhaps it was a bug hehe :)

Cheers.

Try to unistall the cab first, then disable the virgy skin by changing the registry value below, change 1 to 0.

[HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin]
"Enabled"=dword:0

Then install the new cab again. =)

I installed ur scifi_dialer. But I want to change skin ('cuz I dont like black skin much) and still keep smart dial. When i uninstall your dialer, then smart dial also disappear. I also tried to install wm5himasdial2.cab but it didn't work.

I'm using HIMA_WM5_3.33a_AKU23_Virgy, too

visit http://mwilmar.blogspot.com/ u can see step by step instruction there and if u want to customize your self u just have to change the image file on the cab...

I have run the installer "smartdialingwm5_himalaya_" which installed succesfully - after doing a reset I still can't see where I can voice dial - I have the I-Mate Pocket PC Phone Edition (PH10B)

Thanks

Sorry guys but how exactly do i install this on my MDA?

I am new to this and lost my smartdial when i did the reset trick to remove operator skin from t-mobile. I just need the smartdial program and came across this thread. any help would be greatly appreciated.
