View Full Version : Changing ROM in T-Mobile MDA Pro
Hi!
I am about to buy the T-Mobile MDA Pro and have a couple of questions. I live in the Netherlands but I do not speak Dutch. In the T-Mobile they said, that only Dutch version is available. So, my question is, if I get the Dutch version and update the ROM to the version I can download from T-Mobile UK, will this work properly? I mean, after the update... Any country-specific things? Any bit's of functionality specific to the "country of origin"? No surprises when I will make a phone call?
The second question is more generic. I was browsing this site for quite some time, but couldn't find a clear instructions on how to perform ROM update. Any link to it?
Thanks in advance

Once you have downloaded the ROM you need follow these instructions:
1. Unzip the downloaded ROM using winrar
2. Copy MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe to the extracted folder
3. Then synced MDA to backup all contacts, pictures, files, etc.
4. Then put the device in bootloader mode( Light + Power button + Reset)
5. run the maupgrade utility & the upgrade will start. It will upgrade the Radio ROM, then the Extended ROM & then the CE ROM..
6. It will give you a screen with a congratulations message.
7. unplugged the device & cold booted it ( ie, power +reset)
You can download MAUpgradeNoID.exe from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42743&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=125
The above file will negate the country code situation.
Hope this helps

Thanks, man
I am a bit scared, but I will give it a try. I must have this device in a couple of days...
As I understand, this will not mess up with the differences in the country-specific services (voice calling, GPRS, WiFi etc)?
Thanks a bunch

You will need to input the correct GPRS setting for your device. this can be found here:
http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
Remember to select "Cellular line (GPRS, 3G)" in select box.

I am still in the process of odering it. The stupid T-Mobile has it cheap on their web site (Dutch version of MDA Pro). I walked into a T-Mobile store and.. they have English version (only English)!!! However, they sell this mobile for 300 EUR more then on their web site!
Apparently every T-Mobile shop has its own prices (and it looks like they use different delivery channels as well), but you cannot call them to find out the prices and/or check the availability, they don't have publicly available phone numbers!
I am pissed off!
