Hi, will u pls tell me something about this ROM, I'm wondering what are the original parts of the combination -- IPL, SPL, Radio and OS. Is there a offical release of the T-mobile US ROM of 2.17.x? thx in advance.

Someone deleted all the uploads on xda-dev. I will be uploading the files to http://xelencin.shackspace.com/ruu since xda-dev's ftp server seems to be unstable right now. If anyone wants to grab these and host them on their own for everyone else I would greatly appreciate it.
The filesizes are:
CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_1081002_108_10910_TMO_US.exe: 49,624,050 bytes
CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe: 52,143,410 bytes

The ipl, spl, radio and os all come from the qtek 2.17 rom. The htc logo and splash come from the t-mobile usa rom. The extended rom is my own creation. There is no offical 2.17 rom for t-mobile, they are rather slow at these things.

For what it's worth, I was just trying to download these files, and when the download completed, I ran it and got a corrupted file error. I look at the FTP server again, and the file have disappeared! Someone is deleting the files, it appears.

Sounds great... What is NOT in this that was in the stock ROM load? How far off will it be from the T-Mobile version that shipped with the MDA?
Also - any comparisons in terms of:
- amount of storage the two versions take?
- program memory/storage? (never enough!)
- speed / performance
TIA...

ahhh, I flashed one of my two devices (my wife's) Qtek 9100 and now it just boots and reboots over and over. Ok, without being able to establish an activesync connection, how do I flash it back? My phone is running the Qtek 9100 AKU2 release just fine. I should have just done the same to hers.

Not sure where to find it...but I've read a few posts that, as I recall, tell you how to get into the boot loader of the MDA, and proceed to reload the firmware from there. I'd do some searching around here - I suspect you'll find somebody (or an older post) that can help you get the toasted MDA back up to snuff...

The Newer ROM is up and working great so far...
The Original T-Mobile ROM seems to be corrupted and not available on the different links provided.

bootloader: hold the camera or recorder button in while resetting... then run an RUU. I had to run through many old incarnations and slowly update the device. I won't be trying a custom rom again.

You got it working though?
I understand the feeling... much as I'd like to try a newer ROM, I'm thinking that I'll probably wait a bit to see if T-Mobile comes out with an official release soon. Maybe it's silly of me...but I'd rather be in a position where they'll still fix or replace the phone if their own firmware load messes up my MDA. I've done a bunch of firmware updates to various devices over the years, and still find that I hold my breath while doing it. Don't need any extra problems just now, and my MDA is working really nicely for the moment, even loaded up with Wisbar Advance, PocketBreeze, ContactBreeze, iLauncher and some nice skins. I'd like some more memory, but the whole thing seems stable throughout the day, and responsive...so I think I'll leave well enough along for now!

You got it working though?
Yes, thank goodness... but the phone is without some important things. Of course, like me, her phone was/is using push email, so she gets the most critical stuff back immediately, but custom app settings, etc are gone. I did have a recent SPB Backup... and all restores ok except for System Data. When restoring that part, the system will freeze and restart and then I have to hard reset. I wish I could do a more finely tuned custom restore and narrow down the troublesome part of the restore. Oh well, now to reinstall all of the apps that were on here.

Your experience brings back too many memories for me! Think I'll wait for a bit...no urgency to modify my setup today. I'd love to know why it is that some people experience a painless firmware load, and others have the kind of troubles you report - I don't see a clear pattern - and I'd feel a lot more comfortable reloading my own phone if I could be more confident that it didn't have the chance of turning into one of Dr Frankenstein's projects... For the moment, I'll wait and watch...

You say you're giving credit to Button for inspiration. I currently use the ROM he posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37980&highlight=rom) and would like to know what benefits I'd get by changing to the one from this thread.
Can anyone tell me succinctly what's to be gained by switching? I see the increase in version numbers but it doesn't tell me anything.

If you have T-Mobile USA I'd say go for it. Its the latest ROM version, it runs fast and snappy, and it has the T-Mobile USA data settings and boot/splash screens so it looks like a branded device. I didn't include all the useless tmobile customizations though.

Correct. You'd be better off loading the qtek 2.17 rom, as that is what my package was created from.

Can you tell me how to create a custom ROM for T-Mobile UK, similar to your T-Mobile USA ROM. I too want to load the latest Q-Tec 2.17 ROM but want to retain as much useful T-Mobile stuff as possible and ensure GPRS, MMS and email still work.

I am curious too. I tried several times to mesh the I-Mate Rom and the T-Mobile settings and could never get it all to work out. I ended up flashing my Qtek 9100 with the T-Mobile MDA original rom and ext rom. While it is slow and has memory leak issues, it does have the email triggers and settings, so I've been pleased thus far. I would like something a bit faster but not at the expense of having the same issues as I had with the I-Mate rom. Would love to here pro/cons etc., as well as possible tweaks to improve performance.
TIA!!

Comm Mgr works fine for me. Two things i noticed though.
After setting a password, I set the "Prompt if device unused for" to 0 minutes. This usually means only prompt for a password if the phone is turned off then on, but now it prompts for password when left on after 1 minute on inactivity. I only want to be prompted during startup.
The other thing is the battery icom in the title bar. It obscures the date/time that i had displayed there.

Thanks xelencin and those who made this ROM possible. My MDA is lighting fast right now. I was very pleased with the MDA's stock ROM, but i decided to bite the dust, shut my eyes, twisted my fingers to turn my most precios toy to a brick or to something better or worst. Honestly it wasn't as bad if you do enough research, follow direction carefully, and make sure you read the instructions twice before each step. make sure you backup as much as you can of course. The process went without a hitch and woalla heheheehe. Ok where do i start? the phone volume is louder. The phone is very snappy (though there were some scary moments when i press the start button and it took about 5 sec for the pull down menu - this is gone of course). More storage because without most of the ExtROM crap, that's a plus for me too. I have an unlimit data plan for 19 bucks (how did i get that? the tmo sales prep i dealt with didn't know tmo changed the plan price to 29.99 - all i had to do was to argue with tmo customer rep that it is in my contract for 19.99 and they grand fathered it in woallla lucky me - mabe you should try that too hehehe - but really it was written in my contract). Anyway i was going to let the plan go because i didn't think the speed was fast enough, and it is a bit hassel to web browsing through EDGE/GRPS and most at time i am at a place that has WIFI to tap into. Well guess what, the data plan is staying because it is zooming right now, much faster than before. Remote Desktop and Citrix are working really well now. Who said MDA is to slow for remote desktop?????? Battery capacity seems to be much better as well. Wifi works for me without a hitch, i think it is faster too but i couldn't really tell. one plus feature with this ROM that TMO MDA lacking is Java Midlet. I now can use Google Local and Mini Opera and many midlets later on hehehe. I have not tried Push email but will soon. Bottom line if you don't have heart problem or not taking any arnger managment class and want some juice in your life go ahead with this ROM. I hope i don't talk too soon but my MDA ROCKS, My friend has a 6700 and he thinks it is slower than my MDA, what give????? hehehe. Once again, thank you xelencin and those who made this ROM possible.
My only question is i used lokiwiz to sim unlock my phone before i upgrade. will my phone still be sim unlock after upgrade? Haven't tested it yet but i will, just need a quick answer.

Since items like the clock are in different places, will this affect the way various skins work with the new ROM?
Also wondering about tools such as Wisbar Advanced 2, and the choices it gives you for items in the title bar and task bar, reordering them, skinning, etc. Will this all work the same with the new ROM? I imagine it should, just wondering if anyone has tried it out...

I just upgraded to this ROM last night and had some of the same questions. I use Wisbar Advance 2 and any selections you make through your skin of choice show up as expected and you are able to reorder them as you like. I believe the way WA2 works is it draws itself over the title bar not in lieu of it.
Thanks for the efforts to put this ROM together. My MDA (T-Mobile USA) is running better than ever.

Hi I am new to this forum and I have read through all the posts regarding backing up and unlocking the HTC Wizard / Tmobile variant.
I have already backed up my phone using the aWizard utility and I have unlocked it.
Just wondering if the latest firmware posted here is really worth the upgrade from the original firmware loaded on the phone?
Also, for those that have already upgraded with success, did you loose any of the factory installed apps with the modded firmwares available here.
I only ask this due to some of the unsucessful posts in this thread.

to me it is worth it. not anything that i would missed. the only factory installed app that that i notice missing is the instant messaging package. Is it in the old extROM? if so which one is it? Could some one please let me know?

Hi,
I successfully upgraded my T-Mobile MDA to this ROM. Evetyrhong looks great so far. I have only few questions:
a) How do you reboot the device into bootloader? When I turn off the phone and use <Power Button> + <Camera button> nothing happens. No boot. It seems like the <Power> Button stops working. To power on I have to do a soft reset. FYI, powering off using this button seems to work
b) I can't find the Pocket Outlook utility. It is replaced by the T-Mobile My-Email utility. How can I get it back?
c) In the Comm Manager, the icon representing the E-mail push is grayed out. How can I enable this? I'd liek to get this mail push thing
d) Finally, how do you configure the GPRS/EDGE connection?
Thanks for your great work and help,
/Dung

Hi Dung,
hopefully I can answer some of your questions.
a. to get to the bootloader turn your phone on (not off) with the power and camera buttons
b. when you are in outlook email. instead of selecting setup my Email, select new account. I think this is what you want though I am not sure
c. for push email to work the email server has to be exchange 2003 with sp2. on the WM5 side you just need to do an exchange sync and put in your exchange sever hostname (exchange external host name). On exchange server side you need to configure outlook mobile access for the account you are using. there will be some complications if your exchange server is configure to use form based auth and SSL for exchange HTPP (OWA, OMA). I am posting this message from my MDA so I can't post up some helpful links regarding about this exchange issue. just let me know if you need help further. after you are done configuring exchange active an successfully perform an exchange active sync, Push Email should start working and the push email button will no longer be grayed out.
d. this ROM should automatically configure GPRS/EDGE if you have Tmo as your service provider. to manually configure it go to Connections in Connections and click on manage existing connection in Tmobile GPRS.

To add to the previous post with regard to the GRPS/EDGE option:
There is NO way to individually manage EDGE. It is under the GPRS settings of your phone.
On mine I can tell I am on EDGE when I see that the K/sec download is in the right range. Pages come up faster.
I hope this helps.

Meaning that Yahoo, AIM,and MSN. Just because of that suckie package and you want to pass on a beeter ROM????? You can always load Instant Messaging software back from your backup extROM. You do back up don't you? it's called signed_OZPocket... something. but it sucks anyhow, even with Push Email meaning that EDGE/GPRS is always on. I installed this ROM yesterday and since then my battery indicator seems to be stuck on 100%. Well so I turned on wifi and all power saving features are off just to see if it will move.
After about a half hour it droped to 99% then another 20minutes or so it dropped to 98%.
WOW the battery life has realy improved in this ROM!

I have one newbie question:
After reading the previous posts and backing up my factory setup, I can see all the .CAB files int he EXT rom backup on my PC.
I am wondering how would I install a specific cab file back to the phone if it is NOT included with the custom ROM given above.
Since I have not yet gone through the process of flashing I am not sure how to install a CAB file onto a pocket PC device...
Is it as simple as copying the CAB to the device and then running it from the UI of the phone?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the simplicity of the question...

I still have not flashed my phone with the new ROM yet.
I am goign to wait untill a can figgure out how to get the battery indicator back as well.
I tend to think that it may be part of the Connmanager cab, but I am *NOT* sure.

help me out here. I've gotten a pretty good understanding on how to do a custom ROM of my own, but I'm pretty much stuck at the converting a nbf file to an nba file so I can dump it and muck around with the files.
I've checked out the nbf to nba tool, but it gives me a "bad password" error when I try to convert the file to an nba. Does the QTEK WWE rom need a password? The tools for dumping the ROM don't recognize the file as is.
I'd like to do a Cingular version of this if at all possible.

Also: what util will allow me to open / view the contents of the NBA file?

3 Things:
1.) There is a cab that REMOVES the old battery meter which I put in the extended rom, this same cab is standard in the qtek and imate versions of these roms. The reason being is that there is NO WAY to remove the battery icon at the top of the screen. What's the point of having 2? This seems to be standard now in the new roms.
2.) The built-in T-Mobile OZ Instant Messaging client is complete garbage, it is also SMS based. Use the alpha version of Agile Messenger for WM5. It can be found in the forum.
3.) I went through testing ALL the Qtek and T-Mobile cabs in this rom. Some of the T-Mobile default cabs WILL MESS UP your WM5 setup and you will have to do a hard reset to fix it. I didn't include any of the undeeded t-mobile customizations including the hotspot utility. This was not included because you can log into a hotspot just by trying to visit a website in pocket ie, it will bring you to the login page. The hotspot utility uses extra memory and is just a waste. Also I do not have a list of what cabs do what, I just grabbed what I needed and combined them into a single cab.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! My default build from T-Mobile does NOT include a battery indicator at the top of the screen, so I was under the assumption that the battery indicator was missing from the front page totally.
As far as the other apps, I agree that I can do without them.

Hey guys. seen some good reviews of this ROM and am really considering flashing my MDA because I have had so many problems and constantly having to soft-reset to get things going again.
My question is that I have heavily modified my MDA already with reg hacks, applications, overclocking etc. What happens to all this stuff? Do I back it up? Is it unaffected after the update? Does the update wipe this stuff clean?
If so can I just backup to my SD using Sprite or something and restore afterwards or will this cause some conflicts because of the switch in ROMS? Not really too much of a pain to reinstall stuff, but a little annoying i guess, thanks!

actually the flash is just like a FRESH install.
All of you INSTALLED mods will need to be re-applied. ( Based on my experience so far )
It is worth it however.
You can put the CABs of the files you wish to install on your flash card to make the install process easier.

My last post mentioned some troubles I was having. The flash itself went well, but I ran into trouble reinstalling all my apps. I think now that it wasn't totally necessary (there might have been workarounds I missed), but I wound up doing a hard reset today, and reinstalling apps again.
Anyway - net of all this is that my phone is running beautifully now with 2.17 -- thanks SO much for this ROM installer. The ROM really was the easy part -- it's just getting the apps, tweaks and skins all right that I had to be careful about. But now I've got a bunch loaded up, it all works beautifully, looks great, is faster than before, and takes up less memory.
Fantastic! Thanks again!

Unfortunately you can't. It's either hard coded or set via registry. If it's set via registry, the key has yet to be identified.

I think it's set via the registry and not hard coded. Before I flashed my MDA to the ROM 2.17, I was using T-Mobile original ROM and the battery icon was NOT shown. Instead, the time (and later the date via registry change) was shown.
I am mucking around the registry, but couldn't find it so far. I think it may have some funky key name, much like the registry hack of showing the date and time (TBop).

Thanks for the info, but it doesn't show anything about changing the battery icon on the top. It seems that there is a way to remove it by using WisBar advance, but I don't want to install a software just to remove the battery bar on top.
It's true that this is not a critical matter, but it hampers my ability to look at the time just by glancing at the Today's screen, much like if I have a regular phone, I can look at the time.
BTW, speaking of battery, I am using SpB Pocket Plus and I can see the battery bar at the very top of the taskbar, in forms of multiple strips that goes down as the battery goes down.

I have just flashed my MDA with this ROM and it is working great so far. No problems yet.
In answer to the questions about the Comm Manager icons (decided to answer because I have a related question) the icons (top to bottom - left to right) are:
Phone
WiFi
Stop Data Service
Bluetooth
Microsoft DirectPush (requires Exchange Server 2003 w/SP2)
Vibrate
Active Sync
Some of the above icons are not available all of the time eg. when you "Stop Data Service" the icon is no longer active and cannot be used and DirectPush requires syncing with a server be setup to be available.
However, the question I have is that the icon/button for ActiveSync is never active or usable for me. This is not a huge issue for me as I have setup a schedule for syncing. Am I missing something here? Let me know.

The only way is to not allow customizations to install and install them yourself manually from the extended rom. I don't see how total commander is affecting you, it does nothing with cabs at all, it is just a file manager/registry editor.

Anson -
I have the belkin pre-n -- actually one of the first they released, ver 1001 (sticker on bottom of unit). Works beautifully with my T-Mobile MDA -- I had it working with the original shipping ROM, and it connects even faster with the 2.17 ROM.
With original ROM, even though I had the 802.11g hack in the MDA, I also had to put the Belkin into "mixed" mode, accepting both "b" and "g" connections. Now with the new ROM, after I put in the 802.11g hack, I can run the Belkin "pre-N" in "g-only" and the MDA still sees it and connects almost immediately.
For security, I'm using WPA/TKIP (note that it must be the same on the router and the phone!), and of course the "psk" (pre-shared-key) must be identical on the router and phone too.
Anyway - the combo works perfectly - MDA with 2.17 ROM, 802.11g hacks and Belkin "pre-n" router set to WPA/TKIP in "mixed" or "g-only".
Note: I've read some posts to the effect that WM5 seems far more compatible with WPA than with WEP...which is ok anyway, since WEP is a seriously compromised "security" standard these days since it's become so easy to crack.

BTW: - re OZ being slow. I read some press releases from 2004 indicating that T-Mobile signed up with OZ to use their messaging gateway product to manage IM services for TMo customers. I'm wondering now if the problems people are seeing re: slow response, etc with OZ IM really has anything to do with the client, or if it's because TMo is aggregating all the IM traffic on an OZ messaging gateway that's under-spec'd.
Does OZ traffic have to go through a gateway like this? Is it possible to configure it to talk directly to services like AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ? (maybe it already is and I'm imagining this gateway stuff...but that's what it looked like to me...)

I am wondering how much of the "snappiness" after the install is actually due to the hard reset. I had experimented with some software, including pocket informant, which I decided I didn't need or didn't like. Nothing seems to really uninstall in WM5, so, having taken careful notes on my setup, I performed a hard reset and then re-installed the software I wanted to use. There was definitely a speed increase, but that is probably due to eliminating junk and dead registry items.
I would like to know the time to a responsive today screen for a US T-Mobile MDA that has been reflashed with xelencin's ROM. With the stock MDA, I get 63 seconds, which degrades to 85 after I add spb Today plus and 4 plug-ins, Smartskey, etc. The test I use is the time from pressing the reset button to the Today screen responding to a down arrow command. This, by the way, is much slower than my boot of my Windows XP laptop, which boots in less than 60 seconds.
I had just performed the hard reset before I read about this new ROM, but will probably install it when it is next time for a hard reset. WM5 reminds me of Windows 98, which needed frequent re-installs from scratch to run properly.
Let me add that this is an awesome site and xelencin's contribution is the kind of dramatic gift that makes it so.

Uninstalls really are a joke in WM5 it seems. I've gotten used to browsing the entire file structure after an uninstall, and manually deleting subdirs in Program Files links in Startup and scouting around for other application folders and files. Somebody messed up here! You would think that MS would understand uninstall requirements by now. In theory, all that *should* be needed is a list of all files and folders added by the application (along with reference counts for shared files), lists of items overwritten along with backed up copies of what they overwrite -- along with a robust uninstall routine built into WM5 that knows how to unhook DLL's, Today Screen plugin entries, and put things back together as described by the installer logs. This should be trivial after all the experience they've had with Windows as well as pocket pc.
BTW: tools like MemMaid help with a period housekeeping, although I haven't found a "perfect" one yet...

Next time I do a hard reset, I'll capture the startup time before and after all my app installs. I'm postponing that day as long as I can, however, because it has become pretty tedious and time consuming. After a hard reset, I install:
- Wisbar Advance 2
- PocketBreeze
- ContactBreeze
- iLauncher
- MS Voice Command
- Darryl Burling Voice Enable
- OpenNETCF
- .net framework
- Registry Wizard
- MemMaid
- Resco File Explorer and Registry Editor
- PocketZenPhone (PZP)
- PZP links, PZP skins, PZP user-defined profiles
- skins for Wisbar, PocketBreeze/ContactBreeze, iLauncher & a theme
...then of course I have to allow ActiveSync to reinstall and resync.
All in all, with a couple of warm resets in the process, this takes WAY too long to want to do more than once in a while....after a while, the "fun" goes out of this exercise!
Let me add that this is an awesome site and xelencin's contribution is the kind of dramatic gift that makes it so.
Yes, yes and yes! As much as I love the MDA, it would have been a much more time consuming and painful learning curve without this site. Thanks again to all who make it what it is.

If you Read through the first 1-2 pages of posts here, you will have a good idea of how to do this step by step.
The process from the downloded ROM files guides you pretty well, HOWEVER i STRONGLY recommend that you backup all your data and make sure that you read any of the problems that people have had.
Since your phone is NOT exacly the same as the wiza200, I would suggest that you search for any other people that have sucessfully upgraded their Cingular 8125 models to this firmware.

I, too, have a long recovery from a hard reset. In order, I install
black theme
smartskey
omapclock and two shortcuts to automate speeds (216 and 240)
engineering calculator
registry wizard (requires settings)
phm traylaunch (requires lots of tedious settings since no cut and paste)
bticon
mortsaver
memmaid
set up pop3 email account
record eight quick dial voice commands for the car
get activesync running
zagat to go (on pc card, just needs shortcut in start menu)
listpro (on pc card, just needs shortcut in start menu)
newsbreak (on pc card, just needs shortcut in start menu)
metro (on pc card, just needs shortcut in start menu)
spb today plus
spb weather
spb backup
spb diary
spb media
these require a lot of configuration
sjphone, and a little configuration
configure to receive from 3 wireless routers
Total time is about 8 hours, but I can multitask.

Preston -
I'm getting agita just reading your list. Deja vu! Thinking now that it would be neat to come up with a way of automating our favorite installs -- something like a comprehensive install script that you can assemble and run from the PC that's plugged into the mobile device.
I'm starting to ponder this more seriously now, because I think I'd like to try my MDA with a leaner, more carefully selected set of enhancements. But that means the hard reset, reinstall, reconfig cycle again. Not my happiest fantasy...

Jonazem:
Some of them, like voice recognition, are probably impossible to automate (unless you can figure out where the files are stored...), but it ought to be easy enough to automate dropping shortcuts into the appropriate folders. I'm already using windows for that.
Installing software on the SD card helps, since that requires just a shortcut drop to re-install, when it works.
Actually, traylaunch needs to be linked to the shortcuts in the Start Menu folder, because otherwise the icons are lost during the frequent occurrance that the SD card becomes unavailable, even if briefly.

Ummm...did you ever CID unlock your MDA before this??? If not, you're really asking for trouble! You MUST CID unlock before flashing one company's branded firmware ROM (in this case Qtek) onto another company's branded hardware (in this case, T-Mobile). Otherwise you may be looking at a quick and easy way to "brick" your phone, creating a lovely new high-tech-look paperweight. PLEASE read this thread before proceeding!

Sorry if this annoys anyone - I've spent the last 7 hours trying to find out the best method. I want to do two things:
A) BACKUP my USA T-Mobile MDA to SD, so I can restore it later
B) Upgrade to the T-Mobile USA 2.17 ROM (Custom)
After reading all the posts, let me see if this is correct:
STEP ONE: UNLOCK:
- First of all, I'm going to UNLOCK the device using lockiwiz
- (Do I need to do this twice? Once for the SIM and once for the CID?)
- After device is unlocked, I'm going to back it up.
STEP TWO: BACKUP:
- I've got an extra 128MB MiniSD card, which I'm using just for this purpose:
- I'm going to use TeraTermPro to backup to the SD card.
- I'm going to use the following command: r2sd all
- (This will backup EVERYTHING to the MiniSD, right?)
STEP THREE: UPGRADE:
- To Upgrade, I'm going to just run the CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_217....exe file, right?
- That's it, okay?
AFTER THE UPGRADE (OR BEFORE?):
- Should I uninstall ActiveSync?
- Presumably I should, as I will have a clean wiped device, and I'll want to start a new partnership?
- Should I uninstall ActiveSync before or after I upgrade to the new ROM?
Thank you all. This is a great forum. I'm also going to post this in the T-Mobile USA 2.17 ROM (Custom) section as well.

The filesizes are:
CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_1081002_108_10910_TMO_US.exe: 49,624,050 bytes
CUSTOM_RUU_Prodigy_2170702_217_20710_TMO_US.exe: 52,143,410 bytes
do i dl the first, install it, then dl the 2nd and install that as well or just install one? thanks in advance.
Download both. The "108" version is the stock ROM that's loaded in the T-Mobile MDA as it ships today. The "217" version is the custom ROM installer that starts with the stock Qtek 2.17 ROM, includes a hand-picked selection of the important parts of the T-Mobile extended ROM (such as the network settings for GPRS/EDGE and MMS), T-Mobile spash and ringtones, along with a couple of good free utilities and a CAB that performs some of the tweaks that have become well-known for being "good things" (such as improving performance, turning on the "E" to indicate when you're getting a true EDGE connection).
The 1.08 version is backup for you, in case you wish to fall back to the same version that comes with the MDA today. You shouldn't need it, but it's good to keep handy.
The 2.17 installer is the handiwork of generous and talented "xelencin", (Long may he thrive!). He thoughtfully included a CID unlocker as well, along with helpful prompts and warnings, making this a very straightforward tool -- IF you take the time to read up a bit, make sure you've got yourself covered in the event of surprises and proceed carefully.

I downloded the ROM and installed in my MDA with no problems. I have installed other programs as Pocket Artist, Resco Explorer and Resco today's plug-in, etc.... so far... no problem. Excellent ROM.
I also seen the improvement in my battery life (finish charging this morning at 8am... and so far by 12:45... I have 100%)
Once again great job!!! :D

I just did the upgrade. Was scared at the end as it re-booted and asked to calibrate the screen and nothing was happening when I touched the screen, but in about 3 minutes it worked great.
One problem: How do I copy my contacts from my SIM card to my contacts list? I can't find any way to do this now since I upgraded and my SIM contacts don't show up anymore either. Anyone help? Thanks.....

Vespa - Sorry - maybe I missed this earlier in the thread, but what's the problem with IE? I did the 2.17 custom ROM upgrade a few days ago, and IE works just fine.
As far as my Internet connections go - it seems that T-Mobile must have gotten their gateway issues from last month fixed. Back then, I had to use two different connections "settings groups". One used the wap.voicestream.com gateway and handled WAP and MMS, and the other used internet2.voicestream.com and handled HTTP, Email and other common internet protocols. Took a big of fiddling to get it all right, but it worked quite well at the time.
I checked after flashing my MDA, and noticed that the config was using a single gateway - wap.voicestream.com, for all traffic, all protocols. Out of curiosity, I tried it - and now it works just fine. I was told last month by T-Mobile that, with the total internet add-on, I'm permissioned to use either gateway. At this point, I don't know if there's a difference. Anyone with input on this, I'd be interested in knowing (e.g., perhaps one is aimed at T-Zones users and one designated for unlimited Internet plans?).
Anyway - back on topic - IE seems to work just fine with this setup under the new 2.17 ROM. What kind of problems are you seeing?

Programs that automatically connect to private network: T-mobile GPRS

Is there a way to tunr on BT without going through Comm Manager? With this ROM, pressing "Exit" on the Comm Manager interface does NOT close that app. I have to go to "Memory" and kill the app manually. Otherwise, It'll take almost 1 Mb of my precious memory.
That's interesting cause after I upgraded to 2.17 I thought this app commander was really nice program. Glad I got it with upgrade. Sorry for your problem, I know it's annoying when something does not work like it does for others, but I am not experiencing this issue at all on my MDA

I have been enjoying this new quicker ROM for a week and just noticed yesterday that the left soft key is now linked to Phone whereas with the original T-Mobile ROM it was linked to Calender.
Is this just me or do you guys also have this change? Is there a way to remap it to Calendar?
Thanks.
That's pretty weird. I'm using the 2.17 customized ROM, and my left soft-key is still the Calendar key...
Interesting enoup after reading ur post, since I only upgraded yesterday, and had not tested this key, I jumped on it. And weird, but the phone kicked in, then the calander kicked in almost instant. Now the calander just comes up consistantly. Of course one of the nicest features of the MDA is that key changes depending on what mode ur in. Good Luck

Finally got to load this ROM today, it's fantastic..
Everything runs smoothly and I have around 55% free'd up ram when nothing's running :D
I recommend it strongly
Let me understand this correctly cause I would kill for 55% available RAM. Out of the 64MB i was normally getting about 18-15MB left with old ROM, depending on what I was running. With new ROM I am getting about 19-20 possibly. I would kill for 35MB available RAM. What have you done differently.

Sup, Dog! Fancy meeting you here!
Weird re: WiFi. I seem to have a great signal with 2.17. If anything, it seems to detect new networks faster and connect really quickly. I can be anywhere in my house, on the deck or out front, and it never loses the signal.
I also like trying out WiFi connections wherever I can find them now. I haven't done any wardriving in a while, and it's SO easy now. I'm amazed at how many unsecured WiFi networks there are around here, and also how many secure ones as well. I'm seeing tons of them in most businesses and stores these days, in doctors' offices, etc.
I noticed in the "Startup Group" that there's a link that I don't remember from the old ROM -- although I could be having a Senior Moment. Do you see "WiFiInit.lnk" in your startup group? I'm guessing it fires up some kind of daemon that keeps track of WiFi connections in the area -- and I'm guessing that's why it's able to connect so quickly when I activate WiFi.
Let's see...do you have the 802.11g tweak in place?
This shouldn't affect the way WM5 reports signal strength - but ya never know with Windoze: I'm connecting via WPA/TKIP. I had read somewhere that WM5 doesn't play nicely with WEP...not sure if that pertains or not...

Actually I was spending time looking around to get the courage to upgrade to the 2.17, so I just joined it, cause it would not le me download files. But I unlocked and upgraded with the RUU 2.17. I did not backup using the other techniques, too lazy to buy another SD card, and by time I convinced my brain to take a chance I was tire. Besides I don't have a contract with TMobile anyhow, and if they give me too much trouble, now I can move to another network. But I like TMobile for the most part. I am really glad I upgraded! I mean it's the ultimate hack, right? Glad I did it!
The email situation with hofo is trully weird, but so is my Wi-Fi right now on the MDA after upgrade. You know I use Wi-Fi companion, I may have to unload it and re load it, just to see. For the most part, I am having no problems with Opera, or email, I seem to be on pretty fast.
Yes I see WiFiInt.ink in startup. And I did use Tweak2k2 to upgrade to 802.11G and I just verified the registry to see it was there. What do u think?

Thanks man I appreciate your help. I am going a little kokoo with this wi-fi cause I want to see my old signal strength. So I tried reloading my old backup, yes I know stupid, but I had wi-fi flying with old ROM. Well needless to say old backup did not boot up properly, kind of froze, even after several soft boots. So I coldboot device again???? And stepped on my own philosophy of installing a cab on ppc, and forgetting my own rule or hacking WM5 first so that it does not delete cab files. Needless to say, something happend and WM5 deleted the wi-fi cab file. Anyway, rather than hotsync, I used my new app NetworkLAN. Got on my home LAN and downloaded wifi cab again. But, before installing anything, I noticed in regular connections wireless lan, that the signal strength was excellent. I have not changed reg hack for G yet. What fun this is.... I tell you man once it's all working, i'm going to join a board on topics about sailing, cause these hack topics gets ur blood going, and then i want to try something new. Man normall people don't do this. I was chatting with an editor of Smartphone/Pocket PC mag, and told him they should write an article about crazy ppc user hackers like us. He was curious. I await his response. Who knows it could make an interesting article.

It is sort of an addiction or obsession... the more I dig into it, the less I'm willing to accept things as they are when I *know* they could be better. Then I wind up staying up till 2:30am digging for answers when I know that my alarm clock is set to 6:00am...(so what am I doing now back on the board tonight???). What's "normal" anyway? I spent a few months on another board devoted to outdoor grills...and a few of us really got into modding the grills, testing and comparing the quality of the stainless steel in competing brands, experimenting with catalytic flame deflectors, mods to super-heat the grill, etc. But there was just so much time I could spend there in the end, so that's done for now (but I'm looking forward to grilling again now that it's nice out!). I'm also really into martial arts - but never found the discussions on the boards worth pursuing for long.
Anyway - this has all gotten me really interested, and it's revived my flagging interest in software (you get sorta jaded after 25 years of doing something!). The convergence of phones, mobile PC's, streaming content, WiFi - wow - there's an energy and creativity here I haven't seen in computing in a while, and despite the fact that pocket PC's and embedded linux devices have been around for a while, I think we're really coming up on an exciting period, especially as TV, Internet, 3G, 4G, etc, all start to converge...
Later...

Do what I did: get SpB backup. It create an image of your MDA. I did the 1st hard reset, customize the PPC and create a backup image. Afterwards, I install the app. one by one and play around with it for 1 day before installing another one. If it messed up, I have a backup image and voila! everything back to normal immedialtey without a hard reset.
This are the list of apps that I KNOW (after testing and re-testing) that does not messed up my MDA:
1. Agenda Fusion (use lots of memory though)
2. Spb Pocket Plus
3. City Time
4. Fizz Weather
5. iGuidance (GPS navigation software)
6. eWallet
7. ListPro
8. Newsbreak
Now I have 2 image file:
1. CLEAN MDA which I have configured to my liking, but no 3rd party app
2. BASE MDA, which is based on #1, but with the above app.
Next time I do a hard reset, I'll capture the startup time before and after all my app installs. I'm postponing that day as long as I can, however, because it has become pretty tedious and time consuming.
All in all, with a couple of warm resets in the process, this takes WAY too long to want to do more than once in a while....after a while, the "fun" goes out of this exercise!

I have one question about this ROM.
I have been running this ROM for about 2 weeks now and I have been wondering how to disconnect from an active GPRS/ EDGE session.
I think I used to be able to click on the connection icon and choose DISCONNECT as an option.
NOW I do not see that option anymore.
Does anyone have a workaround?

This ROM has a better Connection Manager than the old one. Try pressing button one (upper left side of the phone above the volume slide control) to bring up the Connection Mgr. One of the new icons on it is normally disabled, but becomes enabled (and shows up in green) when you have an active data connection - tapping this will shut down your data connection, and then you can exit the Comm Mgr again.

Nah...lots of little details to keep track of with these releases, and Microsoft has made an art out of creating user interfaces that are totally arbitrary, inconsistent and have features hidden and strewn throughout so that it may take years to find everything you'd like to know about.
That's why forums like this are so valuable -- they're like a big group therapy session for all of us who are completely addled by Windows Mobile. We get to take turns crying, gnashing our teeth and spilling our guts, and the rest try to cheer up and encourage the one who has the floor. Come to think of it...it's almost like a 12 Step Windows Mobile Recovery program...

In silent mode, yes. In regular mode, I get a shortened beep (as it's too sleepy to make the full sound :-)).

I got my MDA today, for some reason my computer doesn't seem to like it and I think decided to kill it.
a) went to install the 2.17 ROM, ran the unlock util at the beginning, the unlock tool crashed midway
b) figured it had worked anyway, installed the ROM
c) got DATA CRASH SIM Lock when I rebooted with the SIM in (I've tried 2 cards)
d) tried reflashing with the original ROM, no luck
e) tried running the lokiwiz utility in all ways, shapes, and forms, no luck
Is there a way to fix this or am I returning it DOA

It's actually easiest to run the file from the old extended ROM which does this - Signed_DiscoButton8.sa.CAB.

HOLY JESUS CHRIST! WOW that was interesting, I installed the rom yesterday and I can say I have never been in such suspense in my life... you guys remember how it feels when you take a plunge on a rollercoaster, well my heart was beating like that for all 15 plus mins of the instalation, thank God everything worked out, now my little bit of info to everyone, the only problem I experienced was that I tried to do a restore from a sunnysoft backup manager .exe file I had done, and I don't know exactly what went wrong, but my MDA would freeze at the start up screen, so I had to poke it for a while until I finally learned how to do a hard reset with the hardware buttons. Afterwards I installed everything manually and so far so good, thanks a lot bro, now I just await for A2DP.

Hey bro had the same problem, check your MMS settings, go to the SERVERS tab and and open up the T-Mobile MMS settings, on the "Connect via" select box pic "T-Mobile GPRS", for some reason mine got changed to "The internet" and it wasn't working either, as soon as I changed that I've been able to send and receive them with no problem. For the most part, I love the speed of the new MDA rom, especially the bootup time. However here are the things the bug me. Any suggestions anyone?:
1. Cannot remove battery indicatior on the top taskbar (though i found out how to get the bottom dock indicator back; leaving me with two battery indicators!)
2. The battery indicator replaces the time that used to be seen on top dock
3. Day and Date are now separated to two different lines (instead of one staight line taking up more space on the today screen and forces a scroll bar on the side

4. Cannot purposely disconnect from my GPRS connection (not wifi) - i was able to do this with the original rom

marscandybars, ok for question 1 & 2 look through the forums for a file called LVMTime.cab don't know where it's at exactly, but it gives you back your clock... downside is it removes your signal meter I think it was, haven't tried it myself. Question 3 & Question 4....ummm your on your own. And 5. I assume you have a data plan so why don't you download agilemessenger, it is WAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY better then the OZ messenger, plus it has google talk, XMPP (Whatever that is) and you can sign in to all services together...... well so on and so forth just try I think you will like it.

4. Hold down the "end" key for a few seconds. This will disconnect the GPRS, and it's a lot more handy than having to use the stylus.
5. You can get the OZ messenger out of the ext rom from the original t-mobile ship rom. You might be able to find the cab for it on the FTP site, too.

Has anyone by chance found LVMTime.cab? Or does anyone know how to get the day and date back on one line rather than two? One of the autoinstall cab files for the new rom separated the day and date into two lines and took the time off the top dock. Right before the autoinstall starts when updating to the new rom, you can see that the day, date, and battery are in the right positions. After all automated updates are done, thats when everything gets scrambled.

My device is a QTEK 9100. I was upgrading from the ROM my device shipped with:
ROM 1.1.7.5 9/22/2005
Radio: 01.01.10
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
My carrier is TMobile, so I figured the xelencin TMobile custom rom that was built off of the latest QTEK would be a good bet for me. I ran the upgrade, letting it do the unlocking. The upgrade appeared to go smoothly, but when the device restarted, I didn't have an entry for my Radio ROM (GSM). I had a blank space where that would normally show. The device did the customizations and restarted, but still no Radio. No phone functionality, and it was very, very slow (5 seconds for any responses anywhere in the device). I could also not get an ActiveSync connection.
So, OK, no problem I think - I'll just go to bootloader and load the new QTEK 2.17 ROM - but then that one wouldn't load. I'm sorry, I didn't write down the exact error message, but basically it said I couldn't use the ROM on my device before it even really started to copy.
I had a pretty useless device at this point. I found someone who had a similar problem with a KJAM and this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=267616) and he said he was able to go to the TMOBILE 1.8.10.2 ROM. So, I downloaded that one and got that one to work. So now I am at:
ROM Version: 1.8.10.2 WWE
ROM Date: 12/10/05
Radio Version: 01.09.10
Protocol Version: 4.0.13.20
ExtROM version: 1.8.10.104
I'd still like to get to an AKU2 ROM. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any ideas?
pterodyne ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=267616 ) has since posted that he went to a later iMate ROM (2.16) and then was able to go the xelencin ROM from there.
Does this sound like a reasonable approach for me? Or should I just try the QTEK ROM or the xelencin ROM again?
Thanks for any help!

Another satisfied customer, as the flash went absolutely without a hitch on my MDA. Only one note or warning. I apologize if I missed this somewhere further up the thread, and I have since found a reference to it in another thread, but do NOT try to restore data, apps and settings from an SPB backup after flashing the ROM. Spb Backup actually warned me against restoring, because it recognized the flashed MDA as being a different device, but I ignored the warning and ended up with a device that booted essentially to a blank screen and then hung. After a hard reset using the CommMgr + VoiceRecorder button combination, I reloaded everything from scratch. Time consuming, but I'm back in full working order.

Problem solved. I would guess that vikramdhani is using the Registry Wizard program from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0). If so go to the TWEAKS2 tab and check the TASKBAR DATE/TIME option and select CLOCK. After the reset your bar should show the whole signal and the battery.

All you have to do use is crete nk.nbf and package your own boot screen nb/a into a ruu installer and you can install just the boot screen(s).

I've been patiently waiting for a new rom version to come out so I can make a new installer package, but since nothing seems to be happening I may end up making a revised / second version of my 2.17 rom install. There are a couple more registry tweaks that I would like to include with my ROM (such as removing menu animations, turning up cache sizes by default, storing IE data on memory card) and I may possibly even include additional software.
Do you guys think I should keep the rom in the lite state its in (the only third party software installed is pocket commander) or should I possibly include something more? What would you guys like to see?

I've been searching for ROM releases every couple of days and haven't seen anything new... I hope they have more planned.
In the meantime, your cooked ROM is great, and I like the idea of extra features and tweaks -- but if there's some reasonable way of making some of the tweaks discretionary that would be nice. Not sure everyone who can make use of the ROM will want all the specific tweaks you like to include.

If you do make a new version perhaps you could look at the sounds configuration? There seems to be an issue when changing from no sound/silent notification/sound in that the device forgets you want sound AND vibrate at the same time. I have reflashed my Wizard twice with this ROM and both times it has exhibited the exact same behavior.

I just got my MDA and haven't installed the update yet, but I think I'd prefer a choice between either
a. A "generic" ROM without many new additions save those that aren't easy to obtain on your own (like Java)
b. A "deluxe" ROM with new additions
I have no idea what the ROM build process is, but if you're feeling ambitious, maybe you could create an install-wizard-like app - with checkboxes, etc. - that automatically compiles a ROM including whatever software the user checked off.

Ok just found something else. When using modem link to establish a modem connection to the web from my mda, the modem link access point doesnot update nor allow me to change it. With t-mobile now uses internet2.voicestream.com as the access point for web use with the mda. it is a much more stable and faster edge/gprs connection. any insight on a fix?

Ok, just did my update. Way easier than I thought it would be - just run aWizard and follow the directions to backup the phone, then run installer posted at the top of this thread.
I haven't had the phone long enough to know whether the update is really faster or not, but I'll take everybody's word for it.:) There is more free storage (about 5 megs), and some more free program memory (about 2 megs), which is nice. What was it being used for before??
Total commander is way better than the included file browser - meaning it actually works like a PC's windows explorer in the details view as opposed to the icons view, and lets you resize the columns to your liking.
The right half of the battery icon at the top seems to be missing. Unless this is a very non-standard battery icon - I will try that date/time registry fix someone else mentioned in this forum.
Google maps crashes every time at different points, usually before I can do anything useful with it. This is from a fresh install with nothing else added save for google maps. I read somewhere that IBM's midlet manager works better with google maps - I might try that later.
I'll post more as I come across it, plus any fixes.

Hi, after updating to this ROM, I am having a very difficult time connecting to WiFi connections. Is this a known problem with this ROM? Anyone else have this experience? Anyone have a fix to this issue? Thanks.
I don't know if it was caused by the 2.17 update because I'd only had my phone 2 days before running it, but I did have a lot of wifi issues. Enabling 802.11g seems to have fixed it. Here is how to do it:
1. Add the following to the registry (the Total Commander included in the 2.17 custom should have a registry editor):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS:
DWORD dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
(Note that there is already a key in the registry called "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: DWORD dot11SupportedRateMask=1" - you should leave this alone)
2. Do a soft reset.
3. Go to your wi-fi settings -> Power Mode tab -> Best Performance (without this step wi-fi still didn't work for me)
Let us know if that works . . . it seems to have made a world of difference for me (I'm using a d-link DI-624 router with WEP encryption, for the record).
If you're reading xelencin, this might be a good thing to add to your next custom ROM (assumming people don't start reporting that it bricked their MDAs).

All good info...but PLEASE don't make "Best Performance" an automatic change in the cooked ROM. That will certainly eat the battery faster than the default (which is midway between "best performand" and "best battery", and for many of us the power boost is NOT necessary. I've been using the cooked 2.17 for week, did the 802.11g mod myself, and have my wireless LAN "power save mode" still in the default, center, position. Works BEAUTIFULLY in public hotspots as well as at home with my Belkin Pre-N router F5D8230-4. Good to document the tweak if somebody needs it, but I suggest that we shouldn't compromise battery life as a default, since this WiFi boost isn't a universal need...

If you don't remove the power tray icon it will be both in the tray and the taskbar at the top, why have 2? I just found out the new BT stack is available and I plan to add this to my next rom version.

This is incorrect. I work for T-Mobile and we are told to make sure customers use the wap.voicestream.com APN. If you do not use this APN your MMS will not work. Performance wise there isn't and shouldnt be any difference between the wap APN and the internet2/3 APN.

Will this new BT Stack improove A2DP quality ? mine seems to only stream in about 96kbps or less (lots of hissss). I had on my XDA II a BT stack hack that streamed A2DP at 192kbps... hardly no hissssssss at all.
If that is the case i am all exited for the new version you put together for us ! Thanks a bunch in advance :)

That's just my opinion, but I've been running your current custom ROM and it is great. A bit of memory leak, but nothing major. Taking advantage of some of the recent improvements would be great.
As for tweaks, instead of defaulting to some of the ones you mentioned, there is a program on here I believe called RegistryTweaks, which I used before I flashed with your rom. If it is still compatible and stable, I'd suggest including that in your build. It would allow users to more easily customize the tweaks they want. For any tweak not in that program, you could just default the setting to your liking, while leaving the others to the individual. Again, just my opinion. Also, tweaking the camera settings from the default to the more recent (and better settings) would be a happy addition.
Thanks for doing all this hard work. If ever in Phoenix, it would be my pleasure to buy you a cold one!! :D

Yup totally agree, two registry edits that come to mind that you could, outside of putting in nicodekker's Registry Wizard, are the gps icon (at least in my MDA the Reg Wiz option isn't working), and the wireless/bluetooth status today plug-in. Let's not forget levenun's LVMtime, personally I love that photo dialer today plug-in as well, but I'm not so sure everyone would like it.

That's not what it's used for, this displays a strip of selectable pictures from your contacts on your today screen, then you just need to click on your contacts face to initiate a call. Your lookin for something more along the lines of Photo Contacts Pro, don't know of any free app that can do what you want; although, I must admit haven't looked to hard. I use Photo Contacts Pro and it's pretty nice. It can show the incoming caller id in different sizes including full screen, try it out you might like it.

Wow I cannot believe I just read all 9 pages of this topic!! I recently got a Tmobile MDA and was looking for cool things to do with it. So far I have update the rom and install many applications. I am just trying out a whole lot of applications then seen which are stable and work and which do not. I have done so much with this phone it is incredible. I plan on doing a hard reset and reloading everything from scratch again with only the applications I have decided to be useful and stable. I will post a full report on everything I install at the end it hopes it helps. Currently I have made a list of bugs that were already posted on this forum and I have verified, not all of them are bugs more like things that change or don't work after updating rom to 2.17:
- password prompt not accurate (if you set it to 0 it will still prompt you after a minute and when I set it 15 mins it still wasnt accurate)
-"The other thing is the battery icon in the title bar. It obscures the date/time that i had displayed there." (to me this wasn't a big deal, i love using MS voice to ask it what time is it)
-"the only factory installed app that that i notice missing is the instant messaging package. ""it is in the old extROM called Signed_OZPocketPC.Cab." (I actually miss this feature as I use to use it but many have recommended Agile Messenger so im going to give that a shot.)
-A problem that I noticed many were having in this forum and no one posted a resolution to was the problem where some were unable to update the rom. You would start up the program and it would say do you want to unlock the phone then you say yes and nothing happens. Well I was having the same issue which was my computers protection blocking it for some reason. I disabled my Norton Antivirus, as well as the section that stops scripts from running and I also had to disable Microsoft Anti-Spyware then the install was successful.
- I saw a couple poeple complain about not being able to use the wifi after the upgrade but this did not occur to me. Wifi worked great! how ever I will do more testing.
If you think this is a lot of info I have a lot more and will probaly create a new thread so that newbies can have an easier time doing what they want to do. I still consider myself somewhat of a newbie I have only had this phone for less then 2 weeks but after spending hours on this site among others I have learned a lot more. I hope this helps

Does this ROM has A2DP and AVRCP? If not, what would it take to add it?
I'm currently using the QTEK 2.8 TEST ROM with the features I wish above. To change from WiFi to GPRS and back, I need to change the settings and soft reset. It's a hassle. How is this supposed to work with the TMO ROM? Can one just turn on WiFi and bam he's there?
I'm using TMO and their unlimited data plan with hotspots. This noobie needs advice.

Thanks for all the info olea, just in case if you want to get rid of the battery icon on the taskbar get LVMtime.cab, and if you want the battery icon next to the commanager find PowerTray.exe in the \Windows folder and place a shortcut in the start up folder, just in case you or anybody else find the info useful.
@ rambo6- there is a hack that enables A2DP I can't testify to it working cause I don't have a BT Stereo headset, but many if not all that have tried it said it works, as far as AVRCP not sure, but I don't think so, oh and as far as wifi goes, yeah, at least for me as soon as I establish a wifi connection my phone uses that instead of GPRS.

I also had a seamless upgrade. Just did it last night and things have been running nice and snappy since. Some of the little issues I was having are now gone. Thanks for a superb ROM!
Regarding WiFi -- I am having a problem with it. I'm not testing with a TMo hotspot, and I actually think that would work without any problems. But I can't just turn on wifi and automatically use my home network. I've tried everything that I could find and it just doesn't work. It works if I manually select my networks using the Connections advanced tab. But it doesn't switch between wifi and gprs seamlessly based on if wifi is turned on or not.
The following post has all the info about what I and others have tried to get seamless Wifi working:

My sincere appreciation goes to the creator of this ROM.
I just received my T-Mobile MDA today.
I put the Custom ROM and it's blazing fast.
Previously I had O2 XDA Mini S.
Even without installing the O2 stuff, this ROM is much faster than O2 AKU2 ROM.
Now I'm just waiting for Buzz to revise the Extended ROM unlocker to work on ROM version 2.
Once again, thank you.

Hey guys I'm new here, so of course I screwed up my MDA. I didn't do the 2.17 update I downloaded the RUU updater and updated the rom to 2.21 but then after all was said and done it told me DATA CRASHES. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SERVICE CENTER. What do I do now? Then I flashed it to the 2.17 thinking it was the Rom. Same thing happen. Then thinking I'll just download the original Tmobile rom the same thing happen. So now my MDA doesn't do anything. I can't find any signal nor can I make calls or connect to anything. What did I do wrong? Is the sim card supposed to be in the phone while update? Whats funny is when the sim card is out of the phone the error message goes away. I even used my wifes sim card and nothing....what can I do? Does anyone have the original Tmobile stock rom? I'm hoping I can send this MDA back since I've only had it for 3 weeks and they'll send me a new one. Please someone help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Same here. Tried to upgrade my friend's MDA and I got Data Crash error. After hours of downgrade/upgrade between the original and 2.17 it's still stuck on that error.
I wonder if there MDA has changed internally (sim lock code or somethign) that may have caused this.
I upgrade mine when mda came out and it had no problems. Strange.

I used wizbackup... it suggested I need to flash to 1.01 IPL,
I still have

GSM: 02.07.10
But I cant use any rom flashing stuff cause the 1.01 IPL is not working with AS at all.
When I send this to t-mobile what will happen? I can't even get the orig rom back on, I made a backup with wizbackup but it seems that they didn't think out the restore properly. the restore or my unawareness of some details has hosed my machine.
BTW IPL 1.01 and

whalien, it's really quite simple. I flashed mine successfully yesterday as well. Steps taken:
1) Read all 10 pages of this post. It's worth it to know what you're dealing with. I took notes.
2) Download the ROM
3) Sync with Active Sync
4) Double click the exe
5) UNLOCK phone first (if you've never flashed before)
6) Follow the steps that are on the ROM to the letter....really it's bulletproof in my opinion -- all you have to do is read what's on the screen and follow along.
My MDA was crashing 6, 7x a day with that horrid original ROM that I got from TMo. Gave up and flashed to 2.17 yesterday and it's the best thing I've done since I bought the phone. I'm back to enjoying it again!
Like having the "E" instead of the "G", since being in Phoenix it's always on Edge (at least 99% of the time for me).
Thanks to Xelencin for coming out with such a fantastic ROM release. You saved me from tossing my phone away on a desert hike :)

This ROM will work on your 8125, but I think after the customizations run, everything will be configured for the T-Mobile network. You can hard reset your phone (by holding voice-command and comm-manager buttons while pressing the soft reset button, and then keep holding the vc and comm buttons until it prompts to format the fat partition - let go of the buttons and press send). After it finishes formatting, soft-reset right before it does the customizations. I think you'd have to put in your own mail and GPRS settings after that. Or you could just install Summiter's custom 2.25 ROM beta, which is newer than this one. You can get it at the following link. It's based on a Cingular ROM, so it should work for you right after installing without any special configuration. You might want to read the topic HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51714&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=125) for updated info on it.

It's time to put this thread to bed everyone. A newer rom version is available AND there will be an even newer one within the coming weeks.

xelencin has it configured as a T-Mobile USA custom ROM. It shouldn't require any additional configuration. There are some cabs you can run to set it up for T-Mobile here (http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=8210&d=1142933927) and running them seems to get things right for working on T-Mo. Again, however, I believe xelencin's ROM is preconfigured, so I don't think you really need those cabs. And, like xelencin said, there's a newer custom ROM avail from him right now, (and hopefully the 2.25 coming shortly), so I wouldn't get too comfortable with 2.17 anyway.

What do you mean? Maybe I'm off... do you mean you can't download the zip file because of your rate plan? Can't you download it on your pc and unzip it, and then xfer the cabs over to your device? Or are you talking about something else?
