View Full Version : Cyberon Voice Commander 1.6 for Other Devices!

BeyondtheTech
27th March 2006, 08:19 AM
I found a copy of Cyberon Voice Commander 1.6 (not the crappy Voice Speed Dial) here and tried to run it on my Verizon XV6700. Not only did it mess up the hardware button configuration on my device - the program wouldn't run, saying that it's not supported on my device.

In looking further, I found out that the main executable was looking for the hardware ID string PU10 (for the Universal). I changed it to PA10A1, which is the ID for my XV6700 (Sprint users may be slightly different, I don't know), used the SignCode program here to re-sign the modified application, and it worked fine on my XV6700!

I found out that the HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand registry key was the reason my hardware button mapping was getting all screwy. I removed that registry entry, modified the VCStatic.INI file's HotKey entry, and the button assignment is working fine now. I just have to manually assign the Record button (or whatever you want) to "Voice Commander."

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Programs/Unsigned_cvc16-ppc-xv6700-usa.CAB

As I understand it, Sprint users with the new ROM update might have Voice Commander already embedded. I just thought I might give an alternative to Microsoft Voice Command and to Verizon XV6700 users who are still... waiting for their corresponding ROM update.

Do you think you would be able to modify this file to work on the 8125? I wouldn't mind "compensating" you in any way I can (I can offer some web hosting if you would like some).

Can you tell me what the model number is of the Cingular 8125?

For instance, the Universal was PU10, while the Apache was PA10A1. The program looks for that particular model number.

Not trying to push but my trial for Microsoft Voice Commander was up today and I want to know if I I should really spend the $50.00 or if this will work for what I need it to do.

Any news on the program?

I have a 6700 and have no issues running the microsoft voice command 1.5 with many bluetooth earpeaces. You need to install the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=7396 and then modify the registry. Take a look at the registry key HKLM\software\OEM\voicecommand and there is a subkey you can change from sddialer.exe to \program files\voice command\voicecmd.exe
Thats it. When you press on your bluetooth headset button you will hear the microsoft voice command chime. It works for me and it will work for you.

I have done that to my 8125 however it didn't work. I still have the same issue with BT not working until a reset.

Here is something I tried that is working for me...

Will this also work with a GERMAN QTEK 9100 ROM ? I have an MDA VARIO ( which is the HTC WIZARD ) - so the ID is the same.

I am basically interested in how much better Voice Commander is compared to the Voice Speed Dial.

I read something about an SMS Reader on the Cyberon Homepage - what does this do? Will it read out received SMS?

On the Homepage there is also a PDF I downloaded which states different language packs. From the naming of your .CAB ( usa ) I guess yours is only for english devices or used with the english language.

Anychance I can get a hold of the GERMAN Language Pack as well?

Best regards & thanks for all your effort!

Hoping someone can help. I was able to install this successfully, however it does not respond to the press of the BT button. I used the same hack used for MS VC, and while it does open it, it only opens once. Every subsequent time requires a press of a key. Further, with the hack it messes up the buttons again. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone have a fix for this? Cyberon VC is working fine (and I like it better than the MSVC) but the BT implementation is wonky. As above, it will launch from the headset exactly once, and then must be activated via a hardbutton on the phone. After attempting to launch from the headset a second time, it also leaves the audiogateway open.

The speeddial (sddialer) version works fine from the BT headset.

TO ID64, efjay:

Will you please be so kind to post a kind of short instructions how to convert/adapt any of the CABs posted here (unsigned WIZA200, unsigned XV6700) for other devices: like HERM200 (I have) or STAR100 (fowen has).

Some details of steps I performed and the questions raised:

1) I actually tried to do it by myself: I took WIZA200 cab (not installed), extracted it and tried to find WIZA200/Wiza200/wiza200 signature insude it, but failed. All I found is a test string sayg something like this: "Cyberon Voice Commander for Wizard 200 ...". I even tried to find string "wiza", but also failed.
2) Or should I patch program executable after installation on PPC, not a CAB?
3) If I need to patch CAB - how can I asemble it back after extraction and patching? I did not find anything like CAB archiever.
4) Do I need somehow sign/correct CRC of a file after patching? What should I use and when?

Thank you much for the help!

Ok I'm using WinCE cab manager to open and edit cab files. You have to make sure the files are directed at the right directorys.

Sorry I have delected the original 3 voice commanders I used to make the patched one. Bassically there is a russian version with a patched exe(no good unless you speak russsian or you just use the exe...). This patched exe can work with english version if you find some and try it in them.

Interesting stuff! Installed the all device hybrid from this thread and then updated the two files provided on this thread to bring it up to the newer version.

Works decently on my Sprint Mogul aka Titan...as long as I am not trying to use it with a BT headset. Voice Command does start when I press the talk key on my Jawbone just like the built in Cyberon Speed Dial app but that's where it ends. Using Voice Command with my Jawbone will not announce through the earpiece and will not take verbal commands through the earpiece. Reg settings? I dunno...I'm stumped. I'd like to get it working, very useful, especially the SMS and email readbacks.

I never installed it before so I thought that I ought to check before trying it with the new ROM

I just installed the Hybrid from the previous page and it does work on my mogul.

I installed it after upgrading to the latest Mogul ROM. Works fine as long as I don't try to use it with my BT headset (Jawbone). Fro my Jawbone I can initiate Voice Commander by pressing the action button on my headset and I can hear it ask for a command through the earpiece but it will not take any of my spoken commands through the headset. Disappointing.

Thanks rustoss!! You're awesome!!

I'll see if I can make it into a working cab, and I'll post it here.

UPDATE: Working cab file attached

The "Hybrid" version (see post #64) works great on the HTC Touch Enhanced (Elfin GSM)!

If you guys want to install newer build, you need to replace 2 files in the attached zip. Credit goes to rustoss and wassname.

I can confirm that the CAB + updated files posted previously works perfectly on my Touch Pro CDMA with stock ROM. In fact it works 1000 times better than MS Voice Command. MSVC slows my phone down and hogs ram, and crashes all the time. This is smooth as silk!

Does anyone know how I can disable the Text to Speech?
