Just bought this car kit http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109748 for my Qtek 2020i (Alpine)
Pretty comprehensive kit for the money. 8) Comes with control box, speaker, mic, loom for connecting to car stereo system.
I was wondering if there was any way to put the audio of TOMTOM or media player through the car kit ?
I have read about the 10K resistor mod which i tried with another active holder i have but that didn't seem to work
I thought there may be a utility that could fool the PDA into thinking it is in a call and sending the audio through the car kit, but when in a call all other audio is muted.
Are there any other work arounds getting TOM TOM / media player to output through the car kit?

Thanks

I upgraded my 2i to the latest official rom and when i put it in my cradle (looks the same as yours) I couldn't hear any tomtom directions unless i had the external speaker connected to the control box (haven't got mine wired into my stereo so don't know if the voice would come thru the car speakers).

I found that there was a slight delay on the instruction (cut off about the first 1/2 second) and that it kept losing the sat lock (using rikaline wired receiver) every 10 mins or so. Didn't try it with a bluetooth receiver.

The latest official rom wasn't for me (improved blackberry but i don't use it) and I reverted back to pugs one with the camera fixed and the o2 junk removed - now the voice only comes out of the pda's speaker but i don't lose the sat lock at all. There may be a registry hack that'll send the sound thru the speaker but I can't help you with that.

Not a lot of help. Sorry

How hard is it to upgrade ROM's for a beginner, done pc bios flashes b4, but this sounds more complicated.
Is there a fools guide?
are the official ROMS on here?

Don't know why that posted twice - sorry.

Before you upgrade rom backup your data (i use sprite backup and go to the advanced options to select "create self restoring" ones). If you're not worried too much about losing the data already installed then you can use activesync to create a new partnership (you'll have to do this anyway) and restore your contacts from there and any software previously installed.

You have to be careful with tomtom as I seem to remember that after a rom update it sometimes asks you to re-activate it and as you can only do it twice (i think) in 6 months you could end up playing email tennis with tomtom support.

The actual rom upgrade is easy ( I've never encountered any problems but use the search to read up on the procedure before going for it) - just remember to leave it in the cradle with the mains adapter plugged in as well and follow the instuctions.

The only minor hiccup i've had is that the rom upgrade wouldn't run first time round but just clicked on run again and it was fine - good luck

Yeah I have heard that about TT, I am a bit reluctant to upgrade the ROM, seen a few posts "pda dead after rom update HELP!!!"
Surely it must be doable without all the faffing, hopefully someone will know of a reg hack or a util that will do it!

Thanks for your advice.

You would have thought TT would automatically stick the audio out of the car kit

Had a look inside the car kit and it's micro circuitry tiny surface mount stuff!
That pretty much puts thying the 10K resistor out of the window. Too small for my big numb xxl hands
