YES!
I upgraded my O2 Exec to the new i-mate ROM and man.. it's like owning a completely different machine.
plenty of memory left ( i guess memory leaks were mostly fixed)
dazzling speed.
machine doesn't get stuck several times a day.
I am happy.
You have the official ROM. Search through it, I don't know in which thread I saw it, but the filename is: JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip
You should be able find it here using the search button.
Then you need to use a tool called maupgradeut_noid_645.exe
Also available here. It will allow to install the JASJAR ROM on O2 Exec. But I think your warrenty will voice.. unless you revert back to the O2 ROM which is downloadable from my-xda.com

From the link under i-mate in the wiki page for universal
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Upgrades
go to ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/
Get the file JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip. About 64Mb. Unzip the file twice & you will get the readme.doc file for the instruction.

I think I used this version (ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip) when I upgraded O2 XDA Exec to JASJAR rom. Didn't run into any problems :D

Here is the process as promised. There isnt too much too it so hopefully you will be able to understand my ramblings.
You need the Imate JASJAR rom file which I downloaded from
ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/Universal/Shipped_Complete_Updates/
The file that you need is JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip.
First thing to do is to extract the files in the exe. There are two ways you could do this.
You can do this by running the exe file this will extract the files into a temporary directory in your profile.. for example c:\documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Temp, look for a very recently created directory in there, don’t ok the error message that you get when you run the exe as it will delete the temporary files. Just copy the files out of the temp directory somewhere else.
OR
You can use winrar to extract the files from the exe. Extract all the files into a single flat directory. Remove all directory structures so that you are left with just one directory containing all the files. (didnt try this way but I presume it will work)
Then download this file
ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip
Extract the .exe in there to the same directory containing all your other files.
Then you need to make a small change to one of the text files. Look in the directory for
RUU.conf
Open it in notepad and add this line
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
then save it
That’s about it…..
Usual wavers at this point.. upgrading flash may lead to dead device.. do so at your own risk… invalidate warranty…etc etc
Once you have plucked up the courage connect your device up to Active sync and run the exe file that was contained in the MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip file that you downloaded.
It seemed to take around 30 mins for the whole update process.
Im just going through adding my applications again and setting up the Vodafone GPRS configuration but so far seems fine and push email works nice and fast so I am pleased I have made the change.

Hi jwarbutron,
Thanks for the walkthrough, Im following your instructions and have now started the upgrade.
I got past the screen where it tells me my current version numbers and what the new versions will be. I said OK, go for it, and now its displaying the 'Checking the information on your device .. please wait ..' screen, I presume I just wait for 30 mins or so and the upgrade is complete? There isn't a progress bar or another screen Im supposed to see?
Cheers

Unfortunately it didn't work for me, I left my phone plugged in for about 4 hours, it still just displayed the checking page, and now my phone wont start. :cry: Switching it on, I see some text in portrait mode saying usb at the top, and v1.00 at the bottom.
I'll dig around this forum to see if I can find a solution.

Just updated last night, and good grief the imate ROM is so much better.
Its much smoother, quicker and generally a much more pleasant experience.
Very much recommended to anyone who who has the Exec.

Well, my upgrade completed, but I still get the portrait page with USB at the top and v1.00 at the bottom. The upgrade said it had completed successfully, is there a step I have missed?

Did you press the Power ON/OFF Button and Reset Pin after the upgrade has succeded? It was stated at the last instruction.

I did, but I think that was actually the problem. I reinstalled the latest O2 ROM, and the final instruction was to hold the 2 minus keys and push the reset hole, which worked fine! 8)
So now Im using the imate rom!

Hi All,
i've tried this method, and all i'm getting is the 120 error message.
The handset is a UK O2 handset.
I've downloaded & used the JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship, which i thought was universal???
Does this update not cover the UK?
Aside of this is, there a vodafone ROM somewhere for the V1640? which i could use to update instead of this version.

Hey guys, seems like when I go to ActiveSync and add a new server, the settings just disappear (tried a few times and it never keeps the new server source!).
Anyone have the same issue? I am on the newest JasJar ROM.

Thanks for the guide jwarbutron. I installed the imate rom on my m5000. Followed your instructions to the letter, but on first attempt of upgrade it told me my device was was incompatible. However, I just re-ran the update program and this time, it did everything it should without a hitch. So, mine's a case of second time lucky! Any idea why it gave me that error the first time but not the second time?

Just a quick post to thank everyone here. I've just successfully upgraded my O2 Exec to to JasJar ROM and it is significantly better (so far).
Even if O2 bring out their version of the ROM upgrade, I don't see any need to use it unless it offers any more.

OK, I bravely followed the instructions as I wanted to upgrade my T-mobile (Netherlands although English language) MDA pro to the latest i-mate ROM.
The upgrade seemed to go fine with the instructions detailed, but when it finished all I got was the USB V1.00 screen.
I tried resetting using the 2 soft keys & the reset hole and I got the screen;
Press 0 to restore factory default
Press X to exit
Whichever I press, I go back to the USB V1.00 screen and nothing else.
Please help as I now have a very expensive paperweight!!!!

This is designed for an XDA-II, but it may work for a Universal:
Please find below the step by step guide to load your device with the latest ROM. Your Operating System files are corrupted and need to be reloaded again.
1. Make sure your i-mate Pocket PC is not connected to the PC
2. On your Desktop PC, open Microsoft ActiveSync, then go to File > Connection Settings > Remove the Selection from “Allow USB Connection… “
3. Make sure your Device is on Boot loader Screen* (start up screen)
4. Reconnect your i-mate Pocket PC to the Desktop PC using the USB Cradle and the Charger MUST be Connected to the Cradle ( Don’t use the IrDA for the Upgrade )
5. Run the Upgrade again and it will work fine without any problems
*Boot loader Screen – Hold the navigator button (round button in the middle of the answer/hang up buttons) and do a Hard Reset (Hold the power on/off button while pressing the small hole button on the bottom left of the device) simultaneously.
P.S.:-You would not need to get your device to the Boot loader mode because it is already on that mode
Hope this helps...
First of all, I would like to say - RESPECT - for all those hard workers like BUZZ, diggin in and helping us out in times of trouble.
I took soem serious reading before posting my first questionhere, however, even after all teh readings and experimetns on my device (QTEK 9000), I still cannot achieve the task I desire.
What I need is to upgrade the ROM. Currently I have:
R 1.04.02
G 42.37.P8
D 1.13.53 WWE
However, I cannot upgrade to the new ROM, since after initializing the process I keep getting error 120 Country ID code.
I have tried IMATE's and QTEK's ROMS, same error pops up
I have tried the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe with the same ROMS, same error even after adding CHECKCEID_TYPE=1 in conf file.
I suspected the unlicking the CID will help. I ventured to find a solution, but got nothing for my device. The options I got were, either use aWizard-V1_3beta2.zip or Lokiwiz02b.zip
However, neither worked. Both rendered a 0 kb .bin file, and error messages in the process. So I believe that Coutnry ID unlocking was not carried out successfully.
Do you guys have any ideas what I am missing, and if I am in serious confusion - can anyone shed some light on my problem ?
Thanks in advance to all :)

First, thanks for helping. I am in the USA with T-Mobile and a new 02 Exec phone. I am following the instructions posted on changing ROMs but things don't go the way they are explained it will go. I have downloaded both files and definately the right ones, but when I extract them they are still just one file. This file "JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.zip" just extracts as into one 64mb application file. My computer is set up to show all hidden files. I double click on it and it launches into an application to upgrade my ROM ( not change it completely.) It seems to be extracting some files at that time but I can't find them anywere else. After a couple screens it always ends with the "120 wrong country error code." A couple people have posted instructions to minimize that screen while it's running, but there is no minimize icon for me to minimize it. I have downloaded the other file "maupgradeut_noid_645.exe" It sits in the same folder with the other file.
I will donate $10 to this website for the help that leads to successfully changing my ROM.
Thanks again,
philby

Hi Tmglobe, I too was puzzled by this! At the time I was using winrar on my pc to extract compressed files but when it tried to extract files from the downloaded exe nothing showed, I then changed to winzip and the exe file then unpacks as expected!! Hope this was of help :)
Oddly enough, after posting my first post, I tried (yet again) to update my ROM. What happened was no different then before. However, after the device was rebooted, i saw "USB" in stead of "Serial" for the first time !!!
Bravely, I executed teh EXE again (device still attached to USB cable) and voila, teh update started, finished and now i am happy with the new much faster ROM.
thak everybody for their time and efforts once again.

I have all the files unzipped now into one folder.
These are the files I have after unzipping:
MaUpgradeUt_noID
ms_.nbf
nk.nbf
radio_.nbf
EnterBl
GetDeviceData
readme
ROMUpgradeUt
RUU.conf
RUU.dll
UI.dll
I made the change to the "RUU.conf" file.
Does it matter where you insert that file? I put it at the bottom.
I double click on the ROMupgradeUT.RUU which just leads me to the "120 wrong country error code." I have double clicked on the "MaUpgradeUt" file wondering if that the file people are saying to click on, but it still leads me to an error. Which file do I click on?
I am in the USA and hardly anyone else on this forum is. Do I need to change some setting to maybe England to trick the phone?
I haven't taken out my SIM card for this process. I haven't hard reset my PDA before trying to change the ROM.
I have had the phone in bootloader mode and executed the one of two files, but that didn't work. Bootloader kills the active sync connection.
Thanks again for anyone that can help. I will donate $10 to the website if the help from this website gets my ROM successfully changed. Like the reviews state the o2 ROM stinks. I can't believe all the soft resets I have to make all day long.
Thxs
tmglobe,
when you see the 120 country error code, have a look at the screen on your device. If it says "USB" and you are still conencted via ActiveSync, run the exe again, this should start the process and complete. This is why I was stuck too. Once I dared run the EXE again, I had no problem.
I have not country unlocked my phone. I was getting the same error and no tool to bust the country lock code - helped me.

When I get the error code, there is nothing going on with my device. It doesn't change or display anything during any time that I have been trying to change it's ROM.
It only changes of course when I put it in bootloader mode, but then active sync is disconnected.
Thanks for the help,
so no matter which ot the two EXEs you run, your device does not get rebooted with an inlit screen "USB" ot top and a "1.0.0" at the bottom?
and this is what you have in your conf file?:
[CHECKCEID_TYPE]=1
[PLATFORM]=857873
[RADIO_TYPE]=2
[SECURITY_FLAG]=1
[DECODER_KEY]=1
[RADIO_FLAG]=2
[GETADDR_TYPE]=1
[JUMPCODE_TYPE]=1
[FORMAT_TYPE]=2
[SCREEN_TYPE]=2

Hi - to those who have successfully managed to perform the upgrade:
I've finally managed to copy the new ROM (i.e. I get to the stage at which I'm told to reset the XDA), but I am unable to reboot it. Whether I try a soft reboot (i.e. just pressing the reset button) or a hard reboot (i.e. pressing the reset button while holding the - keys down), the XDA just returns to the USB v1.00 screen.
What type of reset did others (successfully) try? Any ideas?
Thanks
gcemo - i personally reset the device only from behind (hmmm, this sounds nasty) :)
tmglobe - you are not using a USB hub or anything, right? A simple USB cable from your PC to your device? Is your activesync 4.1 ?

great this work really well and so much better that o2 rom, except any attempt to active sync via cable gets blue screen of death on xp pc and the real problem is that any attempt to install a new rom cannot be completed because you need to active sync and this causes bsod.

Thanks all for giving some help. It was figured out that my maupgradeut file was corrupted and that was simply why my ROM upgrade wasn't going smoothly.
