Can some one please tell me, in simple English, how to stop the backlight going out when you start Tomtom with windows 2005. :? Thanks

Take a Hex-Editor with Unicode-Support
Load TomTom.exe and search for the Unicode-String 'Backlight'
Replace all matches with 'Bbcklight' and your Backlight stays on!

Well, its a unicode String. Try searching for "B a c k l i g h t" including the spaces. I can attach mine to this post. Its from die European Version 5.21 - Upgrade to 5.21 first or it won't work. I'm not sure about it working with American or Australian Maps, somewhere I heard the software is a little different in other continents.
Known Bugs of this Release:
-Skips Map Activation
-The file '\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.dat' is not created at first startup. Just copy the attached file to this location(Create the Directory if neccessary, of course)

I'm having the same problem.
That file that was meant to fix the problem doesn't work on my pda. I am running tomtom navigator version 5.00
Is there any other file I can use to fix the problem?

Hai,
It absolutely works.
When you search with your hex-editor for backlight, try to seach as "textstring" with AND wthout "unicode Latin" + with AND without "Case snsitive search".
Now you can find all the "backlight" strings. I have changed every B for a C and saved the file. Then copy the Navigator.exe back to your PDA and voila: Tomtom leaves the backlight as it is.
