Host WLAN collapses when connecting Wizard via USB, HELP

I synchronized my wizard previously only with my notebook using USB, this worked ok.
Now when I connect my Wizard via USB it synchronizes and alll, but WLAN on my host computer breaks totally! Even after disconnecting I can't get it running, it connects for a second, then disconnects. I have to reboot to get it usable again...
Any ideas? I am stuck here.

ps. One thing to note is that when connecting my wizard for the first time, it did not work out of the box. I had to search for RNDIS, drivers to be supplied with active sync I read.

I read recently where they figured out that it was the wlan drivers on the laptop that was the culprit. By chance do you have an Intel 2200BG wlan card or chipset? If so, you need the 9.0.4.8 version drivers. Even the version 10 stack has the same problem as the older ver sion 9 drivers.

If you have version 10.X of the driver and intel pro software connection manager, uninstall them and go and download http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?&DwnldID=10112&ProductID=1784
and install it. It is the 9.0.4.8 wireless driver and accompanying Intel Connection Manager.

yeah, I got Intel 2200GB by chance :-) but I also already got 9.0.4.8 :-( shit!
Maybe I'll have to deinstall it once again. I deacativated some windows stuff folling an advice from here, but it did not help either... (http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm)

Hi!
Just a question to understand your problem... Why do you need a WLAN when your device is connected to Active Sync?
AS 4.x builds up an additional Network. If you do an ipconfig /all on your notebooks dos-prompt you'll see this. Your notebook now is your default gate for IP-traffic. Yur device now uses your computer as a sort of proxy for any kind of network connection.
If your WLAN wouldn't be 'disabled' your device now would have two default gates which be confusing it ;-) I suppose why the developers simply disabled any other networking stuff except AS. BTW if you have a look into your PPCs connection manager you'll notice that Wireless isn't disconnected at all, just the router connection is 'sleeping'. When you disconnect USB wireless immediately comes back to life...

What version of ActiveSync do you have? 4.0 had some problems that 4.1 was SUPPOSED to fix.

What he is saying is that whenever he connects his device to sync it, his LAPTOP wireless connection is killed, rendering him without internet for his laptop to become a proxy. Once this happens, it is difficult or aggravating to be able to activate or enable the wireless afterward.

well now it works, but I have to redo this after soft resets...
is this problem known, who is to blame for this, intel, microsoft, htc?

This fix worked for me. I was running 9.0.3.6 (I think) of the Intel 2200BG drivers. I noticed that connecting my T-Mobile MDA to my laptop's USB port not only killed my laptop's WLAN connection, it also killed my wife's connection on her laptop. So whatever was happening, it was taking out my router (a Netgear DG834G). I'd have thought a wireless client shouldn't be able to do this and that there should be a patch for my router, else this little feature could be used maliciously...

If you can remember the link to the article you read, ipaqkiller, I'd be interested to read it.

Finally thanks to this CAB I can use my phone properly and sync with it. :lol:

I use my laptop over a USB wireless adaptor and it always killed it. Could only get it to work again with a system restore.

If someone could amend the CAB to make Serial the default that would be the final solution as I could potentially still kill the connection after a soft reset
