I have an XDA Atom ROM 20051129B2 and like many others would like the T9 phone pad from the Imate on it.

I have the smart dialing installed and that gives me the phone pad in dialing but i am after the Input T9 phone pad for txt message, the keyboard is too slow!!

i've read different posts but none seem to address what im after, did try installin the Russian version posted elsewhere here but that didnt work.

Anyone have any ideas where i can get a copy of the HTC Phone Pad to run on the XDA Atom?

Cheers and many thanks

On buttons should be both Russian and English letters. But if you have changed Russian on English, at pressing buttons of a word there should be English. But if it has not occured, try to remove Pone Pad and instal again

Is the AKU 2.2 means the ROM 20060426B1WWE? Yes I am on that latest ROM. I tried hardreset and reinstall again my programs including the PhonePad. My icons at SPB and Phonepad is working fine until I install MS Voice Commander. I think the culprit is the VC, still I'm not sure.

Hi,

This is a great tool and exactly what I was looking !

Only one problem, the key pad seems to lag behind and keep missing some of the keys when I'm typing SMS. E.g. whenever I type "you" very often it came out to be "ou" without "y". It seems the response of the keypad is so slow that it missed out the first character.

Not sure anyone else is encountering the same issue. Is there any tuning or tweaking to improve that?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi all
I've installed this program (phonepad_atom_wwe.cab) onto my atom exec and it pretty much works with no problems. I use it regularly now, it is invaluable. However, there is one thing I would like help with from somebody who is more of an expert at this stuff than me.... i can't even get a regedit to work

for some reason I need to softkey sound to operate the phone pad correctly... i think it is because i need some sort of response from the machine since there is no tactile response that the button's been pressed. however the default beeping noise is driving me nuts. i want to simply change it to the clicking sound that comes with wm5.

if anyone can help me with this, send me a cab file or something it would be invaluable.

Thanks all.

In regards to changing the sound when you press a button, you can turn the sound off in the input options in control panel.

In terms of changing the sound, I've tried putting in strings "wave" and "sound" in the registry under the appropriate folder, and it doesn't work, doesn't change the sound. i can't seem to change the name of the wave files in the windows folder, can i do it with any other program, and will that adversely affect any other programs?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, The "phonepad_atom_wwe.cab" version works perfectly on my HP iPaq rw6828! It's fully functional in English and I have found that my pda is finally like using a normal mobile phone to send texts!

The "phonepad_t9_atom.cab" gave me language issues as it would not change from Russian back to English.

I have tried about 6 soft keyboards and Phone Pad is the best!

About Phone Pad:
Phone Pad Input (for Pocket Pc)
Version 1.0 (Build 18526)
High Tech Computer Corp

About my rw6828 ROM (this is the latest ROM frlom the HP website):
ROM Date: 06/10/25
ROM Version: 1.01.03 WWE

I have included both cab files in the attached zip in case I have confused the versions above. I actually installed both (one over the other) as the 1st one was in Russian.

Cheers,
Shaun

All the contacts are on the Atom memory, not on the Simcard, and when I use the smartdialer and the contact has more than one number it only shows me one of them. My friend has a XDA mini and it let him choose through a drop list wchich number he wants from a single contact

Just a quick note to anyone who might be having some reservations (like I did) about installing phonepad_atom_wwe on your new Atom Exec - I've followed the instructions from members here and it works fine! Am really thrilled to see that lovely familiar keypad that I'd gotten so used to in my old O2 Mini.

This is what I did:

1) Download the .cab file onto PC desktop.
2) Explore your Atom via ActiveSync, and drag the .cab file into Programs. (I guess you could also put it into somewhere else provided it isn't the Memory Card). Correct me if I'm wrong please! :)
3) Go to File Explorer in your Atom, search for the .cab file that you've just dragged into your device.
4) Tap on it and let it install - and voila! Should see the Installation Successful message.
5) I did a soft reset before trying it - just in case.

What an extremely useful tool. Beats the free Infrared keyboard that came with my Atom Exec anytime!

Hope this helps other not-so-savvy PPC users like myself. :D

me too, still looking for patch but no avail. my workaround is try launch phonepad b4 u go into SMS (Messaging). for instance, if u r using transcriber, then go to Start>Programs, change it to PhonePad. once done, then launch ur sms apps.

I've tried your solution, but with no success..

The PhonePad works with english but not with german.
I change the laguage to german and it writes in english!?!?

After softreset the phonepad doesnt work anymore...

Is there another T9 program out there?
Or is the phonepad the ONLY solution for pda's?

chrisonline
6th February 2007, 09:54 AM
I have a solution and it works for me...

1)Switch off any devices like WiFi, Bluetooth, and for the moment disable any start-up applications (from starting) - To minimize system memory usage
I have done it with SPB Pocket Plus. It can disable any start-up application becuase it starts in "safe-mode"...

2)Remove CF and SD storage cards - There have been some bugs reported for storage cards where they may drain system resources if too many applications are loaded on the cards.

3)Select the default keyboard as the default input method - To temporarily prevent other input methods from being the default method

4)Soft reset the device

5)Open an application like Notes/Word

6)Select Phone Pade as the input method by clicking on the screen's bottom right icon's arrow and selecting Phone Pad from the list of available input options.

7)You should be able to use Phone Pad in all other applications as well as switching on WiFi and the start-up applications.

For me works fine, after soft reset !!!

Please try this solution.... and give us feedback!!

Greetings chrisonline

once installed (do not perform a soft reset), go to "Settings", "Input" and select Phone Pad then its "Option". Disable the sound function from the menu.

For some, once reset, the Option will become disable and not accessible.

By the way, this keypad works well with HP RW6828 :)

Hi,

I've tried the various phonepad downloads for my O2 Zinc but none would work.

It only one that worked for a while was the wwe one. However, it only works if nothing else is installed, and even then, not always. Whenever when I install the O2 programs and SPB Plus, Weather, Time, it would stop working.

I can still see it as an option but I only get the normal keyboard.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

What do you mean by not working ? If it is installed correctly and you see it in the options but it does not pups up, what you have to do is go to: Settings>Input, select phone pad, and under options you have to select what you need. I hope this work for you.

Put the CAB-File to the PDA via ActiveSync.
On the PDA you must click the CAB File and the installation starts on the PDA.

Do not unzip the file... the file is an CAB-File.
See my post over your post how to install...

Hi
Can it be: are Albert and I the only ones that want to change the sound???
Or is there a solution to the problem, that has escaped me???
Regards
Søren
In regards to changing the sound when you press a button, you can turn the sound off in the input options in control panel.

In terms of changing the sound, I've tried putting in strings "wave" and "sound" in the registry under the appropriate folder, and it doesn't work, doesn't change the sound. i can't seem to change the name of the wave files in the windows folder, can i do it with any other program, and will that adversely affect any other programs?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Albert

Hi, newbie here just joined today. I just bought a HTC Touch Phone today and it doesn't have the T9 Phone Pad for input. Searching for this program lead me to this forum.

Just want to thank Geo77 for providing the cab file. I was able to download the program and it's working fine with my HTC Touch Phone.

Nice job man.:)

Hi, I've installed the phonepad and it works the first time round, but after i installed afew SPB products it failed to work. I then uninstalled SPB diary, and the phonepad immediately worked again, but after the end of the day it failed again.
---> is it just a minor software glitch that could be tweaked?

This is an issues unsolved for very long already. The problem is that anything that install on the today screen will "eat up" resources that conflict with SIP and not just this phonepad. So either you reduce the nos of today items or reduce the nos of SIP used. Btw spb product is great in all expect but memory and resource hungry. If you wan to keep the diary you should try the latest 2.5.5 version which is lesser hungry. OR even better you can try todayagenda, its much simpler version with no tabs but very very low resource needed!! :)

Cheer!!

Hey Jeremy,

I've attached the English version of the XDA Atom T9 Phone Pad however would highly recommend that you use the new HTC Touch Keyboard. You can choose between a standard QWERTY layout or one similar to a phone keypad, where each key contains three letters, making its size even bigger.

I have tried most of the keyboards on the market but I can safely state that I believe anyone who tries the new HTC version will feel the same as me!

i have been using O2 Atom Life for a big while, and never bothered to use phone pad until i signed up for unlimited text messaging. to my surprise, my phone did not come with phone pad as i couldn't find it under my input.

i downloaded the cab posted in post#10 on page#1, copied to my phone, then double clicked to install it. It worked! Now, I really do enjoy texting alot. Thanks to all the posters who shared all the information here!!!

the HTC touch keyboard is much better from the atom.cab bcoz it has wider keypads and has an option in the keypad wherein you can input directly to the the message you're writing. i installed it by saving the file via 2GB kingston micro SD with adaptor and saved it to device. i uninstalled the atom phone pad from hp ipaq rw6828 first before installing the HTC Touch Keyboard. both keypads works fine when i tried them one at a time. its up to you which one you'll like.
thanks shaun for sharing the info & the file.:):)

Does this work on WM 6.5 on O2 Atom. Running Atom with WM6.5 ROM CE OS 5.2.21501 Build 21501.5.0.7.0 Khoa_Ha . Are they compatible?
