I recently got my MDA Pro, and it didnt have msn or outlook preinstalled (or anything else for that matter!).

I just tried installing Skype, and that didnt work, and i'm now wondering if t-mobile have deliberatley cripped the device in some way?

Either way, it's annoying, and i can't be bothered to pay $20 to download MSN mobile, when i should really have it pre-installed :/

If i install the latest T-mobile ROM, does that come pre-installed with those apps?

Can someone recommend me a decent fast ROM that would have all that included?

Thanks!

Try Agile Messenger. Works well enough.

$20 to d/l MSN Mobile? Good God.

With regards to Skype though, be careful:

T-Mobiles new web and walk unlimited tariffs are "not to be used for other activities such as modem access for computers, internet based video/audio streaming services, peer to peer file sharing, internet based video download and internet based telephony."

Which rules out, oh, 75% of what I'd like to do with an unlimited tariff. How companies get awawy using the word unlimited in advertising is beyond me. My company, O2, is no better - our unlimited data tariffs is limited to 1Gb. I could do that in a few days. Our unlimited talk tariff is limited to 10'0000hours. Who's gonna do that? Why even muck around with an artificial limit?

I've just gone to the IRIS site and downloaded apparently the newest ROM for T-Mobile UK. Which it states is the factory version.

On running the update it tells me that this will upgrade me to:

CE Image Version - 1.20.32
Extended Image Version - 1.20.120
Radio Image Version - 1.06.00

But it tells me that my CURRENT version is:

CE Image Version - 1.12.42 - NEWER
Extended Image Version - 1.12.126 - NEWER
Radio Image Version - 1.00.02 - OLDER

What do I do?! What's better newer CE Image/Extended Image, or a newer Radio Image version??

Was that UNI_TMUK_12032_120_10600_Ship, from: http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/download_manager_mda_pro.html ??

I think my ROM is from the early jurassic era? :

ROM Version: 1.12.42 WWE
ROM Date: 08/23/05
Radio Version: 1.00.02
Protocol Version: 42.33.P8
ExtROM Version:1.12.126 WWE

Nope, that's the same version as mine... well yeah, it is old, but all but the Radio version is NEWER than this update that T-Mobile have on their site... I'm confused...... :-\

Weird :/

Well can someone please put me/us out of my/our misery and confirm or post a link to the newest T-mob ROM? :D (is there a specific UK version?).

Also could someone list some major differences with the newest ROM and my current!? I'm a little baffled as to why most of the decent apps (Outlook/MSN) Aren't installed on the MDA by default :? (I'm assuming it's because they want you to TXT instead of instant message, and use THEIR e-mail service instead of 3rd parties?)

Anyway, i'm REALLY anxious to update my ROM, thanks guys :)

Is anyone currently using this ROM, if so, does it have MSN & Outlook on it?

(I'm assuming it'll already have the correct t-mob GPRS/3G network config?)

Thanks again.

I am running that Rom, and I can confirm that it does have MSN, but as I am using Pocket Informant I don't know about Outlook

Hi

Thats a pain... I am on a pre 'unlimited' web 'n' walk tariff with 12 months left to run :-( !!

T-Mobiles' latest rom is dark ages stuff. I wonder if they will ever bother to update it?

Not sure what you are getting at ? isn't "20" newer than "12" ?

The ROM update is great, it's added:

- MSN Messenger/Hotmail with Pocket MSN
- Lock Today plug-in, which gives you a keylock like the menu * on Nokias.

As far as Outlooks concerned, I don't know what people mean, it has the Outlook Email, that it used to have before in the Messenging Section.

Well worth an upgrade!

I never backed any of my settings up like that, the only thing I backed up was contacts/calender etc via ActiveSync; and I have all my settings intact, so you should be safe with that bit :-) The only thing I couldn't figure out how to save were my SMS/MMS messages :-(

Were the T-mobile server settings pre configured, and does it 'look' (visually) the same as the previous T-mobile ROMs?

Gavin01
18th April 2006, 05:29 PM
Yes it looks exactly the same.Only with the pocket msn included

Is there any better roms to download from the ftp?

The t mobile guy gave me this website and said to download a different rom for better performance as the t mobile branding slows it down.

I think he had used a imate rom image, as he had imate as his background picture

Ive seen them all under the ftp but am not sure which one to go for.

You post at OCuk dont you? :D

+ Yeah, i'm trying to decide what ROM to get as well, i don't really want to get an imate ROM, if its going to put loads of imate branded stuff all over it :/
