Asukal

whats language you want to get?
using this rom or CAB files with English ROM?
Is your font in your Device or ROM?
i tried text message in Japanese, Chinese, Korean. Thai Languages in this ROM
How about with check the unicode option?.
Also encoding of IE and e-mail enabled?
SMS doesnt need some encoding if the SMS service center support that.
<but almost of them suport it, within my knowledge>

I want to get Traditional Chinese on my Vodafone V1640. I also have a T-Mobile SDA (on O2 UK) which has nina.ttf installed but it doesn't show all the characters (i.e. I still get some squares) which is why I want to try to get Chinese on my V1640.
The ROM is the latest i-mate WWE ROM.
I have a T-Chinese font (don't know the actual name of the font but it is definitely no included in the Chinese Windows) placed in the Windows/Font folder, but does it have to be a specific font (like MingLiu? it's quite big though)?
I forgot where the unicode option is. Encoding options in IE and E-mail are available (I can choose the language), but IE still can't display Chinese, despite the change in the encoding option.
Please help.

1; used my CAB right?
this can install wince.nls and enabler for the nls files.
Text message need the sytem font to discribe your languages.
so it means chinese font should be register as "System font"
you have never done that., i guess so.
Ok following the sample of font registry for Mingliu font.
1;way 1 <with the cab in this page>
import this with registry editor and put the Mingliu into windows folder.
and make soft reset, then you can solve all problem.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\Sys temLink]
"MingLiu="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"PMingLiu"="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Courier New"="\\windows\\mingliu.ac3,PMingLiu"
"Tahoma"="\\windows\\mingliu.ac3,PMingLiu"
2:way 2 <without the cab in this page>
Or you install my chinese enabler CAB.
(but you must uninstall previouse cab befor install thia\s)
http://www.asukal.jp/English/LocalizeCABS.htm
PLS go to the bottom of above page, then dl for the cab you wantt.
cab should be "for the WM5"
those were included registry and font. not mingliuy but chinese font in it.

I use the PHM Registry Editor. Do I just create new "String" values? Also, do I have to create the location in the registry as it isn't there?
The font file is named HDZB_74.TTF by the way.

1:write your registry with text editor and save it as xxxxxx.reg file.
the head of registry need "REGEDIT 4"

It may be solved by a registry tweak.
It is an old issue between the customers and the sponsor of I-mate. We have been seeking a convenient free solution to the right-to-left problem for a long time.
Anyway, I don't think the problem is from the font.
There is an example of a left-to-right text on the following link (the flash on the right side). http://www.imaginet-software.net/index.aspx?p=arabizer

Hi Asukal,
I wanted to try your stuff at http://www.asukal.jp/English/LocalizeCABS.htm
But my storage on my unit is limited, that's why I'm not able to get the 10MB+ font into my \Windows directory.
So, I tried your other method. I've tried your CAB (FotgottenNationsNo5.cab) on my WM5. And I've use the FontsOnStorage to put the font (mUnifontM.ttf) onto
\Storage Card\Fonts\mUnifontM.ttf,mUnifontM
And edit the registry accordingly. The FontOnStorage works alright, I can see it on the PPC Words, but the encoding is not working on any other places (e.g File Explorer, Contact, Windows Media Player)
Anyway, I'm wondering if there is a smaller fonts for Chinese Simp or should the register be written differently if I were to be using FontOnStorage?

While answering a mate's SOS, here

Another fellow mate come out with a solution that works great on my WM5
Details here
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=67386
Instructions (From page above)
(1) Go here and download the CE-Star Zip file (http://www.mobem.com/download/index2.php?pro=suitewm5)
(2) Unzip the zip file downloaded, look for the file `sunglobe.ttf` file (3-4MB in size)
(3) Copy this font file into your Windows directory
(4) Install the CAB attached here (to change the registry).
- switch on/off your device (WM5 needs time/delay to really write into the registry) and/or wait for a while before doing a soft reset.
I'm able to view chinese on my contacts, wmedia player, file explorer. Now I need a SIP.
UPDATE: I've got a nice SIP from Asukal here. Thanks man :)

Hey Asukal
I installed the cab file and copied the fonts I need (Hindi and Telugu). In IE, I can see hindi in BBC site but no where else. Also in BBC site, I am unable to see some english text. I tried unicode.org test pages for hindi and telugu but I can't see them. Did I miss doing anything?
I don't want to type in the indian languages but just want rendering. I create applications and want to localize them to indian languages. I wrote a small test application in .net compact framework with labels in the languages I want to see in my device. And I can only see boxes.
By the way I am testing all this in the emulator and want to see it working. Then I can do it in my wizard (not universal).
I thought your cab file will replace the existing wince.nls file in Windows folder. I found it to copy the file to Temp folder rather than replacing. I manually replaced the file but still it doesn't work.
Can you please give me any idea?

Hi Asukal,
Could you tell me how to add/modify wince.nls?
I want to add my language/regional setting in it.
thanks
to add and del location(wince.nls)
i explan, i dont have any way to create the wince.nls itself.
But you can build OS with PB and take wince.nls from OS files from
work space of PB in your PC.
No need biuilt OS work or not. just create OS at randam.
But you must add the location to that OS with PB option.
Then you can get your customized wince.nls.
So some Location which PB doesnt have, you can not add.
Vietnamese, Hindi,,,,i remember PB doesnt have Encode and Location,
Sorry i am traveling Europe and no PB in my notebook.
so can not discribe which command can be adjust the wince.nls now.
Menu and Option....i think.

I forgot to tell you all and i will do now

Dear Asukal,
Thanks for your explaination.
Never use PB before.. and it's too big for me to download :(
I think I just edit wince.nls in my WM5. I replace a localization that is already there with mine. I replace English Australia localization to my country.
The problem I got is when I replace the name of the month.
in English it is "August" I change it to "Agustus". Here the length of the character is longer by 1 char. So I can't add char 00 to separate them. The result it will display "AgustusSeptember" for month August. But for month September, it will correctly display "September"
I guess in wince.nls there is some kind of address table for the OS to read the beginning of the month data. I wonder where it is.
Does anybody know the structure of wince.nls?

it its for quite some time now that i am trying to "teach" my universal the hebrew language.
I started by copying several hebrew fonts to the fonts directory under windows so after a soft reset i could see hebrew words under sms, MMS, pop3 email accounts and hebrew websites in mobile internet explorer. ( i copied the following fonts : arial, times new roman, courier, david and tahoma+tahomabd total of 2M in size).
the second issue is to be able to see the sentences in the right way, meaning to align the words and sentences to the right (hebrew is written like arabic from right to left).
in the pictures you posted in the begining of this thread you show a hebrew website however it has this problem of being written aligned to the left instead of to the right so actually it is wrong - i took this picture and i explained in the attached picture how it should be, as i understand you do not know hebrew.
could you guide me or give me some hints on how should this problem be fixed ? is it a registry value? maybe a certain dll should be made to patch the OS?
thanks for any help, yol.

Well, i think giveing up is surely no the way. and apparently tere is a way ar eyron and pdac did find it. i am now starting to study this matter and i am about to recieve a developing pack from microsoft for WM5. i know it will take me some time but i take it as a challange and my purpose is to be able to read and write hebrew without changing the interface language (leave it in english i dont like the hebrew interface). one thing is for sure - if i find a way, if will share it with everyone for free.
i would be glad to hear what you have found till now on this matter (if you are willing to share it).
thanks again.

Eyron put wince.nls (size = 167kB). They put in Hebrew, but remove Cyrillic KOI8 and Cyrillic ISO.
On HP hx2490, I install Eyron and after that I replace Eyron's wince.nls (166kB) with your wince.nls (2.31MB) and I have hebrew and russian working together very well (see picture). So Eyron and your code pages support do stay together on iPAQ.
The same procedure on Dell X51v, kills hebrew encoding. I get all Cyrillics, Chainese, Japanese etc., I can type in hebrew, but I can't see hebrew sites.

can encode correctly on Dell?
i will check the font link registry and wince.nls logic.
pls export registry of font link from dell with hebrew localizer,

@i heard Dell doesnt need usemynls.exe to read wince.nls.
just repaced that in windows folder to read.

Hi every body :)
I would like to thank you Mr. Asukal for this great job ..
I have tried it on my device (eten 600m) for Arabic encoding and it doesn't work
I personally believe that its a matter of Right to Left supporting for Arabic rather than only encoding support (and i think Arabic encoding is already supported in WM5 - but not sure :o )
What do you think Mr. Asukal .. :)
thank you once again ..

:( It doesn't work. I don't see any hebrew, no chinese, no japanese.
It looks like it cannot load your file and loads the original one from ROM (attached). I see only the basic set of encodings.
I attach the original wince.nls from the Dell's ROM.

Thak you very much.I am so much in WM6 that I overlooked this thing.
Correct me but here is what I think this ROM is about..
It enables Uni to browse internet pages which are in the regional language or fonts?
Anything else?
I tried flashing my Uni with the provided package but it stuck at the bootloader ..tried 3 times.
There is one file RuuEnc.dll missing.
So I added it in the package and succeeded.
Anyone faced same problem?

hi, i had created wince.nls(national localize system file) with Platform Builder (free evalutation version is enough).
select a option to add or del the locale with menue.
then start to build OS. after finished building,
go to folder the builded resources in it and try to find wince.nls.
Dont care what kinds of OS you will build after follow its wizard, also dont care you can see the error&terminated buid os.
You may able to find wince.nls in folder.
but unfortunately, malaysia isnt exisit in that option.
I tried to make wince.nls in manuary with nlscomp.exe from nls.ini (those are contained in Platform Builder). but after thet, i have stoped to play wm without succesfull ithttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.
i dont think this message can help you.:http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
