View Full Version : 2 NEW ROMs WM5 (Microsoft BT stack) based on namaich ROM
I have cooked two completely new WM5 ROMs based on namaich ROM.
One in WWE:
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/BA_WM5/Shipped_Extracted_Updates/WM5_ArtZ/WM5_ArtZ_WWE.rar
and the second one customized for France:
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/BA_WM5/Shipped_Extracted_Updates/WM5_ArtZ/WM5_ArtZ_FRA.rar
I hope you will like them ;-)
EDIT MDAIIIUser (links corrected)
Notes about these releases
__________________________________________________ ________
This version is based on "BA_5.1.1700_build_14343_Upgrade_V3_by_mamaich" ROM. I have used the original package and rebuild completely this version from that point. It's really a clean version and all modifications have been already tested successfully in TuMa's and Ivan's versions.
In fact, I've been using Ivan's 4 R1 version with Widcomm BT stack, but I find this version "dirty", because many Microsoft BT stack parameters are still in the registry and I found some keys were missing (intentionally?).
Personally, I don't see the interest of using Widcomm BT stack over a version built on Microsoft's... so I decided to go back to the original BT stack. Well, I don't use a headset but I use BT to connect my BA to the audio system in my car and TomTom Navigator 5.21 at the same time. I don't have any problem with this issue.
I find WM5 runs not as fast as WM2k3 on BAs, but I cannot see really an overall difference between Ivan's release and this one.
Do not hesitate to make your comments.
Briefly, I've done the following of changes:
-New Camera 2.3 version,
-New Pocket MSN version,
-SPCS is now disable by default,
-Extended_ROM is on your SD Card and supports AutoStart,
-GPRS disconection settings, WiFi fix, Buttons Fix, Headset Today, CarKit camera patch, Speed Settings (cache and flag values),
-Registry have been cleaned (ordered and double entries deleted) and version numbers have been added
HowTo install this new version
__________________________________________________ ________
1.- Copy the folders "\Extended_ROM" and "\Tools" in the root of your SD Card
2.- Launch "\Tools\DOC_Tool_1.0.exe" from your SD Card to to get extra storage space under WM2005 (31Mb). This change IS reversible with "DOC_Restore_1.0.exe"
3.- Launch WM5 upgrade
You're done!
When our BA will start, it will automatically install all the CABs located in "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM", though you must validate each CAB.
Some CABS will propose you to "Restart". Click on "Cancel" to continue the Setup. Your BA will automatically restart at the end of the process.
Notes about Extended_ROM
__________________________________________________ ________
I recommend you to install at least these CABs in the \Extended_ROM directory:
"\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Album_BA_AKU26_RC23_Midi.cab"

am i connecting to the wrong port?
NO : port 21 it's right.
Maybe your personal firewall? If you have installed one, try to disable it before connecting.

Hi,

Hi guys,
According to a few post on xda-developers ( there's a very interesting post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45846&highlight=cachesize by TuMa) and wiki.xda-developers, I have used the following parameters to speed up (cache settings) our BA in my ROM:
Registry entry: 0x00001000 (=dword:1000)
Number of sectors: 4096
Cache in kilobytes (KB): 2048
as follows
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"CacheSize"=dword:1000
"Flags"=dword:10046
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:1000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:28
"DataCacheSize"=dword:1000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:10056
"DataCacheSize"=dword:1000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:14
"DataCacheSize"=dword:1000
but after doing further tests, I have the impression that reducing
CacheSize to 1024KB my BA runs faster and smoothly.
Registry entry: 0x00000800 (=dword:800)
Number of sectors: 2048
Cache in kilobytes (KB): 1024
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"CacheSize"=dword:800
"Flags"=dword:10046
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:800
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:28
"DataCacheSize"=dword:800
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:10056
"DataCacheSize"=dword:800
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1\FATFS]
"Flags"=dword:14
"DataCacheSize"=dword:800
I have also modified some of the default "Flags" values, but I don't recommend you to do that if you don't know exactly what are you doing.
For further information, please check:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wcedata5/html/wce50confatfilesystemregistrysettings.asp
Please, let me know your own experiences.

Love the new ROM & extended rom on the SD card. By the way do we have to install all cabs in extended to the device or card?

You can install the cabs where you want. I installed all the 'system' cabs (such as camera upgrade, MMS tool, etc) to the internal storage, while all the others - to the card.
Is there any method to change the boot logo? Those stripes aren't nice...
Hi guys,
I keep on testing CacheSize and DataCacheSize values and I'm very impressed with the results I get. I show some articles in MSDN which point out that increasing cache size will decrease performance especially using flash memory.
In fact, reducing values (I'm testing =dword:100 (256 in DEC) and =dword:80 (128 in DEC)) my BA works really fast... as fast as WM2k3
I do believe now the fact of increasing values up to =dword:1000 (4096 in DEC), as we were doing, it DOES decrease overall preformance.
There're also other registry key I have modified to add the following values:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\IMGFS]
"PathCacheEntries"=dword:80
"Flags"=dword:10046
"EnableWriteBack"=dword:1
"EnableDataCacheWarm"=dword:1
"EnableCacheWarm"=dword:1
"EnableCache"=dword:1
"DataCacheSize"=dword:100
"CompactionPrio256"=dword:ff
"CompactionCritPrio256"=dword:ff
"CacheSize"=dword:100
"CacheDll"="diskcache.dll"
"BufferSize"=dword:100
Please, if you can add these values and modify CacheSize and DataCacheSize in this key and all the keys I gave you previously in this thread, I would really appreciate your help.
I will post a new version on Sunday night or monday morning with the optimal values.
Concerning BT disconection at power off, I don't have a solution yet. For me it's not a big deal as I don't have a headset and when I use BT in my car with TomTom, the BA is always turned on but I keep researching.
ArtZ
@simonsalo
Well, install all cabs in the extended rom is not mandatory. But you need the following cabs if you want to use all possibilities of your BA:
Album_BA_AKU26_RC23_Midi.cab (this cab works with your camera)
ArcsoftMMS_3.0.7.6.cab (if you send and receive MMS)
BA_WW5_SMS_Alert_fix.cab (if you want to see the name of the person who is calling you)
Java_10.1.2.76_BA_WWE_unremovable.cab (needed for IE)
PVPlayer_WWE_AAC.2577.cab (used together with ArcsoftMMS)
Signed_HTC_CameraPatch_2.3.sa.cab (camera patch)
@_TB_TB_
This is how I add files (ie: boot splash image) into a nk.nbf file. If you feel confortable with it, you can try.
I use "IMGF tools" and "rgucomp.exe" to modify the ROM.
The process is as follows:
-With xda3nbftool.exe, I convert the original nk.nbf file into nk.nba
-With IMGF tools, I prepare the nk.nba file to antoher format so I can extract, delete, add files (You cannot replace an extinsting file for a new one if you don't delete first the old one) or make a dump of the whole ROM (all directories and files) into a directory (I use the this option). The registry is in two files: default.hv and user.hv
-Then I use "rgucomp.exe" to convert the registry (default.hv and user.hv) into a text (ASCII) file to modify the values.
-Once this is done, I convert the new ASCII files into UNICODE files and I use again "rgucomp.exe" to convert the UNICODE files into default.hv and user.hv
-I copy the new files to the dump directory to replace the old files. I also can add some new files (programs, dll, etc) to the dump directory (This is how I have updated the Camera and Pocket MSN)
-When all this is done, I compile the dump directory to build a nk.nba file.
-Finally, with xda3nbftool.exe I rebuild nk.nbf file

Did you do a full WM5 hardreset?
4. When the upgrade is completed, you must perform a Hard Reset
Press and hold the "Power" button, and then press the Reset Button
Colored stripes (the bootscreen) will appear on the screen
* Quickly press "Record" & "Camera" before the versions appear at bottom right
* OR, press "Power" & "Camera" & "Record" buttons and Reset at the same time
You'll see three options on screen. You MUST change the second and the third to "yes"
* You can do that with the "Camera" and the "Record" buttons.
When you are done, press the "Mail" button
A white screen will show for a while - just wait.
It is presently clearing your device in preparation for the new ROM to start executing
When the bootscreen, aka. the colored stripes is displayed, wait more, you are booting
The welcome screen to set up your device will appear shortly ...
The most annoying thing in all the WM5 in BA is the hardware keyboard lagggg:(
@Thuanfx
I supose you can you see but I haven't test it.
@Juggles
You can find the tools here:

@SKassam
I don't understand your question. UNLOCK what ? SIM unlock ? Extended_ROM unlock?
-If your talk about unlocking the phone, I don't see the point to have that included in the ROM... once your phone is unlocked, you don't need the program any more.
-If you talk about the Extended_ROM in your device, you don't need that either. When you use "DOC_Restore_1.0.exe" (included in WM5_ArtZ_WWE.rar), you will get 31MB extra in your BA but this is transparent. The Extended_ROM is now in your in your SD Card and old "Extended_ROM" and "Storage" folders in your device under WM2k3 will be used as extra memory for Windows.
@noed98
Hi Aussi! I forgot to tell I recommend after flashing the a WM5 ROM to do a hard reset and clean the registry as explain _TB_TB under your post. I forgot to say something else... I love Australia. I was in Sydney last time in February/March this year for Madi Gras and I bought my first XDA O2 in Sydney in 2003... Next time, I go there you will pay me a drink, ok? ;-)
@All
I have some good news... My BT blue diode is now flashing even when the phone is off... I found out changing the "CacheSize" and "Flags" settings have consequences on BT and Today screen. I keep on testing different settings. Your help will be highly appreciated!
Testing differents values of CacheSize and Flags in the registry keys I gave you before, I realized that the "Bluetooth headset mode" will appear/disappear from the Today Screen. First I though it was just a display error but after a while I understood it was a memory allocation problem.
I was tonight at a japanese restaurant with my friend. I wanted to call some friends to join us for a drink and before I turned on the BA, I saw that the blue diode was blinking!!! After my call, I turn off the BA but the diode was still blinking... I whished for the first time to have a headset! Well, I will keep you informed...

Great stuff, I've installed this over the weekend. Apart from the difficulty finding things caused by the new OS all seems to be well.
The CAB for correcting the cache size values is missing the first value, and doesn't include the later added values, so these were put in manually.
Regarding the BT issue, I seem to have BT stay on when I turn the device off, but when I turn it back on then the BT shuts down.

Beause of the notification problems with Tuma 1.4 I tried this ROM last weekend.
Works pretty good for me :D : No Wifi Problems, Phone rings with first or second tone. No resets or hangings so far.
ActiveSync has problems disconnecting after removing the device from the cradle (sync with desctop).
I can confirm, that my Bluetooth LED binks even after the device is turned off. Since I have no BT headset to test, I canīt tell you if the BT issue is still present.
"Device Lock" would be great :)

First of all let me congratulate you on an excelente job with this rom.
I've been using it since you posted it and i think it's the most stable to date on my BA.
I just have one problem. I am an heavy GPRS user and in this rom i'm unable to get it to work. I configure the connections correctly but when i click on the icon near the clock on the titlebar it doesn't show me the connections i've just configured.
Is there something i'm missing or is this a problem?
Thanx and keep up the good work.

I agree. Ivan's so far is the fastet (though ar are still slow). I also noted the following:
1. Camera "About" says it's version 2.11. Not 2.3 as the CAB when installing.
2. Messages are not working at all. I did hard reset 3 times and faild to turn it on.

I had unrelated problems trying to get Destinator (navigator program) talking to my Bluetooth Parrot car kit GPS unit, so I downgraded to 2003SE so I could have navigation again.
Low and behold, as soon as I did this I got a bucket load of SMS messages relating to missed calls.
While using this rom I did send and receive calls successfully, but I obviously missed a lot of them too.
I guess it's a hard question to ask, but has anyone else had reports of missed phone calls? I did have the green light flashing indicating I had coverage at least for some of the time I was missing calls too.
I've been out for a few days but meanwhile I have decided to improve Ivan's R4.2
As usual, I have made 2 ROMs, one in WWE and another one customized for Orange France (with French keyboard)
What's new?
-Lastest Widcomm version 1.7.1 Build 3400 with patches for Headset (It should be fully working now, but I couldn't test it cause I don't have one).
-Bluetooth doesn't turn off when you switch off your BA and BA shouldn't turn off if a Bluetooth connection is on.
-Camera (2.11 RC2.3 build 20245) supports MPEG4, Contact Pictures and Picture Editor.
-Set Security applet is now included.
-Nice keyboard skin (working also when you change the HW keyboard to French, but On Screen keyboard remains in English)
-Lots of new registry settings to improve reliability and stability.
-Extended_ROM is back to the device, but I will change it later back to the SD Card. (Don't forget to use DOC_Restore_1.0.exe to revert extended ROM changes to factory settings and use ExtROMUnlocker_WM2005_Only.cab to copy the extended ROM files into the "Extended_ROM" directory. Once this is done, check that all cabs are in "Read Only", LOCK the Extended_ROM with ExtROMUnlocker and HIDE it. Do now a hard reset and everything will be installed)
Here're the download links:
WWE:

FRA customized :
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/BlueAngel/WM5_ArtZ/WM5_BA_Widcomm_FRA.rar
I hope you will like them ;-)
NB: After install (or hard reset), you may find during the first minutes after that your BA works a bit slow. Don't worry, this is normal behaviour but in normal operation, you will find this release really fast.

gothier, the thing is that the system would propably look for Extended_ROM anyway, thus I would have to re-create it.
I'll just wait and play with the first release;)
but I haven't test it.
And the problem with WiFi has been also corrected on both versions. I have updated the files on FTP

I have just installed WM5_ArtZ_upgrade_WWE_1.7.1.3400_SDCard on my BA
Much faster, but BT headset is not working properly.
It will connect to the headset fine, but when I try to answer a call using the button on the headset it doesn't work. When you press answer on the screen you get audio on the BA and headset!!!
Also it didn't install the programs from the SD Card, so I did them manually.
Haven't had a chance to have a play with other bits as the BT headset is very important for me.
Keep up the good work ArtZ, nearly there :)
@inforce
Hummm... As I don't have a headset it's difficult for me to test but I think the problem could come from a value in the registry. Could you modify manually this value?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\Plugin\HandsFr ee]
"SupportedFeatures"=dword:00000037
"ServiceMask"=dword:00000001
"AudioSetupDll"="\\windows\\HTC_PCM_Routing.dll"
"AudioPreferences"=dword:00000002
"AudioHandling"=dword:00000008
for this one:
"AudioHandling"=dword:00000013 (13 in HEX or 19 in DEC)
you can also try to set this value to "AudioHandling"=dword:0000001
Hope that helps. Please let me know if that works and I will patch it.
Thanks.

Yes there are problems with the SD Card version. When rebooting the autorun starts with the new Pocket PC splash and the cabs appear to be loaded then the unit resets. However none of the applications are loaded anywhere.
Did you alter the cabs so the location selection is bypassed? Otherwise how can we choose were to load these programs. We still need the option of loaded some of these to the SD Card as well don't we?
Also I ran setoperator .bat. The batch file worked OK - I typed in Telstra and the batch ran and I replaced the ROM file before loading. However when I went into connections there were no telstra settings there?
As an experiment I ran the "orange" cab file manually and noticed the connections setting were updated. As we are testing these new roms regularily, it is tedious to reload Telstra for Australia all the time. Can you explain what I am doing wrong or provide a cab like the orange one for Telstra?
Also do we still have to load the cache patch with this new ROM?
1 hour later... Ran the onboard extended rom version configured to 20mb - fantastic!! Works like a dream.
All we need now is a proper boot splash & I'll buy you something from Australia....
Cheers,
Simon
@simonsalo
I will use all my miles with Qantas to have a drink with you :-)
Just some comments about the SD Card version:
Both versions are the same technically speaking, the only difference is I have chosen another directory to look for the Extended_ROM folder during WM5 setup. I have tested last night and setup worked fine for me (though I have replaced the first the file on the ftp server for a new one freshly compiled. This is the proper way to install it:
a) You have to create a folder in the root of your SD Card called "Extended_ROM" and copy there all the cabs. Check your "config.txt" in the "Extended_ROM" folder. It should look like this:
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Album_BA_AKU26_RC23_Midi.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\ArcsoftMMS_3.0.7.6.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\BA_OEM_PA_WModem.sa.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\BA_WW5_ScreenRotate_1.1.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\BA_WW5_SMS_Alert_fix.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\CAB-Cyberon_Voice_Dialer_2.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\CAB-TrueFax-2.09.1-WWE-04Mar05.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Caller_ID_BA26_Generic_WWE_RC21. cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\ClearVue_2.4.386_withoutBP_OzUp. sa.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Java_10.1.2.76_BA_WWE_unremovabl e.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\PVPlayer_WWE_AAC.2577.cab"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Signed_HTC_CameraPatch_2.3.sa.ca b"
CAB: "\Storage Card\Extended_ROM\ZIP_BlueAngelAKU26_Generic_WWE_R C20.cab"
LOCK:Disabled
RST: Reset
b) Run DOC_Restore_1.0.exe to revert your storage partition to factory settings and reboot,
c) Install ExtROMUnlocker_WM2005_Only.cab. Once this is done in "Programs" you will see a new folder "Rom Tools" and click on "Unhide ROM" and reboot it,
d) After reboot, go back to Programs -> ROM Tools and click "Unlock ROM"
and reboot again. *
e) While you get the stripped screen, put your BA in upgrade mode (Power, Record and Reset) and flash the new ROM.
* But if you want to install the onboard version, copy now the apropiate files in the BA's "Extended_ROM" folder using ActiveSync (if you copy them directly from your SD Card, they will lose the "Read Only" attribute). Undock your BA and click on "Lock ROM". Check again with ActiveSync that all files are "Read Only" in the "Extended_ROM" folder but also your "config.txt": It should look like this:
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Album_BA_AKU26_RC23_Midi.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ArcsoftMMS_3.0.7.6.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BA_OEM_PA_WModem.sa.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BA_WW5_ScreenRotate_1.1.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BA_WW5_SMS_Alert_fix.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-Cyberon_Voice_Dialer_2.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CAB-TrueFax-2.09.1-WWE-04Mar05.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Caller_ID_BA26_Generic_WWE_RC21.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ClearVue_2.4.386_withoutBP_OzUp.sa.c ab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Java_10.1.2.76_BA_WWE_unremovable.ca b
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PVPlayer_WWE_AAC.2577.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_HTC_CameraPatch_2.3.sa.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ZIP_BlueAngelAKU26_Generic_WWE_RC20. cab
LOCK:Disabled
RST: Reset
IMPORTANT: DO NOT FORGET TO WAIT FOR 15 SECONDS BEFORE YOU YOU REBOOT YOUR BA AFTER MAKING CHANGES, OTHERWISE CHANGES WON'T BE TAKEN IN ACCOUNT AFTER REBOOT. I usually wait for 15 sec and then I turn off the power botton and then I wait for another 15 seconds before I press the reset switch, just to be sure.
I found out that when you install the onboard version, cabs will install automatically but if you chose the SD Card version, you will be asked to validate each cab. I don't know why. It's probably because the new installer autorun.exe. Let me know if you have any sugestions to solve this issue.
Finally, I'd like someone with a headset try to change the values
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\Plugin\HandsFr ee]
"AudioHandling"=dword:00000008
to
"AudioHandling"=dword:00000013
or
"AudioHandling"=dword:00000001
to check if that solves the problem reported by inforce (and DO NOT forget to wait for 15 seconds after changing the values to do a soft reset!!!)
[quote=ArtZ]but I haven't test it.
-That's probably because there's a problem with the config.txt paths, the location of the "Extended_ROM" directory in the SD Card (must be in the root folder) or the onboard "Extended_ROM" is LOCKED. See my previous post.
-No, you cannot chose the Extended_ROM installation path once the ROM has been compiled.
Also I ran setoperator .bat. The batch file worked OK - I typed in Telstra and the batch ran and I replaced the ROM file before loading. However when I went into connections there were no telstra settings there?
Probably you did reset without waiting for 15 secs or the onboard "Extended_ROM" is LOCKED
As an experiment I ran the "orange" cab file manually and noticed the connections setting were updated. As we are testing these new roms regularily, it is tedious to reload Telstra for Australia all the time. Can you explain what I am doing wrong or provide a cab like the orange one for Telstra?
Wow... I forgot all Telstra settings. Smiles. I'm sure you can find a cab in ftp.xda-developers.com in BlueAngel\Extended_Roms with the settings for Telstra. In fact, most of configuration cabs use XML to modify the registry, set settings for MMS, etc, etc. It's not so simple to make a good one, especially when you cannot test it.
I think you can find a configuration cab for Telstra here: ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/Extended_Roms/O2_IIs_Asia_Ext_ROM_140923_WWE.rar
Usually, you will need to install more than one cab, but be sure that you're not installing cabs that you don't need or that contain other settings than operator configuration
Also do we still have to load the cache patch with this new ROM?
No you don't need that anymore. All new cache settings have been applied

Hello ArtZ
I just want to thank you for ur work on this enhanced rom, I have tested
almost every wm5 rom released for BA and ur latest rom I just got last
night is the best of all,especially with the latest Bluetooth stack, I can
send/Receive files..etc.. with almost any device..which it wasn't possible
with previous roms ( Mamaich,Tuma, Ivan... ) and the speed/stability are
good enough till now...
By the way I have the SD card version of Extended ROm which fails to
install the Cab files automatically but that's not a problem at all..
I installed them manually.
Also a boot screen like the one used in Tuma1.4 ( Blue Female Angel )
would be nice to add ;)
Thx again for enhancing this Rom,
Regards..

This is strange, but I got Photo Contacts in the list of programs. I dont know why Photo Contacts is there since its built into Contacts anyway!
Anyways I tried to run it and it gave me this error..
Database Initialization Failed. (f0009859) 997:100:10
I am assuming this was installed as part of the Extended Rom CAB Caller_ID_BA26_Generic_WWE_RC21.CAB. Am I right? If so, what is the purpose of installing it? Can I do without it?
Thanks
@fadhelam2k
Photo Contacts shouldn't be there. You probably have installed an optional cab which install Photo Contacts in the list of programs. When you start the camera, you will see an extra icon which allows you to take small picrures (same size and definition as Photo Contacts).
@SKassam
SD version DOES install cabs from the SD card, but you have to validate the location and/or installation for each cab. I couldn't find a solution for that. But probably someone else have an idea to solve this issue.
@edgariu and @SKassam
This versio has an applet to lock all hardware buttons except the "turn off/on" button. This was already in namaich version. From the beginning, I have choosen the option to keep the ROM as clean as possible, with the minimun of customization. I'm just working on the windows part. You, guys, can add after the programs and personal settings you like. This is the reason I keep on publishing two ROMs, one with French settings (because I live in France and I use Orange, so it's my own version...) and a second one with no personalisation, just what is really needed to make WM5 to work properly on a BA device. In other words, it's like if you ask HTC to add this or that program or setting because you like it ;-)
@all
I read other forums about WM5 for different devices which are not HTC. Apparently, in most of forums BT and headset is a hot topic. I believe this problem is common to all manufactures, so don't get impatient if we cannot sort it out in the the next weeks...

Artz - Mate there is now also a big problem with blue tooth. Although it now stays on (and looks like the old version) my car kit (blue ant) wont connect properly anymore.
What happens is the connection is made and then the car kit keeps trying to initialise all the time - a quick ring, back to radio, quick ring then back to radio etc.

Thats the maion reason why some other roms dont do it by SD card, as if you use the /real/ extended_rom and just pop out your SD card it does them all automatically. That and added support for people without them :P

I have done a little troubleshooting on this one.
It comes down to what I hope is a relatively simple fix.... the phone portion of the O.S. does not see the hands free headset.
Also.... the phone will start with bluetooth enabled but does not see my HS805 until the headset is turned on and off. I don't mind this as much... but would really like the handsfree portion to work.
Once again.. I agree with others here... Kudo's to you ArtZ and all the others for all the hard work put into making this a much better phone. This is the best version that I have used yet!

hello Artz, again to ask you for a solution in bt issue. Your rom for me it's the best one really fast and stabel but non bt headset ....
please hel pus
regards
Yesteray I bought a Motorola H500 to try to find a solution for the headset problems. As I told you before, I didn't have a headset myself.
I understand now why some people don't have the "Standard Audio" check box on "Bluetooth settings" => "Services" => "Hands-Free" => "Advanced": If you change the value "AudioHandling"=dword:00000013 to other value (as I have indicated in other posts), this option won't be available.
-If you chose this value: "AudioHandling"=dword:00000008, you cannot pair the device. WM5 won't see your headset.
-If you chose this value: "AudioHandling"=dword:00000001, you can pair the device, but "Standard Audio" checkbox is not available.
My Moto H500 doesn't work to make or receive calls. It only works as hands-free if I have checked the box "Standard Audio" ("AudioHandling"=dword:00000013, which is default ROM value) but I cannot use the headset button to make a call (which is pretty annoying, I agree). Right now, I try to investigate what is the problem. I wonder if it's not a radio problem. This weekend I will try to make some tests changing the radio version to 1.13. I have some suspictions about the radio version 1.15. In fact, I haven't seen any manufacturer using this version on shipped upgrades. I've noticed also that some people don't have problems using their BT headsets. My Moto H500 is a 1.2 bluetooth device and reading throw the posts, it seems that people who manage to make their headset working are 1.1 bluetooth devices. This is another reason that makes me suspect the radio version. Finally, before posting this, I was trying to find information on xda-developers about Radio version 1.15 and my suspictions now are even stronger. I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38058&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=radio+1+15&start=75

The icon on the lower right taskbar lets me "turn bluetooth on/off" but that's pretty much what it allows me to do. If I go on the start/settings/connections tab and choose the bluetooth icon, that doesn't respond...all other connection icons seem to work....wireless is working fine. sms too as well as phone calling...I don't know what I did wrong in the install...I'm sure I did everything right...can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there a patch I need to download for the bluetooth to work again? I would really hate to "downgrade" my radio stack....and go thru the process of reinstalling all my apps and what-nots....sigh...somebody pls help?
There're also few other posts reporting problems with Radio 1.15
I have decided to go back to WM2K3 for a while and test BT with different radio versions. I will export all BT registry settings (WM2K3 use Widcomm BT stack) settings to compare them with mine.
Concerning to car hands-free problem, it works for me because once I had checked "Standard Audio" box. BT works fine with other hands-free device playing the sound on them (though, I repeat, you cannot use the device -headset- to make or receive call if you don't use the buttons on your BA)
I will let you know what I find out. On your side, you can try to downgrade to Radio 1.13 and check if that solves the BT problem with your headsets. For those who have downloaded my version before 27/04/2006, I recommend to redownload them again. Intead of making a lot of diferents versions, I replace the existing files on the ftp server with the patched versions (file names and links are the same). The reason of doing this is just only for not using a lot of storage room in the xda-developers ftp server.

Artz,
You da man :)
Yesteray I bought a Motorola H500 to try to find a solution for the headset problems. As I told you before, I didn't have a headset myself.
Not many people go out of there way to help others.
My Logitech Pro headset works fine with WM2003se, but I like WM5 better as it seems a faster and more stable.
If there is any testing you want me to do, PM me as i have a spare BA for testing ;)

Hello Artz!!
Hello Artz,
I hope your leg is better soon. I did some testing based on your email below and found the most promising result to come from setting "AudioHandling"=dword:00000001. When I did this the head phone symbol appeared, the unit stopped beeping and a connection was made. However the phone still would not actually work through the car kit!! So I have a perfect connection but no handsfree operation!! By the way 13 or 8 made no difference & didn't work at all. When I first loaded the default was 8. Also neither of the three states makes another check box appear in the advanced settings tab.
Interestingly also, the headset enable / disable Today plug in also doesn't function at all regardless of the above state. when pressed I always get two messages regardless of whether or not my blue tooth is turned on. They are:
1 - Warning please turn on blue tooth to continue (it already is on)
2 - The file '1' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file. (My security is already set to off.)
The keyboard lock I am talking about is the one seen on for example the atom. It is a Today plug in and looks like the headset enable / disable plug in. When unlocked the PDA works as normal & you see an unlock symbol. When locked even when the unit is turned on none of the hardware keys or the screen functions until you actually press the lock to unlock. It is a sort of button guard like phones have when turned on to prevent for example accidental dialling of numbers when the PDA or phone is in your pocket.
Regarding config.txt files, below I have pasted both versions that I am currently using. The onboard one only loads Telstra Australia settings (& all four cabs are needed) and the extended rom for SD card version actually loads the Autoconfig tool into the programs folder allowing you to run it when you like. You can also see how I have taken out all asia carriers except for Australian requirements from the 'autoconfig.txt' file I have pasted below.
However, as mentioned previously I could not get the hammer version of autorun to trigger cabs from the card at all or to trigger any of the copy or execute commands from on board the unit.

@simonsalo, @all
First, I confirm about the setting "AudioHandling"=dword:00000001 (it's also the default value on WM2k3SE) but it's wierd the fact you don't get an extra checking box with value "AudioHandling"=dword:00000013. I do get "Standard Audio" check box in the "Advanced" Menu.
Second, I got some certificates from "Widcomm" for version 1.7.1.3400 (for iPack) which I will include in next version. Maybe that will solve the problems with the Today "plugin".
Finally, I do confirm there's a problem with Radio 1.15. Even with WM2k3SE, I have problems after pairing a headset when I use Radio 1.15. It works the first time but when I do a soft reset to my BA, I can see "Moto H500 headset" as a paired device, but I cannot get connected. Connection fails every time. This problem doesn't come out when using Radio version 1.13. Under these circomstances, I have decided to avoid using Radio 1.15.
I would like also to know if you guys can send and receive MMS. Maybe something is wrong with my script for Orange France or how I set the MMS account but under WM5, MMS doesn't work for me.

This is VERY interesting ... I'm still trying to resolve the Bluetooth "turn off" issue on the BA using the Microsoft stack (I know Widcomm has solved this), but I have NO problems with the pairing and usage of any devices under the Headset or Handsfree profile using the Microsoft stack, with either Radio version.
I've exhausted the configuration route for Bluetooth failure reasons, and am now looking at the co-existance elements between the Wireless LAN and Bluetooth for the TI chipset. I now REALLY think that the MS Stack problem is hiding in this element. This WOULD involve the RIL layer, the TI WLAN, and the BT Stack elements.
I'm researching this extensively now, and will let you know if I find anything of note between the two radio versions w.r.t. profiles.
I wish we could just combine the two ... somehow. :D
Hi Kiwi :-) (just joking)
I'm in Belgium right now visiting some friends, but all this week I've been doing the same: trying to find the problem with the MS Stack because I would also like to use it.
As you know, I have cooked two ROMs, one using the MS Stack and another with Widcomm stack. I didn't have time yet to check the MS5 version with radio 5.13 but when I use radio 5.15 on WM2k3 1.42 (Widcomm stack), I don't have any problem for pairing a headset device though after a soft reset I cannot connect the device any more (even if it's already paired). I have to delete from the paired device list and pair it again. And other issue using radio 1.15 with a headset is the quality of sound itself. I hear "scratches" and another unwanted sounds. This can be subjective but I do have the impression that the quality of sound is better with Radio 1.13
I found this forum: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65715 which seems to have valuable information about MS BT Stack issues. As I told you, I didn't have time to test and make modifications to my versions with radio 1.13 yet. Please, take a look and we can see if we can find a solution there. Do not hesitate to send me private messages if you find something. We can do test together if you wish.
Just one last thing I wanted to tell you Tuatara, increasing the CaheSize values to dword:1000 will decrease overall speed. I get the best results at dword:80. I've seen your post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45846&highlight=cachesize about this issue and your explanations sound logical to me, but IRL the BA works faster at dword:80

hi ArtZ,
you are right, i canīt establish a carkit connection with radio 1.13., now i upgraded to radio 1.15 and there is a way to establish a working connection. I made two changes in the registry:
1. "Audiohandling" from 8 to 13, now i can see a little Headsetsymbol, if i push my carkit phone button, then itīs connected
2. "audiopreferences" from 3 to 1
now when i will make a call i can push my carkit phone button to have a connection, and then i push my call button at the ppc. The same procedure when i receive a call.
Hi Stofi,
the best value for "Audiohandling" is 1 if you want to use a headset. With value 13 you will have an extra check box for "Standard Audio" used for hands free, but it seems that you have problems with headsets if you use this value. I'd wish to have a second BA for testing... :o
To upgrade to Radio 1.15 is not a good thing.
Chuss

Hi ArtZ,
i dont know why, but with Audiohandling 1 there is no sound through my carkit. Whit my own settings, there is no sound after a softreset, my settings stayed on registry.
Iīve got best results with Audiohandling 8, Audiopreferences 3, and HFDevicetype 0. Dont choose use handsfree for telefon calls! It also works after reseting.
but it is the same procedure: first push Carkit phone button, then ppc phone button
im using Radio 1.15. Radio 1.13 will not establish a connection!

Hi Kiwi :-) (just joking)
Hey ... well I guess I could be classified as a Kiwi now ... although I'm actually a Canuck living 'down under'. :D
I'm in Belgium right now visiting some friends, but all this week I've been doing the same: trying to find the problem with the MS Stack because I would also like to use it.
Yeah - it's a lot more stable, and somehow has a better compatibility with everything. Avcrp & A2DP is readily possible to integrate into the BA ROM (v1.4 proved it) - so we have all the features working ... just the $%@##$@!#! thing turns off. *grumble*
As you know, I have cooked two ROMs, one using the MS Stack and another with Widcomm stack. I didn't have time yet to check ... but I do have the impression that the quality of sound is better with Radio 1.13
Hmmm ... I've been doing all of my testing with 1.15, but I have two BA's here - so I think I'll flash one with 1.13 and see if that makes any difference. While playing with the radio ROMs previously I noticed little difference between the two - so by 'number' I chose to use the later version.
On the Himalaya though - v1.17/1.18 had proved unusable for me in WM5, so I've been using 1.08 ... although with the new flightmode application - 1.18 is usable and supposedly gives better performance. It's all a mystery - but it's time to see if we can fix this.
I found this forum: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65715 which seems to have valuable information about MS BT Stack issues.
Thanks - checking it out now ...
Do not hesitate to send me private messages if you find something. We can do test together if you wish.
If I do manage to find anything - the world will know about it for sure, and it'll be released in a ROM as example for everyone to use in the future. If I do find some interesting things, I'll PM you anything of note.
Well ... I'd have to say 'yes' and 'no' to that one.
Yes, it could well perform faster at a lower setting, and you might notice an even further increase in setting the cache lower - if you're not using large quantities of data. If you begin to run any data intensive applications though - like a large number of emails, big spreadsheet, or GPS Mapping software - you'll notice that the larger cache actually helps to speed up the device due to the read-caching which is ocurring.
It really is a trade-off though, and one which is VERY hard to get right. That's why Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) say to let the OS manage it. In some ways they might be right - but ... using the default settings is only as good as the OS decides at boot time. It never seems to re-allocate the buffer size during operation (as far as I can tell) which leaves the cache at the same size, since I believe it must be contiguously allocated in memory.
I decided (after experimentation) that a value of 0x0400 was actually the best (512Kb cache) ... but then experienced no further gains (or losses) by going larger with the testing I was doing (1Mb spreadsheet, 1.4Mb word document, movies, and images loading/display).
Since the BA has so much RAM available, allocating 2Mb seemed like the most practical solution. More would be far too much, and less had performance losses for these extremely large elements.
I've now tweaked the compaction thread timings and priority levels - and this seems to have made another difference in performance. It still needs to be tested further, but by having the compaction thread running more often, it appears to write the information to flash a bit more regularly. By shrinking the cache size, you may be "artificially" creating this same scenario - data must be written now, to provide more cache space. But, by tweaking the priorities, it appears to have the benefit of turning the cache into primarily a 'read-ahead' cache, and keeps the applications (and data) readily available, while still performing the writes as required.
This performance tuning is really a 'black art' and everyone will have different 'best settings'. Since I'm trying to ensure that everything will run and work on the BA, I'm trying to handle the 'worst case' scenarios which people will throw at their devices and expect them to just "deal with it". I'm one of those ab-users myself. 8)
It'd be great to have feedback on GPS mapping applications, and/or large data sets work betetr with larger cache or smaller cache sizes ... but maybe the answer is, we tailor the ROMs for the predicted usage, and make some CABs which provide tuning for each individual users' preferences. Not sure what would be best ...
Anywho ... back to some ROM hacking now ... AKU2.2 seems to have only a few new things ... 8)

First I want to thank ArtZ for this ROM, it's great to see the continued development on making the BA work better/
I've been using this ROM for a couple of days now and have come across the following problems:
1. BT does not work in Handsfree with my Headset (TuMa 1.4 & 1.3 both worked with the same headset). The headset pairs with my phone, but Handsfree doesn't work, no data every gets transfered over the link (I have never gotten BT stereo to work with this headset either, but that is a triviality compared to the handsfree mode).
2. ActiveSync seems to disconnect for no reason at times.
Hope this helps a little.

I have reloaded the files on the ftp server keeping the same structure, so all previously published links should still work. There're no changes in files. I'm working on both versions (MS Stack and Widcomm Stack). New versions will be available soon. I hope we will manage to find the disconnection problem with the MS Stack (TuMa is working also seriously on this issue) when we press the "turn on/off" button.
As I have stated previously, I recommend radio version 1.13. I have tested once more today the MS Stack version with radio 1.13 and I noticed that the telephone works better (fast answering and less parasit noise on my headset).
When you use the Widcomm version, please set "AudioHandling"=dword:00000001 and "Audiopreferences"=dword:00000001 (those are the best settings, but hand-free will work only with a headset to make and receive calls -no car hands-free, for instance). These are default settings on WM2k3 (Widcomm version 1.0.0.3900)
If you use the Widcomm version with Extended ROM in the SD, do not mix "config.txt" files. Onboard version and SD Card version have different "config.txt" as installation paths are different.
The locked splash screen will be present after you have competely configure your BA. For the first boot, you will get only the "striped splash screen" but once you have gone though "Owner Information", "Input", "Menus", "Phone", "Today", "Button lock", "Clock & Alarms", "Device Information", "Regional Settings", "Buetooth" and "Connections", at next soft reset the splash screen will be visible. I really don't know the reason but I've noticed this.
Hope that helps!

Found and moved a bunch of files to a safe area on ftp
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/BA_WM5/Shipped_Extracted_Updates/WM5_ArtZ/
Corrected link in ArtZ First post.
The others will bounce unless somebody PM me the post and the correction (no I won't read the whole thread)
I think I found the reason why the MS Stack version doesn't work and I'm not really optimistic about a forthcomming solution.
Let me try to explain.
The Widcomm version uses 3 BT scripts:
-Init_Rom_v316.bts: Initilization the BRF6100 v1.3 device for Firmware v3.16 - Device in ROM mode - Compatablity with BRF6100 1.3 ROM ONLY!, Support for Soft Gemini
-Soft_Gemini_Disable_for_P4.bts: Texas Instruments, Soft Gemini Disable script
-Soft_Gemini_Enable_for_P4.bts: Texas Instruments, Soft Gemini Disable script
-Init_Rom_v316.bts This software update is required to be executed after power up or reset of the BRF6100 v1.3 device for optimal performance and enhancement of the RF.
Script Improvements:
-RF robustness improvement over temperature and process,
-Decreased output power by 2db for added RF robustness for compliance with the 4db output limit throughout all conditions,
-Improvement of maximum input power level,
-Corrected VS_Set_Settling_Time behavior
I believe MS BT Stack cannot support by default BRF6100 1.3 ROM. Microsoft Stack is compatible with BRF6150 2.12 ROM on WM5 devices but our BA use BRF6100 1.3 ROM.
Maybe someone with better knowledge of BT connections than myself can do that, maybe my theory is false... but I do believe that the problem comes from communication between Windows ROM and Radio ROM.
Cheers :cry:

Artz - I have now reflashed your original Microsoft stack / SD Card extended ROM version back onto my PDA. As I mentioned earlier, I am happy enough to manually turn on the blue tooth and aside of being a little slow, this ROM will keep me going till you come up with a new Widcom or other version that works. I also loaded the cache patch you supplied for use with this ROM in the hope that it helps & loaded Tuma's keyboard skin.
I tried down-grading my radio stack from 1.15 to 1.13 type 1 without success. It went through the motions of re-flashing but finished very quickly, then after resetting I still have the 1.15 radio stack. Any special procedures for downgrading the radio?
Are you still trying to obtain a later version of Windows Mobile 5? This would be good as I found out Avantgo doesn't sync with 5.1.1700. (The work around is to sync Avantgo directly from the unit.)
I tried all your methods for reinstating the boot splash but the only one that partially works for me is Tuma's bootlogo / registry conmbination. This still only works after the ROM / radio IDs in the bottom RH corner have finished displaying. So the first half of the boot up is still horizantal, coloured stripes.
See Ya later - Simon.

Is it possible to remove camerasoftware? With your Software cobination (Camera and MMS Client), there is unable to send MMS Video over MMS Video button.
Now i made some changes: first i installed WM5_arcsoftmms_from_universal.cab (ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/Universal/Tools_Programs/WM5_ArcsoftMMS_From_Universal.CABurl) from ncruz, then i installed mamaich camera cab camera2k5_v1 and each things works perfekt! Try this for whoever get stuck at boot screen or in bootloader mode
1. Download mtty v1.42 from http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/mtty1.42.rar
2. Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete)
kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
3. put your device into Bootloader Mode by pressing Power + Record Button and Soft Reset.
4. Run mtty (from downloaded) Choose USB
5. type "set 14 0" without the quotes to tell bootloader to boot the OS after reset.
6. type "task 28" to get your device formatted
7. type "task 0" to ask your device reboot
8. take the device out of the cradle, and manually reset it if it does not do that already.
Thanks to imatrix.
When I want to unlock my ext rom after making it hidden it gives an error in a window "Debug:" and nothing more.
I rebooted after the making it hidden and I saw the ext rom.

Hi Folks,
First, Artz, thanks for the ROM! We all appreciate it I'm sure! I've been a Smartphone/PPC user for years (some may know me from modaco) and I've finally gotten around to trying out the upgrade.
This is the second ROM I've tried on WM5, the first being TuMa 1.3 and I'm quite happy with this one as it seem a bit more responsive. Mostly things are working out well, mostly. However I do have a couple of issues that I wonder if I could get some advice on...
The biggest one is the phone functionality itself. Outgoing is perfect, no problems whatsoever, but incoming has a less than 50% success rate. The caller gets the rare UK "things are knackered" tone, which is a repeating short and long tone. Sometimes it goes straight to answerphone and I get the Orange "missed call" SMS, but not the phone notification. I have tried a wav ringtone and I switched to the 1.13 radio as suggested in other posts, but it's still not reliable. When it does get through it always rings before the third ring, usually on the first or second. When it has problems, the phone will wake from standby, sit for a moment, then it will drop the mobile network then regain the coverage. Would trying 1.15 perhaps help, or are there larger problems there?
ActiveSync remains connected when you undock the phone. I've not found any posts with solutions for this; is it something you just have to live with, or do some of you not have it? Going to standby and back fixes it, but that's a serious hassle when you just want to look up something.
Oh, and one last thing...could someone take a look at renaming the Antz ROMs on the FTP site? I've been doing this sort of thing for years yet I had to spend an hour google-notepadding different posts in the forum trying to figure out which of the three different ROMs to use. I'm still not sure! You need some sort of version numbers so that we can tell when you do an update. Don't just replace the old one...especially as vandals seem to like the ftp site here and older ones might get uploaded in their place.
Ideally a page on the wiki for this would be good. I'd be willing to do write this as a thank you, if you could just figure out which ROM is which.
Thanks again to everyone for all of the work that has been needed to get these ROMs up and running!!

DOC_Tool_1.0 doesn't work on wm5. It asks for confirmation that it will format, i hit ok. Then spits outs this error: Failed to create handle
I don't want to have to downgrade to wm2003 just to delete the EXTROM then install wm5 again. Any help?

Hi to all!
I can't download the file. I'm getting an error 550 like the others. Is there anybody kind enough to upload it to rapidshare or megaupload? Thanks to all!

Thats because this post was started in April 2006!!!
You really shouldn't thread mine like this and expect links to work...and the ROM will be outdated anyway.... :rolleyes:
