Hi,
I am very lost here... I have been wandering around this forum for a while - but haven't found the answer for my problem.
I was updating my m500 using win98 and the latest update provided by Orange.nl
While upgrading my pc gave me a message 'new usb device found' and started installing it as new hardware. I think that's the reason the connection dropped and the update could not be finished.
I am now left with a m500 that gives me a dark screen and says 'serial v1.00' and when plugged in 'usb v1.00'.
But it doesn't give me anything else. I can't connect to the computer anymore, it seems like there's nothing on. ?
If somebody know's how to solve this: I would be very happy!
Thanks in advance!

Well - I am not so lost after all.
I downloaded the ROM update from the link found in the wiki area here, and just gave it a try: hooked on with usb and ran the installer. Good it have been more easy?
I guess the other update isn't so wonderfull after all...
Thanks for thinking along anyways - and hope this solution helps some one else in the future!

Well - I am lost again!
Since my battery was (nearly) empty [I let it go out to make sure I did everything ;-) ] the starting install went wrong: it fell out and became buggy. I tried to do exactly the same (after hanging on charger for a while) but it doesn't work anymore!
Somebody 's got a clue?

You're battery won't charge without an
OS on your magician. So find someone nearby to charge your battery for you. Somehow the tools work best with XP & some of them don't work at all with WIN98. The usb interface of WIN98 is far from perfect :-(
When you live close to Nijmegen you can drop by & we can save your phone. Otherwise find a friend with XP & have him/her install act.sync & update with a shipped-rom once more, but be quick before your battery totally runs out & you need a spare one to do the update.
Good luck, M
Ps. pls read my update guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46628

Hi oltp,
definitely not close to Nijmegen :-)
I'll get a friend install active sync and do it over there, no big deal. But what about that battery thing? I read different stories about it.
Last thing I tried was letting it without battery for an hour to empty the complete backup battery. Plugging it in gave me a red light, where usually the green (or blue in case of BT) light burns.
It's in bootload now. But it doesn't get anything since when wanting to upgrade it give me empty stuff on the present image versions... I read one post about that, but no extra info on what that is... Do you know?
Thanks for your awesome work on this forum btw: you are really everywhere ;-)

When your battery is low you get a red led. General assumption is that the phone isn't charging the battery in bootloader mode.
The empty fields for current versions in the upgrade program are to be expected. Extract all the files from your shipped-rom & you'll find among others 'getdevicedata.exe'. That one's being send by act.sync to your device & executed on your device to produce a file with the current verdions. So your device must be running Windows to perform these functions. Now it simply can't determine your version & it's nothing to worry about.
Succes, M

Well - I'm a happy camper again.
WinXP did it for me.
I think I got inspired doing all this stuff: let's pimp my MDA!
Thanks OLTP!
