View Full Version : Transferring number from SIM not registered to me

So my mobile phone, and a bunch of other stuff, got stolen a few days
ago.

I'm wondering how I can get the old number transferred to a new SIM,
given that the original SIM is not registered to me. I just inherited
the SIM from a friend when I first arrived in London about a year ago,
and he'd inherited it from somewone else and so on and so forth to the
point where noone knows who it was originally registered to. This is a
probloem as the Vodafone operators claim they can't transfer the number
or release any calling records without authorisation of the original
owner it is registered to.

It's a bit of a disaster as I have no way of contacting many people in
my addressbook, nor do they have any way of contacting me...including
the girl I'd just started seeing!

One friend has suggested you can use SIM-card readers/writers to
rewrite the number on the new SIM, but I'm not so sure this is possible
where you don't have the original SIM at hand to clone. Anyone know
anything about this?

Any other suggestions (other than preventative wisdom...at this point I
need a cure)? I'd be very grateful for any solutions, you'd be having a
direct impact on my love life!
