Reason:

¤ having the advanced mobile device with full-colors screen on hand
¤ with dynamic multimedia capicities, video, sounds
¤ and what's up? static ordinary Today Screen, plain background

¤ I want to really improve the impressions
¤ I want to spice my mobile device's interface
¤ ... and surprise my friends, certainly

Purposes:

¤ display background as the live image from camera picture
¤ display highly animated content (25fps) on the top of the above background and play special sound effects
¤ display all daily necessary information on the above content: incl. calendar events, missed phone calls, received messages, weather status
¤ show this interface when the device's power turns up, and start animation
¤ probably: replace the default Today Screen

The project sounds very interesting, and possible with the WM5 camera API that should make camera access standard for all devices.

But wouldn't and app like that eat up a lot of CPU cycles, and slow down the device, especially with the OMAP units? Plus more CPU usage means shorter battery life right?

Any way, I will be following your progress and should some kind of demo/alpha/beta become available, will be happy to test it on my brand new imate jamin.

Good luck with the project! 8)

No, we cannot use Camera API.

We have to use DirectX and get camera streamed image directly from DirectShow video buffer.

Surprise, it does not slow down device any more. At least until my current observations and measurements. But I just play with this project w few days. But still, a few more problems exist and should be fixed.

Certainly I will update this thread if something will go up.
