Like the rest of us fed up T-Mob vario users i sent an email to tmob asking when we are going to get this blasted upgrade and the reply I got can mean one of two things:
- The ROM is going to be available real soon
- The person sending the email is mentally ungifted
Hello Philip
Thanks for your email about updating the firmware on your phone.
I'm sorry to hear that you still haven't been able to upgrade your MDA Vario. I can understand this must be frustrating for you.
I can tell you that there's the opportunity to update the firmware on your phone.
Please feel free to click on the following so you can do this http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/index.html.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact me Philip and I do hope you can upgrade your phone soon.
If you have any other questions about this then please let me know and I'll be happy to help.
Now from that I (probably rather optimistically) take that she thought the ROM would be available by the time I get the email so maybe they know something we dont (told you I was being optimistic).
Fingers crossed

don't hold your breath...
I emailed them months back, and had a phone call from one of the TMobile customer services guys a few days later, promising me the upgrade would be available to download "next week"..
That was around the easter bank holiday, so much for their promises..

looks like the good old generic email repsonse... giving you the location where the rom is located... no sign of a new one though...

Yeah had the same crap from them with my magician, overpromising and underdelivering. The hold up with this update of course being down to T-Mobile not being sure whether releasing AKU2 would screw up their blackberry sales.
Note to t-mobile: Blackberry sucks and overpriced whereas exchange is too complicated for most people to set up so you will still get your suckers paying for BB. Just give us AKU2 because if you don't then anyone who wants to use it will just use a different ROM and make damn sure that they never buy t-mobile again.

Hi Guys
My first post!

Well welcome to the forums,
the O2 ROM does seem faster and definitly more stable. I was having quite a few niggles with the Tmob ROM in that respect. I still decided to overclock it though to increase responsiveness.
Im even using the O2 extended rom and just added the T-Mob GPRS settings:
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk <-- .uk not .co.uk
username: user
password: pass
Hope that helps

Thx Herman
I have been onto the o2 site but they want my imei number and o2 phone number so couldn't really get any further. is there another way of getting the roms?

take a look at the ftp site: ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com in the wizard folder
U may need to unlock your phone before you can update, search the forums for instructions on flashing your phone with the rom.

I've just spoken to T-Mobile and I've been told that the release of the UK AKU2 update is indeed imminent. Apparently, the update itself is tested and ready, and the only delay is the meetings that are currently going on to decide the launch details.
Apparently, this update will also include or be released at the same time as the Blackberry Connect software in the UK.

To all of you using non T Mobile Roms out there. What keyboard layout has the alternative Rom given you? i.e is it still a UK keyboard layout?

I gave up - constant resets, whilst on the phone etc.
I now use the Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE. it is so much more responsive & hasn't yet reset on its own accord yet. I've been using it for 2 weeks now & I've set up the push email for use via mail2web detailed else where on xda developers.
Wifi g works fine, as does syncing with my iMac (both OSX & XP).
I don't use MMS so I'm not sure if I've set it up correctly.

..by the time TMobile UK release AKU2.0 every other carrier will probably be rolling out their AKU2.2/2.3 implementation!

currently using cingulars one which summiter had "amended" - very good.
I'm on T-Mobile UK and am planning on upgrading my ROM using summiter's custom AKU 2.3 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52521) for Cingular 8125 users.
I was wondering how I can remove or replace Cingular's customisations with T-Mobile UK's settings. Can you help?
I'm looking into keeping the installation down to the minimum required.
Tks.

You can simply break the ROM apart, ditch Summiter's Extended ROM and load the T-Mobile UK Extended ROM.
Or if you just want the AKU 2.3 core as shipped, grab the "Mr. Clean" ROM and the T-Mobile UK Ext ROM. You can either flash the T-Mobile UK Ext ROM to the device and hard reset or install each CAB by hand. It's up to you.

Thanks gamescan. I'm new to cooking ROMs but I'm very much interested in optimising my setup so I think I'll definitely give this a go.
As you might have already noticed I've posted a topic on the Mr. Clean thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52775) enquiring about how it compares to summiter's custom ROM. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=306839) I guess you kind of answer my question with this reply.
So, basically what you are saying is that I can use the Mr. Clean ROM, take summiter's ROM apart and get the various bits and bobs I want from it from the Extended ROM, add all I want from T-Mobile UK's original Extended ROM and even some stuff I might wish to include and then wrap it all up. Right?
I guess my next step will be to read the Home cooked Roms How to (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=52564) and to try to understand what I need to take from T-Mobile UK's original Extended ROM.

And while we're on the subject, can anyone please tell me what each of these files is responsible for?

Where can we get hold of the T Mobile UK extended Rom or the UK CAB's you mention?
All I'm aware that is needed are the GPRS & MMS settings. Do we really need any of the other stuff?
What about this camera driver patch - is it in the latest Roms or do we have to add it separately - I'm currently using the stock Qtek 2.17.7.2WWE rom which hasn't caused any resets for the past 6 1/2 days.
Also I've set up my MMS as per the T mobile website instructions, how do I test if MMS is working? (other than sending a photo to somebody!)

If you open the cab file in winrar and then use view file on the contents of the cab. Of most interest is CUSTOM~1.004 and CM_ENT~1. The former shows what files are going to be installed and CM_ENT~1 is the most common installed file and it outlines registry changes. Most of the T-Mobile cabs are registry changes.
Look on the wiki for the NL T-mobile versions ... it is mostly the same but for the UK.

From the XDA-Developers' FTP server at the following location
url: ftp://xda-developers.com/Wizard/Extended_Roms/
file: T-Mobile UK MDA VARIO extended_rom.rar
All I'm aware that is needed are the GPRS & MMS settings. Do we really need any of the other stuff?
That's exactly what I'd like to know.
Also I've set up my MMS as per the T mobile website instructions, how do I test if MMS is working? (other than sending a photo to somebody!)
I guess the only way to check if it's working is exactly by sending one to someone. ;)

I think I've found it: XDADeveloperWiki - Himalaya Extended ROM Reference (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Himalaya%20Extended%20ROM%20Ref erence)
Not sure because I can't seem to be able to open the page. I'll keep trying.
