As far as I know, this is the only public way to get AKU 2.2 on a Wizard. I'm sure the T-MO and other folks will get at tearing this apart so they can have what we now have. =)

Here's the scoop:

OS: 5.1.195 build 14928.2.2.0
Radio: 02.13.11
Bootloader: 2.21
Media Player: 10 build 14928
Free Storage: 43.48M
Free Program: 24.57M

The ROM version is reported as 2.17.11.1 - this is the version on devices distributed by Cingular and Microsoft to partners, testers, execs, etc.

I've kept the customizations as they were created by Cingular for this build, with the following short list of additions:

A2DP
Multi-select contacts
Wireless Today screen plugin
Transparent carrier logo (used when displaying phone pad)
Disable prompting for unsigned cab file installs

Aku 2.2 allows for placing the clock on the title bar in place of the battery meter. The requisite registry entry is in place and this is the default behavior.

Over the coming days I'll create some customized versions of this ROM similar to others I've created, and based on feedback from my request for suggestions.

If you have never successfully CID unlocked, please do so since the SPL is sourced from another carrier's ROM.

Start you dowloadin' now:

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Cingular/Cingular_RUU_WIZARD_217_AKU22_Basic.exe

Big thanks again to Mr. or Mrs. <anonymous> for getting the AKU 2.2 bits to me.

EDIT:

Although the clock is now the default in the title bar, if you want it to display while other programs are open, you'll need to go to Start->Settings->System->Clock & Alarms->More and check "Display the clock on the title bar in all programs"

Just thought I'd clarify...

Also, despite what has been said, AKU 2.2 does not include Compact Framework 2. I'll add it later.

Gawd, I've been waiting for this forever. Thanks Summiter. Downloading now. :D

Sucessfully flashed. Testing now. BTW, I manually soft resetted prior to customizations. (I like to do my own). It's great to see the time up in the taskbar again, rather than that useless battery meter.

It's downloaded and sitting on my harddrive. Can someone post whats different (apart from clock in title bar) between this ROM and the 2.17 AKU2 ROM that's been out..

Don't feel like flashing it and re-customizing if there's nothing major. My Cingular 8125 running 2.17 is working great - it never reboots, crashes and runs fast. Its been running for over 3 weeks straight now without a reboot and doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.

Browsing through the files, there's quite a few that are changed in some way from AKU 2.0. What those changes are, I don't know. Finding details on AKU updates has proven quite a challenge.

At this point I'd say that unless the clock is important, there's no compelling reason to upgrade. I've yet to see how battery life is affected.

The bulk of the cab files do little more than set or change registry entries and provisioning settings. Very few of them actually install anything. I looked at most of them prior to building the ROM and there's nothing that should impact performance one way or the other.

i just got my 8125 so this couldn't have come at a better time. i'm having problems with active sync, though. the default shipping rom, and the aku2 from earlier are fine, but this aku2.2 is dropping the activesync after a minute or so. it's odd and frustrating as it makes it hard to get anything installed on the device.

i'll keep on working on it, it could be something dumb on my end. thanks so much for this cool stuff.

since i hadn't installed much, flashing twice in a day was no big deal. but for future reference, once i have a lot of things installed and my device customized fully, is there a way to save all of that to have it restored after a flash?

in the same vein, about how long until your next release? weeks, months? i'd hate to have this all pimped out and then start from scratch next week. but i suppose that's the price you pay to be on the bleeding edge. thanks again!

Let's see if we can knock this AS problem out quickly. So, when you establish AS and go to install an app, the AS connection drops? Does it then re-establish itself? Do you hear the "badonk" sound when it drops that indicates the usb device has disconnected? Can you replicate it with any particular app? (I'd like to try it)

For what it's worth, I've installed several things with no problem. That doesn't mean there isn't some funkiness going on though..

As far as other ROMs, I'll probably have another 1 or 2 out within a week that has CF2 and a few other things like ringers and themes.

Alright one suggestion for your next release. I don't install much of this stuff but I think we can ALL agree that setting the time zone to -5 RIGHT after windows prompts us for the time zone is annoying...stupid cingular must think EVERYONE is EAST coast. So I think that one can go eh?

Thanx; Summiter (and of course the masked man) you guys are the win!

BTW: not to state the obvious but that last CAB is A2DP... I will go buy a headset just to test it when I can find one @ a local store.

Would also liek to add that the time zone TAB is present under phoen options by default and enabled =)

i've been testing it out, and it's pretty odd. as long as i'm not installing/transfering anything the sync stays connected. but when i try to install something (navigon 5, 12mb) it will drop the connection about halfway through. same thing with mapopolis (~3mb), about halfway through then the disconnect sound effect. it won't reconnect until i unplug and replug the usb connector

i'm getting around it for right now by putting everything as cabs onto the minisd card and installing from there. it's hardly ideal, though.

what's CF2?

Hmm, that's a nasty workaround. Let me find something hugemongous to install and see what happens.

CF2 is .Net Compact Framework 2 - a set of .Net components for mobile devices. There's not a whole lot of programs out there that require it, but a popular one - WifiFoFum does. Putting it in ROM saves the ~4 megs of storage space on the device for other stuff, like selections from your illegal mp3 collection, and whatnot.

Another note is that not only is the clock back (like we all like) but the date item on the today screen is now back to taking up only 1 line.

I will be posting anything I notice else I find.

Summiter, did the Cingular rom originally include A2DP?

My headset should be in this weekend and wondering if my rom will have it or should I install yours?

Thanks for getting this out to everyone, cant wait for the customs to start flowing.

Nope, A2DP wasn't there. I added it via cab file. Works beautifully with my ht820.

sure, in 3 minutes it'll turn off, but the connection dies before the screen times out.

this could be a false alarm though. after installing a handful of things and rebooting a few times, i think it might be ok. i'll definitely keep this thread updated if it goes wacky again.

Meh, I meant to get rid of that cab file....deleted. It won't be in future ROMs.

Radio Shack sells the HT820, and if you live near one that's closing, you can get it for 20-30% off. Buying online is cheapest though, but you don't get instant gratification. =)

Will A2DP allow phone conversations in stereo as well or does it default back to a certain speaker?

Will A2DP allow phone conversations in stereo as well or does it default back to a certain speaker?

If your headphones support it, you can use them as a headset for calls. It won't be true stereo, but you will hear audio from both sides. (this is how the HT820 works)

It doesn't really have anything to do with A2DP - it's the headset profile of the headphones that's used for calls. A2DP is only active with stereo audio from a media player.

Quick basic question on upgrading roms, I don't mean to clutter the thread up so I'll delete my post if someone wants to PM or email me the answer:

Is there anyway to set up activesync so that it only syncs emails and contacts with one Outlook Identity?

What I want to do is backup all of my contact info to make things easier when I flash the ROM. The problem is, I don't want activesync to sync all of my emails from my main account, just the ones in the Outlook account I have set up for my mobile email. If someone can tell me how to do this, I'll flash the new ROM and report on the A2DP performance, as I have my HT820's sitting right here...

When I play a media player file, the sound is coming from the phone and not the headset. What changes do I need to make to get sound out of the headset. Also, I am having trouble installing microsoft voice command (msvc) to the main memory. I run the .exe file and go the phone when directed and the phone tells me I am installing to voice command ''' and the main memory is recommended. Go ahead and hit yes to that question. I get the same thing (as does everyone else I would gather) It works just fine, its just VC getting confused about something with the WM5 file system (my guess)

If you are looking for just the Smart Dialer, I can send you the cab file.

I've kept the customizations as they were created by Cingular for this build, with the following short list of additions:

A2DP
Multi-select contacts
Wireless Today screen plugin
Transparent carrier logo (used when displaying phone pad)
Disable prompting for unsigned cab file installs

Thanks Summit.

Two questions:

1) What's the multi-select contacts? Where's its registry key?

2) How can i cook a custom ROM? Is there some thread you can point me to? Thank you very much (i'll like to create a custom Italian ROM).

I only get a yes or no option which will install to the ''' directory and don't have the option to install to main memory. How do I install to main memory?

Thanks in advance.

I have the Motorola HT820s and i was wondering the same thing, the headset works on phone calls and is great but how do i make Media Player play on the headphones?

Thanks for the ROM - jsut installed it..

One thing to note if your a UK user..... as the ROM is US based it takes a few minutes to log onto the UK networks... I had no network for 2-3 minutes...

Not sure why it is though... normally it is the sim card that has the network list on to search through... maybe the vario is a bit smarter in this sense..

Anyway I'm logged onto my local network and so far so good...

thanks again to all concerned!!

Will A2DP allow phone conversations in stereo as well or does it default back to a certain speaker?

Phone is in "stereo" in that it uses both speakers.

I hate to be a stickler, but this is technically duplexed mono, not "stereo". I know that's why you put the quotes there, but let's call it like it is. :)

So to reiterate, only media files play in stereo, not phone calls. Why? Think about it ... there was only one microphone that the other person was talking into, so there's no way to get "stereo" sound from a single source like that anyway.

By the way, excellent work, Summiter! Hopefully Xelencin will be able to work this into a T-Mobile MDA ROM for us!

Summiter,

First, thank you veyr much for your work. I do have a question. Pocket Launcher locks up with this ROM. It did work with the stock ROM, and your earlier 2.17. If you have time to answer, do you have any ideas of what I might try?

Got a question. I did the 2.17 flash this morning and thought I'd successfully unlocked my 8125. When I checked everything had upgraded except the OS which is the 1.8. I attempted to flash back to the 1.8 but got an .nbf file error message and it cancelled the install. I then reflashed back to the 2.17 which flashed without problem. I still have the OS 1.8 how can I fix this? Thanks.

Looks like we lost the ability to manually select the network from the phone app. It did not work with the original ROM. I got the option back with the 2.17 ROM, and seems to have lost it again with this ROM.

You probably have upgraded but it just doesn't show. If your device was locked it wouldn't have let you perform any kind of update. You would of gotten an error message from the start.

I flashed the rom and it updated fine. Now when I try to install one of the programs, it Active Sync drops the connection and doesn't reconnect unless I physically reconnect the device. I've tried soft rebooting the phone and reinstalling the software on the desktop for the next active sync, and it still drops. I know someone else was having this issue, was there ever a resolve? Is there something else I can try?

with all these little things that are bugging some of you people (the battery icon, the vibrate issue), i think you guys are missing a more important issue here. WM5 only supports up to 65,000+ colors, where as other cell phones will support up to 262,000+ colors. i think we should get MS to fix that so we can take advantage of the better screen quality.

thats the same problem i was having, and it seems to be happening again. this release seems a little buggy in that repect. overall it feels "odd", i can't put my finger on it. i think i'll roll back to the older aku2 release and wait till the dust settles on this one.

I'm using Activesync 4.1 and have experienced two 'lock-ups' on my phone today.

I was using Remote Display from MS when they happened so there was active data transfer between the phone and my desktop.

I've disabled USB connections on my PC and will see if I have any more 'lock-ups'.

BTW, Summiter thanks for the ROM. I figured out what to do with the extra Blueberry Waffles!!!!

First, thanks for not only the hard work, but the knowledge to do this summiter.

I haven't installed the ROM, but am waiting for one with CF2.0 in it, maybe even CF2.0 SP 1.

Anyway, I have a couple questions:
1) I used the lokiwiz02b SIM & CID unlocker. After completion, both said they were unlocked. Is there a way to make sure it's CID unlocked? Also, I was wondering about Manual Network Selection, because when I went to the Network tab under the Phone settings, I would click on "Search Networks" and it would just go to "Searching..." and just establish a connection with a Cingular tower. Is this supposed to happen? The "Searching..." still wouldn't go away until I changed the screen & came back, and then it just said Cingular again. Is this normal? I was under the impression that it would display a list of towers with the best reception.

But thanks again, & can't wait until there's a homebrew Cingular ROM with CF2.0 in it. I really want to run WiFiFoFum. Thanks.

I just flashed my phone with this ROM, and I am having troubles establishing a connection with ActiveSync (4.1). It just keeps saying "synchronizing" and then nothing happens.

I also have the feeling something goes wrong with this ROM, it feels slow or something. Can't exactly tell what, but it feels weird :D.

I hope this can be fixed :).

You'll know if its locked when you attempt to do your ROM update. The ROM update will just error out. I'm sure if you followed the steps its unlocked. Don't sweat the small stuff

If you are referring to the AKU 2.2 ROM, then you obviously didn't read the first post. This ROM has nothing added other than what is listed in said post.

Are you sure your device is CID unlocked?

This ROM defaults to using serial-over-usb (the old way of connecting). This may be the cause of some of the AS problems when used with AS 4.1 and 4.2. To switch back to using RNDIS, there is a utility located on the device at:

Start->Programs->Accessory->USBSwitch

You can select RNDIS there and the device will then connect using that network protocol.

If you're having AS disconnect problems, try that and let me know if it resolves things.

working very well so far - smooth and snappy - seems much more responsive than the stock ROM. Thanks again to Mr/Mrs Anonymous and Sumiter!

A small question: has anyone gotten MMS working? Does not seem to be as straightforward as the last ROM - adding an MMS IAP cannot seem to be done via the "my ISP" connection settings.

Anyone set up MMS who can quickly explain how they did it? Maybe there's a CAB file on the extended rom that needs to be run (it was the case in the old ROM) - I did not let the customisations run so that may be the problem..

I haven't tried yet, but you *should* be able to see your extended ROM with Total Commander, as in previous ROMs. Just don't try writing to or deleting from extended ROM because it will become corrupted. You can however execute any of the cab files contained there.

Installed, works fine with no problems. I kept a log for anybody interested:

Results:

ROM installed fine, although the installer hangs at 98% longer than it should have. 98% was actually closer to 90%. Happened w/last ROM update as well.

ActiveSync restored all of my Contacts, appointments and favorites just fine.

Before making any network changes, I started up the browser via GRPS/Edge, and it wouldn't load the MediaNet page. I've never been able to get the MediaNet to display, though. (no loss, I'm sure).

Setting up WiFi gave me some problems. Maybe I incorrectly entered the WEP key, because the phone pretty much hung for several minutes. I turned it off & restarted without help, but once I managed to re-enter the WEP key, and turn off the MediaNet proxy, all was fine. I'm just mentioning this in case others run into the same thing --> I think my problem was a bad WEP key. WiFi is working fine now.

I noticed some changes to the tray along the bottom of the screen: Where there was previously only a Connection Manager "button," there is now a battery icon and a Network status indicator as well. I think it's a little confusing that there's are now network status indicators at both the top and bottom of the screen.

I installed Smartskey. Works great!

The Comm Manager still remains running even when I "force" it to close with Smartskey. This was a bug in the last build as well - not Summiter's fault, just mentioning it.

Installed Spb Pocket Plus and several themes. Disabled its "force close" feature so as not to conflict with Smartskey. Works fine.

Hmm, I live in Washington and my time is also autosyncing with AT&T's celluar waves and showing the GMT-7 Arizona rather than GMT-8 Pacific. My clock is showing the right time (Pacific), just the wrong timezone. Maybe it's AT&T's (Cingular's) towers? I see you're still on the AT&T plan (Cingular Blue).

I'm pretty sure I just posted a response to this question somewhere on the forum in the last day or so. My response was this: this ROM is about as clean as you can get while maintaining Cingular settings. The bulk of the customization cab files do not install anything, they simply set registry and provisioning entries. You can remove A2DP yourself in add/remove programs.

is anyone having issues with the 8125 crashing or stalling in the middle of a call, or when surfing over wifi, maybe even gprs for that matter? no errors pop up for me, but what has happened twice is it has crashed during phone or web browsing operations? one instance for me was when i was in the process of hanging up, and it wouldn't respond to any commands, another was when checking voicemail and no response to any key commands, or buttons for that matter. backlight won't light up if it is off already, and if its on when it crashes, it wont turn off!!! this is a legitimate stall/crash from what i can tell, and i'm scared it might be hardware. any help would be much appreciated.

don't mean to clutter the forum, but this is the most active, and this does pertain to summiter's rom/s. i previously had the 2.17.7? on which the problem initially propagated, then i upgraded to the 2.17.11 version thinking it would solve the problem... no dice, still persisted randomly. one consistent characteristic that i MUST mention, is the problem occurs with an oscillation of 1 led blinking, then both leds blink. both are red, i believe, either red or orange. but one instance i had bluetooth on, and it wouldn't blink blue, so something's up...

3 posts in less than 5 minutes is about as close to cluttering as I can imagine.

If I had to guess, which I do, I'd say it could very well be a hardware problem. I haven't expereinced any lockups, nor have I seen any reported to the extent you have.

Have you tried running the stock ROM for a bit to see if there's any change?

ok, what the hell...i live in california, and no matter what i do, the phone keeps resorting back to arizona time, wtf...essentially it's the same time as it's daylight savings time, but how the hell do i fix this?

I've been having this problem too, my guess is that since these phones have no real Daylight Savings Time function, they just adjust your time zone to match the correct timezone by GMT standards. I live in Mid-Michigan and mine is reading 'GMT -4 Caracas, La Paz' ^_^

I noticed some changes to the tray along the bottom of the screen: Where there was previously only a Connection Manager "button," there is now a battery icon and a Network status indicator as well. I think it's a little confusing that there's are now network status indicators at both the top and bottom of the screen.

Are you talking about the Wi-Fi status indicator at the bottom of the screen? With this ROM at most I see three indicators there; the USB connection indicator, the Wi-Fi indicator, and the Battery indicator. In that case it's still odd having two indicators for Wi-Fi. Would it be possible to make either one go away, or would it be too much work for too few results?

Yes, exactly the same issues. It mostly happens when I have WiFi enabled and am browsing (Both PIE and Network Folders). This did not happen with the previous ROM's and is fairly repeatable.

Just as an aside, has anyone noticed that the amount of free memory is around 4/5M on soft reset and then after about 30 secs it jumps to ~22M? This also seems to happen after some AS sessions...

Other than the freeze issues this is the fastest ROM I have used so far (Especially from a Soft Reset!)

Hey guys,

Found out what was the problem is, with previews in "Pictures and Videos" not showing up. It actually turned out to be a program called "InClose" which I am sure you all know. Anywayz, this program has worked with previous versions of the OS, but not his AKU 2.2...

So just a heads up, to NOT install this cuz their may be other bugs involved with it.

As far as the other bugs are comcerned like the browsing with wifi, and talking, and then it crashing randomly, havent experienced it yet so far, but i will keep a close eye............

Hi all...

I was thinking of upgrading my Cingular 8125. Does this update increase the speed, etc? And where do I find out my current ROM verisons? I've done a soft reset and this is what it says during boot.

IPL 1.08
SPL 1.08
GSM 01.09.11
OS 1.8.11

Am I using a really old version here? It's the default stuff.

Also, I see that you have to get a CID unlock. How would I go about doing that?

Sorry for the newb questions. Please don't flame me too badly! :D

I'm running InClose too, and I'm not having any problems with the Pictures & Videos previews. Maybe something else interfered with Pictures & Videos or some program triggered InClose, causing it to interfere with Pictures & Videos. Both are possible but I'd go with the former.

EDIT 2: samdogg, I don't know which one it was but one of those skipped customizations may have been the problem concerning InClose. InSoftware already knows about this problem (http://insoftwarehouse.com/blogs/official/en/archives/5) and the fix is an updated module that you may not have loaded.

EDIT: Now for the original reason that I was going to post >_< Has anyone had a problem with Opera 8.5 beta 2 for Windows Pocket PC displaying all text boxes in what appears to be the Wingdings font after installing this ROM? I'll post a couple of pictures of what it's doing below.

Not a ROM issue but a Opera issue. Try coping the font verdana.ttf from your computer to your /windows/fonts directory of your PPC.

Hey Summiter,

I was using your AKU2 upgrade for cingular (2.17.7.2) and when I run this upgrade it doesn't seem to take. The ROM version and OS version are the same as before. The radio version does seem to have changed to 2.13.11 though. I have tried running it 5 times to no avail. I re-ran the CID unlocker and it made no difference. Do you have any suggestions to make this work?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. However, DanITman, I don't think this is what's happening in my case. In the first post Sumitter also says the OS build is 5.1.195 build 14928.2.2.0 but mine reports as 5.1.195 build 14847.2.0.0. I also still have the battery icon in the task bar. It looks like the extended ROM took though, as the reg entry for the battery/clock fix is in there (just doesn't work) and the USBswitch tool and A2DP get installed. Just seems odd because the original ROM that Summiter posted in another thread flashes fine and the 2.17.7.2 ROM from Summiter also flashes fine.

Anyway, if you have any other suggestions or thoughts i'd appreciate them.

Thanks.

I want to upgrade to this ROM but have a couple of questions before I do so.
1. With the old ROM I did a hard re-set and when it started to load customization (Cingular software) i did a soft re-set so it would not the Cingular software ie: Xpress Mail, Good Link, etc. With this new ROM will it still load the Cingular software and can I eliminate it with a soft re-set the same way?
2. This may be a stupid question but once the new ROM is installed if I ever have to do another hard re-set will it default back to factory ROM?
3. If I backup using spb Backup and store on storage card, will it re-install all my data and programs after the ROM update?

I'm new at this and not a programmer, just want to cover everything before I attempt this upgrade. Any help to these questions are much apprechiated.

BTW I have a Cingular 8125 running Pocket Weather, Pocket Breeze, iLauncher, Wisbar Advance 2, spb Backup and juni Black & White skin.

Thanks

Does this ROM include the AKU 2.2? (I.e. clock returned to the bar at the top?). The problem with the version numbering is that it is vendor dependant and although one can say a higher version number than another it may actually be an older build of the OS etc...With that in mind could you look at the "About" under Settings and see what the OS version is (E.g. mine is now 5.1.195 Build 14928.2.2.0 ie AKU 2.2)

I'm working on CF2 stuff now, but I'll probably hold off on building a new ROM for a few days - I'm working on getting AKU 2.2.1.

What's broken with activesync? If you mean it defaulting to serial-over-usb, that's be design. There's an app built in to switch back.

I have everything else - a2dp,ringers,themes,fonts, a nice task manager, and a few other things ready to drop in. If I can't get AKU 2.2.1 by Tuesday then I'll go ahead with 2.2.

I have a question about upgrading the ROM. I have already upgraded to the 2.17 ROM. I didn't unlock or run any other application first. The instructions say that if the CID has never been successfully unlocked, to do it first.

If I have successfully installed 2.17, does that mean that the CID has been successfully unlocked? If I don't run the unlock program before trying to install the new ROM and it needs to be unlocked first, what will the result be?

Will the upgrade just fail or will the problems be more severe?

Hello,

My phone is the Orange SPV m3000.
I have bought the BT headset Jabra BT620s.

I must say, that after this flash. It works great.
Only laggy when he's doing more then one thing at a time.

The only thing a little problem is that WMplayer sounds soft.
And when I play with TCPMP (Can adjust sound in this program) then the remote control on the headset doesn't work.

If you got any ideas? I'm open for suggestions.

I flashed my rom without any problems. The dutch language is still available. One time adjustment +1 GMT and everything works great.
Only my Orange E-mail setting is gone, but have to manually set the information to log on Orange.

Thnx for this, If you got a new one.
I would gladly try it.

Grtz.

No significant problems, not one lockup.

I reported seeing three icons in the systray. I'll have to check more tomorrow, but more than likely, the third icon (besides Con Mgr and power) is a USB status icon.

I also experienced problems with ActiveSync 4.2 beta disconnecting. I'll try RNDIS tomorrow.

I also find that the Cingular network sets my timezone to Arizona (I live in California), but the Arizona timezone setting does not affect the time.

With this and the previous Summiter ROM, I found that the "Messaging" SoftKey often fails to load the Messaging app completely. What happens is that I get the Title and Menu Bars, but the app's window is transparent. I see the Today screen behind it, but taps pass to the Messaging app. This bug never happens if I launch Messaging from the Today screen or the Start Menu.

I only have two pieces of add-on software -- Smartskey and Spb Pocket Plus.

I'm not trying to get troubleshooting help, I just want to help QA the ROM.

Thanx; Lew

Just received mine today and have (With the aid of one or two tweaks to set Voice Command as the activated application) found it to be very reliable.

To activate and correctly use Voice Command search for Biztoe MS Voice Command BT Activator.cab on this site to make setup easy.

You will then have to press the left button TWICE (First press activates Voice Command but it puts the BT620s in Headset mode, the second press returns it to High Quality Audio). If you only press it once it will hear you (I think) but you will not hear any reply.

They seem to be a very good pair of headphones albeit a little peculiar to wear (I am used to over the head type). The sound quality is very good (Bass is a little too high but at the same time lacks punch and the high range is a little lacking ... this can be corrected when connected to a PC from WMP with an equalizer but Pocket WMP does not have this facility ... Just waiting for TCPMP or similar to implement AVRCP!)

If you have any more questions PM me as this thread is more for Summiters Excellent .ROM

As far as the time zone issue on the Cingular network, it has been this way for quite some time. I discovered this oddity about two years ago when my SE T610 was resetting itself to Arizona or whatever other time quite frequently. After much discussion with Cingular tech support and two RMA'd phones later, what we came up with is that the older Cingular towers don't handle Daylight savings very well. So the hack that Cingular has been using for years is to reset the timezone to one that would display the correct time on the screen. This worked fine back when phones didn't actually tell you what zone you were in, just the time, but its annoying to users like us.

Any chance we could trash the WMP in favor of TCPMP for your next build Summiter :?:
Love what you have done so far. :D

just wanted to know if this ROM (AKU2.2) will be compatible with T-mobile MDA (known as HTC Wizard), anyone tried it with T-Mobile?

this is the only AKU2.2 ROM out there so I thought give it a try but I'm a T-Mobile customer.

I put it on my MDA, then pressed the soft reset button on the side before the customizations started.

Then I ran only the following two cab files included in all the extended stuff:
zoA2DP.cab
PPCContactsMgr.cab

Then I made the following registry changes manually.
enable 802.11G
enable edge icon
enable keyboard indicators
disable message sent notification
enable network time update
disable unsigned cab file warning

everything works fine, except:
1) There is no MMS account. Not sure how to add this manually (can someone help?)
2) There is a Cingular boot screen. Not a big deal but I'd like to change it if possible
3) There is no midlet manager

Other than that no complaints.

Thanks Summit.

Two questions:

1) What's the multi-select contacts? Where's its registry key?

2) How can i cook a custom ROM? Is there some thread you can point me to? Thank you very much (i'll like to create a custom Italian ROM).

Bye

I think I figured out what the "multi-select contacts" is. There is a cab file included in this ROM called "PPCContactsMgr.cab". It is a cab file created by ammar which allows you to select multiple contacts and adds a "select all" option in the contacts menu. The thread about it is here:

every time i sync with activesync 4.2, i have to rename the device. It then acts like a new device and makes a new folder for my documents on the desktop of my PC, and has to sync all 170 files.Try this:
Disconnect USB, then run:
Start - Programs - Accessory - USB Switch

Change USB setting from Serial to RNDIS. Try a few more syncs and let us know if it solves the problem.

Thanks. I tried this and get the same message reading: "The mobile device that is connected has the same name as another device. To use the existing partnership for the current device, you must give the device a new, unique name. Otherwise the device will be set up as a guest. Do you want to rename the device?"

I really appreciate your time and knowledge.

Since this ROM was designed for the Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard 100) the hardware type set by the ROM would be WIZA100.

I was playing around with my friend's new 8125 and it seemed much quicker than my T-Mobile MDA with Dopod 2.17.

Is there something in the Cingular ROMs (ie config/tweaks) that's not in the vanilla dopod roms?

So, I updated to the latest AKU... now my BT and WiFi aren't working right. The BT pairs with my headset but it won't actually "connect" to it (i.e. I can't use the headset... dialed phonecalls go straight thru the phone even though the headset is recognized as a "hands free").

Then, WiFi seems to be playing games... it finds my router... I have the passcode typed in properly... and it will say "Connecting..." and then go back to "Unavailable" only to be re-available later but not connectable.

Any ideas???

Also, did this AKU update include the overclock? It doesn't seem to be running particularly any faster...

i got this stupid password thing that pops up now whenever i reboot, or am idle for 15 minutes. is this due to the direct push email? any possibility of disabling the password altogether? it seems like there is no way to disable it. :(

I just got my BT headset--here's an odd step I had to do that was unexpected: after initially pairing the headset to the phone, it was listed as a paired device, but wouldn't work. When I clicked and held on the headset listed among the paired devices, I got an option to "set as hands free" (even though I had already picked the hands free profile). After I clicked on this setting it worked...give it a shot.

It ended up being my wireless access point. For some reason all of the wireless devices on my network went kaput.

To anyone who is trying to perform a restore from any type of backup software. It's a really bad idea to try to restore a backup after a ROM install. There are many different registry settings when you upgrade your ROM. I recommend that you use some type of backup software that allows you to select specific files from the backup file to restore. That way you keep all of your files without the registry based clutter.

Woah...what happened? What kind of wireless access point do you have? I'd like to avoid that brand if at all possible ^_^

Am I the only one having this issue? I guess I'll have to wait to install my apps and customize my device until I get this resolved.. I liked the previous ROM but the battery icon in the statusbar was driving me Nutsoo...

Are you sure that it actually upgraded to AKU 2.2? Check Settings -> 'System' tab -> About -> 'Version' tab and have a look at your OS version. If it says OS 5.1.195 (Build 14928.2.2.0) then you have AKU 2.2 and I have no idea whatsoever what's keeping that battery icon in the title bar. However if the section I emphasized reads 2.0.0 then you have an AKU 2 ROM installed and your flash didn't work. In that case make sure that your phone is CID unlocked and try again. I hope this helps ^_^

Thank you very much.. Confirmed that the Flash did not take and still have build 14847.2.0.0. I did not have any issues updating to the last Cingular ROM, but I supose my device may not be CID unlocked. How can I confirm this and if needed how do I go about unlocking? Thanks again..

Wow, great stuff. My 8125 is running much faster after this update from the stock ROM.

However, I can't get gmail to work. It seems like it doesn't want to use the GPRS connection to check messages. When I'm not connected, I click send/recieve messages and it won't auto connect. It says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings." Hotmail works fine though. Yes, I have POP enabled in my gmail account.

Anyone else having that problem or just me?

I had SPB Pocket Diary installed on my 8125 but had to remove it because it slowed the thing down SOOOO much and made it flakey. is anyone using Pocket Diary with this ROM upgrade? If so, how's the speed and stability?

Thanks
