Hi There Guys

I bought my MDA Vario a couple of weeks ago, and its great, but I just cannot seem to connect to wifi.

I have read all the posts on modaco and taken all their advice and tried everything - apart from flashing the ROM.

As I understand it, once I flash the ROM, it will work. Is this right?

Also, this ROM is unofficial right?

What ROM version do I need and how do I flash it?

Thanks so much for your help,
Jamie

1) Make sure you turn the WiFi ON.

2) Try testing with two different APs (and make sure they're not set to G only mode).

3) If the WiFi don't work with the stock ROM, your device is defective. Flashing the ROM isn't going to help. Bring it back and get another.

wifi is turned on and my router is set to transmit on both b&g.

But because I can connect to the wireless network at uni, I dont think its defective (Unless the uni wireless network is something completely different)

Try this:

Get a registry editor (PHM's works groovy)

Go to HKLM\Comm\TNETWLN1\Params

Open the DWORD value for "dot11SupportedRateMaskG" and change from 4 to 8, save that.

Exit the registry editor, wait 10 seconds. Soft-off with power switch, turn back on, then do a soft-reset.

I've a Linksys G wireless router at home, and setting the Wizard to accept G signals is the only way I could get it to work (even with the router set to B & G support).

I believe the WiFi in these phones is much lower-powered than in a notebook PC, so you won't get the same range as your laptop computer.

Make sure you go to Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN -> Power Mode and move the slider all the way left, to "Best Performance"

hey guys, thanks for your replies....

Ill certainly try that reg edit, thanks for that - I went on the PHM website, but what one do I download?

I click on pocket pc, then I click on PHM Regedit (I assume this is the application I need)? I then click on download, but I dont know what version to download?

There is "PocketPC 2002/2003" Then about 3 other PocketPC 2000 versions (with letters after them like ARM, and MIPS)?

What one do I need? I cant download the desktop one because I use a Mac (just to make life complicated) so I thought I would download the Pocket PC version and bluetooth it to my vario, I might try the 2002/2003 one because I only bought it a few days ago, so its the newest version, is this right?

well I successfully managed to install it on my vario, but the registry thing you said isnt there....

I go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > COMM > TNETWLAN1 > parms

now there is a "dot11SupportedRateMask" but not a "dot11SupportedRateMaskG".

Any suggestions?

cheers

Hey guys - reached a solution!

here are the all the details of the "g" hack:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE\Menu]
“AniType”=dword:00000000

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
“EnableIndicator”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
“CacheSize”=dword:00000400
“EnableCache”=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt]
“ReplStoreCacheSize”=dword:00000400

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms]
“dot11SupportedRateMaskG”=dword:00000008
“dot11SupportedRateMask”=dword:00000001

only problem is, its really slow!! any ideas on how to speed it up?
