I've got an Exec which I've had since last November. Its got a fair few apps on there, and will be annoyed to have to put it all back on after a rom upgrade, plus my contacts, hence I've refrained from upgrading...

...but the speed of the thing is painful now, and I'm thinking perhaps its time to start from scratch.

My current versions...

Rom Version: 1.13.48 WWE
Rom Date: 09/19/05
Radio Version: 1.04.02
Protocol Version: 42.37.P8
ExtRom Version: 1.13.139 WWE

So I want the following...

- Upgrade to the more efficient/appropriate/feature packed Rom
- Increase the speed of the thing
- Save my contacts, is there a master file I can backup?
- Save my TomTom Favourites and config?
- Retain my Outlook TXT Inbox/Saved Messages?

Where do I obtain such a rom that you'd recommend to be the best to go to, and that won't leave me stranded, i.e. no further updates to it.

I HATE ActiveSync and would prefer not to use it, but if theres no other choice, fair enough.

Really appreciate your help!

I think you are out of luck, I've used backup software to save all my programs but when upgrading the ROM it tells me that the it's not the sme device and not to restore it. I've done the restore but it never worked.

At the very least I would use active sync to backup your contacts then delete it.

I backed up using SPB backup on my O2 XDA Exec running the latest O2 ROM, then I installed the latest QTEK ROM, as i need A2DP. I then ran the backup file, which restored all my files and apps.
Everything is working smoothly, so it seems that cross ROM backups can be done.

What version of SPB Backup did you use?

Surely thats dangerous incase system files are replaced from the wrong rom?

Eitherway, what about the Rom I should upgrade to? Which would everyone recommend?

I didn't really expect the restore to work after the rom upgrade, but there was only one way to find out. And I didn't relish the thought of re-installing all my apps and registry hacks. As for dangerous, if it goes wrong, just hard reset.

What do you need? A2DP, push email, etc.....

Hi, Can I ask you a question out of scope : I want to upgrade my Universal from a Swiss ROM to the latest Qtek, but can not find proper info on how to proceed. Fact is I get of course the country ID error. I found the procedure in such case, but it only applies for upgrade of ROMs that are in .zip files. And the Qtek one is only to be found in .exe, here in the ftp. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Prerna would you mind please starting your own thread...

Pantaloonie thanks for your reply. AD2P isn't something I have any knowledge with, what on earth is it? hehe

Guess I'm looking for a rom that is feature packed with useful tools, more so than the O2 bundles.
