disable notification animation?

If there is a notification I get something like a cheap animation opening it (new mail, sms etc). it is just like window animation in windows starting at the top of the screen untill notification is visible at the bottom.

Sometimes it can be very choppy though, is it possible to disable it altogether?

Almost any popup I get suffers from lag. The screen that warns when installing software, the missed call notification etc etc.
