OEM & OS is the same original, after create OS I edit in Dump folder.

Do all features work including push e-mail?

Now rom only start, have some bugs. I'll fix and release pure rom. Push e-mail and other will be added when pure rom works well.

How did you manage to port it? Mamaich and Tuatara used to work on it (Tuatara still does I think) but there were some .dll depency problems...

I managed to port the AKU 2 coredll.dll to an AKU 1 rom.... And everything is working!!!!

Big thanks to mamaich!

As I said I don’t have a BA, so I need someone to test this ROM:
AKU 2.3 for BA Test (http://qtekworld.free.fr/bepe/AKU_2.3_BA_Test.rar)
You’ll need the noID tool to try this…

(One volunteers is enough, because this is only a test ROM)

Normally it is really fast.
The most important thing is that you see the Start button and the ActiveSync connection is ok.
See the results tomorrow, have to get up early…

Midget_1990
11th July 2006, 12:28 AM
it flashed this time, and booted to the 'tap the screen to set up your device' thing and played the sound, but the backlight and touchscreen are not functioning.

edit: heh you just beat me to it

edit2: i decompiled the rom and the touchscreen driver and backlight things are identical to other wm5 roms so i dont know why it doesnt work :(

edit3: i see many of the basic utilities like backlight control etc are missing in the rom dump, so i was wondering could you explain how to get the dll to boot so we can try adding it to an existing rom rather than making a 2.3 rom run on BA because for all we know this could be a problem of the rest of the rom not just the 2.3 elements (a bit more info would be nice :D )

the ROM u post didn't work bepe, there's something missing from the default.hv maybe, I just take it as a base built, since u mention that u hv modify the coredll.dll so i take it as a base and combine. and everything seems to work okay now.. BT, WIFI, but i dont do camera yet... and just a little bit weird.. the certificates at the certificates applet is empty...hmm...?

the most important thing is now ActiveSync workin fine, but as the old ROM, Sync Contact, Calendar, , etc, is takes quite some times... but its work.. the worse bug is solved... thanks bepe... and offcourse thanks MAMAICH!.

its gettin really close...

aah... I miss that, it just a registry value i taken from bepe rom, but the os I use are all the AKU 2.3 (Build 14955) OS, LOC 2.3 WWE, I just change the driver part

About ramdisk I think u can just edit the nk.nba to support ramdisk and add registry value in default.hv, but I'll try to rebuilt with 32mb ramdisk anyway...thanks for ur input logout, i'll post the result.

I deleted sysroots.p7b from the xip section.
You'll have to remove certifications read this (mamaich... as always...) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=152041#152041)

Also remove this from your boot.rgu:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Security\SystemCertificate s\Root]
"InitFile"="\\windows\\sysroots.p7b"

And set this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init\BootVars]
"RequireCertMod"=dword:0

Blue Angel DEV folder BETA (http://qtekworld.free.fr/bepe/DEV_BA_beta.rar)
Blue Angel ROM AKU 2.x BETA (http://qtekworld.free.fr/bepe/ROM_BA_beta.rar)

and you will need a OS and LOC package (http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,26/id,22097/#22176)

How-To build a ROM:

Extract one LOC to DEV
Run CreateOS.exe and click the button
Run CreateROM.bat

How on earth are you guys getting this to boot past the Windows Mobile logo?
All my build will do is show the logo and make a "tring!" noise. Tapscreen works a little (the backlight comes back on), but that's all.

I've tried several nk.nbas as a base, modified the coredll, changed the cert registry settings, but nothing creates any improvement.

Need someone to try this new driver package:
-removed all wm2003 stuff
-new Security settings
-SMS works
-A2DP Plugin
-Cleaned Up the registry
-...

1. Delete all xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxx folders from DEV/OEM
2. Extract this to DEV/OEM

Sorry, but I don’t even know whether the device will start or not...

If this driver package is ok, the DEV package will lose beta state

ToDo:
-Edit boot.rgu (ROM package will lose beta state)
-Make SAP package for BA

*** Ignore some of the post below, should have read bepe's one above  ***
The 'own app install' question still stands though!

OK, flashed this, and it worked first time, the speed is unbelievable, you can tell just from the startup process, I have installed a couple of apps and it went great...

There are a couple of things outstanding for me though:

No WiFi (do I need to add the WLan Manager earlier in this thread?
No Stereo Headset Profile (do I need to add an A2DP CAB?)

and even though I DID clean the Hive/Storage etc I get a couple of this app cannot start, possibly due to cert errors, is there something I am missing?

Also, as a relative noob to the ROM building side of things, how do I add my own apps to the ROM? (If there's a guide anywhere, point me in the right direction and I'll be reading it all night ;)

I did not know about a suspend bug...
Are you sure it is also a AKU 2.x problem?
(Because all AKU 2 HTC devices are using the same BT files)

Please confirm and I'll add it... Thanks

really appreciate ur work for BA bepe.

cos if I dont replace keybddr.dll button asignment would be incorrect, cos ba has more button, but for ButtonIcon.dll u might just change with resource from shellress.dll but i think its more simple just to use it right?

and please add to initflashfiles.dat this value in LOC AKU 2.3 or BA_DRIVER pack? since BA support button for Internet Explorer and Messaging.

sory about the delay, i'm having trouble with the registry entries, it seems no matter what i do in the .rgu files in the OEM folders, they are allways overwritten by the default values, perhaps the tool could be changed to replace default values/files with OEM folder files instead of the other way round, that would make much difference.

If tht happened my SAP and ext_rom would be working and i would have a release candidate.

I've just uploaded a test build of the aku2.3 ROM.
It has most patches applied (camera, sms, drivers, bthuart, certpatch and filesupport).
You'll need to apply the BA_Button and WLanMgr patches afer flashing, also there's no ramdisk. I simply ran out of time.

Get the rom from

doesn't the cameradetect utility and associated registry entries make the required changes for camera and non-camera models? thus not needing a specific rom for the two? although I think I'd rather have a more streamlined install with least amount of unecessary items as possible. the camera orientation was rotated 90 deg on my phone and really need device lock its fast though even without ramdisk

Indeed, cameradetect runs on startup and if it finds the camera, it sets the camera button to the Camera app, if not, it sets it to WMP.

This is the order the .rgu files are used to create the registry:

1. boot.rgu
2. .\DEV\OS, .\DEV\OEM\<Drivers>, .\DEV\LOC .rgu files
3. the other OEM .rgu files in alphabetical order of OEM\<package name>

So all OEM rgu's will override OS, LOC settings except of OEM\<Drivers>

Use this inside OEM to delete an OS, LOC entry:
“Entry to be deleted”=-
to delete an complete Key:

OK, I get the general gist of how to add packages to the OEM folder etc, and have successfully added some of them, however...

I can't for the life of me get 2 in particular figured out...

WiFi fix - Do I need to create a GUUID for this, create the folder and rgu/dsm files or is it much simpler fot that one?

Button Fix - Not sure about this one either, how do I go about applying this to the ROM?

As a further thought, could someone experienced in this perhaps add a detailed How To on the Wiki? Using examples such as those above... I read the Wiki for cooking my WM2003SE ROM and found the info invaluable, but real info for ROM manipulation in WM5 is very sparse on the ground...

I finished the ROM packages:
Blue Angel 128MB RAM
Blue Angel 96MB RAM / 32MB RAMDisk
Blue Angel 64MB RAM / 64MB RAMDisk
-->Download Location<-- (http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,26/id,22097/#22176)

- The RAMDisk is already included as an OEM package, just extract everything to DEV and allow to override the OEM folder.
- Some updates to the boot.rgu
--- not tested --- Please some response whether they are working or not

I versioned it 2.00a.96.
2 because it is AKU2
00a because it is the first, unmoded edition
96 because it supports 96Mb RAM

this ROM, as I said before and in the HOW_TO.TXT is BASE IMAGE.
I mean it is ok, as it is, but it is a base for editing (TofClock, vivi, ...)

I hope, we can keep some decent version numbering, so we'll not end up in 1.50f chaos... ;o)))

But we replaced "96Mb RAM" by "00/32/64Mb RAMDisk"
So the versions for this ROM's are: 2.00a.00/32/64 LOC
I used LOC instate of WWE because it is now possible to make multilingual ROM’s just by using another LOC package.
It’s up to you to use this system...

Last thing to do is make multilingual SAP’s

@Midget_1990:
No, on Himalaya we are using the extended rom as prog memory using DOC tools, so we don’t have on and I've no experience in making this part of the rom visible or writable.
Somebody should make a package for that…

No, on Himalaya we are using the extended rom as prog memory using DOC tools, so we don’t have on and I've no experience in making this part of the rom visible or writable.
Somebody should make a package for that…

I'll not add that to the DEV package, because perhaps there will be a DOC tool for BA some day.
There *is* a DOC tool for BA, most of us already have our extended ROMs resized to 128k and an 61mb storage instead of 43...

My BA Aku 2.3 ROM Beta

1. Ramdisk 32mb
2. MMS, Album, Camera built in ROM.
3. SAP From UNI & WIZARD.
4. Button Fix, Album Fix, BTHUART Fix, Cert Patch, VerifyFile Patch, VerifyCab Patch.
5. Extended_ROM Support.

well, there's still so many things can do, but let me release this beta test. maybe some1 can make it better, feel free to take take it apart and make it better.

Known issues

1. WMPlayer slow/skip on start.
2. Backlight (I've Attach FixPatch Plus CommManager to support Wifi)

Grab a registry editor and go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell and remove "ShowTitleBarClock".

great work man. in term of speed is pretty good, one bug i found though, the camera view was upside down and also unable to capture.

yes, the camera app seems unstable, sometimes the view upside down sometimes not. weird...we'll try to find solution for this. or maybe just use the old camera? any Idea Midget_1990 or bepe?

Aha.. Ok, so it would really not be a good idea to add extended ROM things to DEV.

@01015
or if you are building your own ROM get the "Title Bar Clock" package from this side (http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,26/id,22097/#22176)
!!!This only works on AKU2.2 and AKU2.3 ROM's!!!

Tuatara had extended rom support, but for an "EXTROM" folder on \Storage Card. That is reasonable, but \Extended_ROM is not anymore indeed.

@Avinash75
On last thing is missing, the Standard Application Package (SAP). It will fix the buttons and the perhaps Camera. It has to be a separate package, because it contains localized settings and the ROM and DEV package are neutral.

About the OEM folder:
AKU_2.3 comes from the SO package and is only one registry entry to set the right AKU version
Driver_Blue_Angel comes from the DEV package

you also could add more packages like the, at the moment not existing, SAP package or MMS...

@all:
Some result on the ROM packages, somebody tried them?

New version uploaded.

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blue%20Angel/AKU2.3_TEST_PATCHED_2.zip

It's based on Dev v1.00, and includes a working camera, and full hardware button fix. Button lock is also included in settings.
WLAN seems to be broken (no enable wlan checkbox in wlanmgr, help!).

It also now has RAMDisk32, stored in the XIP section of the rom.

To fit ramdisk in XIP, I've overwriten boot.rgu with rdsk.dll (renamed version of ramdisk.dll). Boot.rgu is definitely not needed in there, and the space is needed to fit rdsk.dll. The shortened filename lets it just slip into the space that boot.rgu used to occupy in the XIP section.

This change means that createrom.bat will break if you try to use this rom as a base. Likewise, boot.hv is different, so if you want to build on this rom, PM me and I'll send the necessary files.

do these include the wireless stereo a2dp profiles? helmi's doesn't unfortunately, although it is blindingly fast...

...and thanks to all who have worked on this, it seems we finally have a base ROM which will allow us to have an unbelievably solid WM5 BA :)

cos I built the rom last nite, and the bta2dp.dll is not available, maybe u can copy that file to \windows and test it..

Let me share my experiences.

- Rom is very responsive and fast, maybe some future performance tweaks can make it even better :)
- Unable to change brightness level with or without BacklightFix.CAB :(
- Wifi doesnt work. But if you apply Button & Wifi.rar it will partly work. I mean, it won't find your wireless network even ssid broadcast is enabled, but if you set everything manually, it works, and it will show up in comm. manager if you run WLanMgr.exe (and enable wifi) manually as well. :)
- Default homepage is set to "-b" in Internet Explorer (with wifi on only) :)
- Camera works, but not from program/pictures
- SMS ok
- BlueTooth Headset (Moto HS810) works OK.
- BT GPS (Royaltek) + iGO 2006 works OK.
- Buttons work(ed) OK, something happened, so Pocket Outlook didnt open, now after "hard reset" everything fine again.

oops, yeah just noticed that myself. it's a problem with the button reg entries. The entry should read :-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\4 0C5]
"ResetCmd"="\"\\Windows\\iexplore.exe\""

So just delete the -b off the end of that value.

- performance tweaks
yeah, the usual cache tweaks would probably help at least

Midget_1990 - tried to MSN you this. if you look in IA_camera there's an initflashfiles.txt. I just added lines to the bottom of that file and ensured that notepad saved it as unicode. Hopefully that will work for you too.

Wifi and backlight are the biggest problems at the moment I think. Has anyone got backlight CPL fully working? If so, how?

With the wizard files you cannot turn on wifi at all, because wifi is not present in comm. manager. If you copy the contents of Button & Wifi.rar (wlan_service.dll, wlanmgr.exe wlanmgr.lnk) then you can turn on Wifi. After you turned it on, it will be visible in comm. manager, and on today screen too. I personally think, these files are missing from this rom build, and maybe some other registry entries are missing for connection manager.

Wow! This topic really has flourished in a short time! Got a few questions because I'm excited by the rom but past experience tells me that I should not rush into messing with roms which are still in pre-pre-alpha. Is the Rom at an adequate stage for general-ish usage? Is there a WIKI page?

Kind regards

Perhaps this helps (Wizard files)
just try to copy them to Windows...
I personally think, these files are missing from this rom build, and maybe some other registry entries are missing for connection manager.

and this is the registry to put it on Service, work fine, now u can click on WifiSetting on CommManager but still cant turn on wifi from CommManager...

Yep the Drivers\builtin reg keys are aligned with those you posted, so it's not that.

I will try the service keys as well, can't imagine comm manager working too well without that.

I've tried a couple of these ROMS, and made a couple with bepe's tools myself, and apart from WiFi not being controllable from the Comm Manager applet (although it works from the Today Screen), it has been the most stable WM5 ROM (and the fastest, by far!) that I have used to date, I've had no crashes or hangs, and even with a multitude of apps loaded it still performs comparably with what people expect from WM2003SE, and the RAM Disk options should increase the performance as well... so go for it ;) (But I take no responsibility for you not being happy with it  )

Been BETA testing AKU2.3_TEST_PATCHED_2.zip

Speed is impressive, side by side comparison with my T-Mobile MDA Compact on 2003SE is very favourable in general use.

A few bugs of course; ie camera works fine for pictures, unstable when trying to use video; seems to take one video then bomb out.

Was wondering, how much of this ROM is XScale compiled code, and how much is from Wizard?

Will Tumas 1.5 bring further speed advantages?

Btw, anyone needs me to beta test, I can do so.

there is no XScale compiled code, only ARM compiled and that is for Wizard, Universal, Himalaya, BA the same

I compared Wizard and Universal roms, the files are exactly the same except of the drivers and some differences because of QVGA/VGA

By the way almost everything is from Wizard (QVGA) except of the drivers...

TuMa v1.5 will be entirely AKU 1.1 OS, with as many AKU 2.x elements I can add. This version is based on an ETEN Port (by me), and is a newer OS version than the Wizard Port by mamaich. It contains elements from many other ROMs and support elements from the Wizard Port by mamaich. However, this should remove ALL OMAP code from the ROM, and give us an entirely XScale Compiled ROM Base. (Rejoice now Wink)

Thanks for the quick response Bepe;

It was this quote from Tuatara, that prompted me to ask the question, I mean an ARM processor is an ARM, but I was under the impression due mainly to this quote that there were XScale specific optimisations.
Wireless MMX springs to mind, but I guess an OS doesnt really require it.

But in any case, we have a fast rom on our hands with all the lastest stuff, Excellent Work!

Will do some speed comparisons with the ETEN G500 shortly.

I kinda concur in the sense that the ideal scenario would be a community ROM not reliant on any one person to release, but at the same time it can be difficult to say what bugs relate to what ROM release once a thread gets beyond a certain size.

Better to put known common bugs on WIKI, with what release has a fix, and which doesn't in order to carry on the work.

And maybe even a worklog to see what was done for each release.

I think all in all we need some project management if we are really serious about making the "perfect" or at least a "damn near perfect" ROM for BA!

so far, this is a list of all the bugs (i think) so we know hat to go about fixing

Extended_ROM - in mine only, helmi_c could you send me the correct settings/oem package?

StartMenu Slow

Slow WMPlayer performance

Wireless Stereo profile

No Windows Media Player in Programs

No Wifi in Comm manager

Error reporting is enabled by default

Brightness slider does nothing

the absence of some tweaks and Ramdisk.

Hardware Buttons - various errors, mainly camera (probably just in mine) and the random 'couldn't find shortcut'

MSN - getting fix from Ivan hopefully (i seem to remember that when in ivan rom we upgraded msn messenger to a new version from a UNI we had the same problem and had to replace a dll with one from wizard or something like that.

Easy to turn phone to Flight mode, but it is more difficult to re-enable phone again (press the button twice)

In Setting - System - Power:
I could only see the main battery power remaning, Backup battery power remaining was dissapeared.

In Setting - System - About:
Processor information displayed as blank and also information about memory.

do any of you guys here have irc/msn/icq etc?

bepe,

it seems that the ramdisk versions of your ROM have an issue, we all seem to be getting stuck at the 'white screen' after flashing a ROM built with any of the RAMDisk versions... any ideas?

The ROM creates OK, but after flashing if you do the format hive/storage, it locks on white screen, and just a soft reset locks on the 4 colour screen...

Midget_1990
13th July 2006, 12:10 PM
so it's not just me then, i'll continue adding the ramdisk manually then.

spkr4thdd
13th July 2006, 12:24 PM
Midget, I was going to post here saying that the perf of your ROM drags once a handful of apps are installed...

However I have just disabled error reporting and the difference is quite staggering... it must grab a serious amount of resources, so of your list above I would say that this is a fix that will provide a significant improvement (along with the RAMDisk of course, if we can get it to work!)

Of the other items you listed I have the following comments...

Start Menu - Like you I've had no issues with this, with or without the Notifications tweak...

WMPlayer - Nothing new there then! (I hardly use it anyway, tend to go for TCPMP or GSPlayer)

No WiFi in Comms Manager - Personally I'd rather have the BTIcon and WiFi tray applets...

Wireless Stereo Profile - A well known issue, and one that I think we'll need to work on for a while to fix

PocketMSN - I'm sure there's a working version out there somewher (I think I had it working with one from Ivan or Logout?), and don't a lot of people use Agile/IM+ or some other 3rd Party app?

Buttons - This should just be a quick fix imo, we just need to get the reg entries from a working one and incorporate into the new build.. (don't we?!)

Backlight - There's a couple of posts on this thread about it, and an alternative backlight cab/file which is supposed to work...

Power - Is the backup battery omitted as it's redundant in WM5 due to the non volatile storage... (just a thought!)

About - OS is also missing... I believe these are all just rgu entries (or perhaps an OEM pkg!)

Overall, I find this ROM very stable, and once we get a RAMDisk working it'll fly... of all the issues above the only one I really want sorted is A2DP, but I'm considering a flash of TuMa 1.4 which had the A2DP working and getting the reg entries etc from that and building an OEM pkg... (unfortunately it'll have to wait till I'm back from work so will be much later tonight :( )

Seems things like the Roaming LED being on in flight mode and
Media player stuttering, are common problems between this rom and Midgets v1.1 Beta.

But the speed of AKU2.3_TEST_PATCHED_2 with error reporting turned off is really good.

Off to test Helmi's Rom now, anyone needs a private ROM tester, drop me a PM.
