View Full Version : Performance gains with TyTn

The HTC TyTn (Orange M3100) will have a 400 Mhz processor. Does this mean that the whole system will operate considerably faster than the Wizard / Prophet, or is the 200 Mhz leap not as massive as it appears (different processor manufacturers)?
I love my Wizard, but it is quite sluggish sometimes and that really is my only criticism. (When sliding the keyboard, the rotating of the screen is really lethargic.)
Cheers

It all depends. I'm not sure on the processor in the Hermes, but it will make a major difference if its a dual-core design like the Wizard running at 400 Mhz versus a single core.
I trust HTC, and its definitely a worthy successor to the Wizard.
Hopefully there will be a way to overclock the Hermes, if it does run a bit poky.

Hey Folks!
On the last weekend, I 've got my Tytn! In Germany it's the O2 Trion. My father has the Wizard and I have to say, that the Tytn is up to 4 times faster then the Wizard.
The 400 Mhz Samsung Prozessor is the fastest Prozessor I 've ever seen on a Windows Mobile Phone!

@MrMarioG:
I have a few questions please :)
Do you have a feel for battery life yet?
Are you using Direct push?

Well, it's kind a hard to explain. Because you know, the first days you will use the device a little bit more as usual. The Battery has lost 45 % of Power after 3 days with factory charge. And I don't have a Storagecard yet. I don't use Direct Push, but use the WLAN module with full power. I also took some pictures with 2 MPixel. HTC has still not the quality of Nokia Phone Cameras but a Macro function integrated.
I only have one Problem so far. The Tytn loses the display calibration 3 times a day.

expansys has a completely different unit! I like the unwired picture best cosmetics of the Tytn so far me thinks....[/quote]

xdaer/Facedanzr: I was at the Modaco meeting. I have to say, the Hermes (or "Herpes" as it was lovingly called by everyone) is a great device - better build quality and feels more compact then the Wizard, but great spec, nice keyboard, wifi etc, 3G - squeeze in a VGA screen and it'd be pretty much perfect. It felt "adequately" fast to me; faster then the Wizard certainly, but I use a Mio A701 and Magician, so I'm used to fast.
A nice device, it'll do very well I'm sure.
However, I have to say, the Samsung was an amazing beast
http://www.theunwired.net/media/news/samsung_blackjack_small.jpg
beautiful screen, best I've seen on any device - the photos can't do the quality justice. However, smartphone, so no touch screen :(

@MrMarioG:
That's good news on the battery... sounds like it may be close to if not better than a wizard. Keep us posted plz as you get a better feel for it!
That's bad news about your digitizer tho.... hopefully its just a bad TyTN and not an indication of some inherent pblm...

Hey Folks!
On the last weekend, I 've got my Tytn! In Germany it's the O2 Trion. My father has the Wizard and I have to say, that the Tytn is up to 4 times faster then the Wizard.

MrMarioG, post some pictures of your O2 Trion! It looks lovely in the factory shots, I would love to see some personal shots. You'd be the 1st with some personal shots of the O2 Trion.

Mario could you tell us how low UMTS signal is?
Sleuth255
18-07-2006, 05:51 PM
hmmm... at least AKU2.2. Note the clock in the title bar (its not AKU1 btw because this phone is advertised as being Direct Push capable). Could you give us a quick screenshot of the version tab in settings/about please? Also, what are your IPL/SPL revision numbers?

I bored of taking some pictures again!
But I can say, that I have the Aku 2.3 on my device. So says the Device Info in the Settings Menu!
@El_Mar1ach1
What do you meen with "how low UMTS signal is"? It depends on the location. Sometimes I have 3 bars and sometimes I don't have any UMTS Signal!
Maybe I can tell you on September what signal strength I have in Italy on Vodaphone, when I visit my italian aunt!

I'm jealous too... i'm gonna grab one probably in mid august. i like the HERM200 more than the HERM100(pictured in previous) and of what i know so far cingulars gonna be carrying the HERM100 so that means i have to start getting ready to fork over $900 for this beast!

I see from the photos that the OS is in German, does anybody know of a rom update to convert it to English? I have a friend in Germany who is standing by to get one for me.
I know i could wait for the TyTN to appear in the UK, but i dont like the casing, the O2 version looks way sexier!

Maybe expansys took an old picture. To me, that looks like an early version of the TyTN - in system information, "HERM100" instead of "HERM200" as it's on my TyTN. Distinguishable mainly from the missing video phone button above the normal phone button. Colouring doesn't say much, as I expect different operators to bring them out in different colours, like we saw with the Qtek 9000/Universal/M5000.

I got my TyTN (HERM200) at http://www.expansys.ch, english version. The german won't be out for another 10 days. Ask if they deliver, and in case of language problems, contact me (PM).

is it possible you could extract the rom? i'm sure somebody on xda-dev has some info on extracting the rom. If i had an english rom, i could cope with having the 'z' and 'y' key transposed, just for being able to have the O2 version ;-)
Cheers

I don't have the O2 version, I have the pure, unbranded HTC TyTN. Still, if it's possible to extract a ROM image, just to test ...

Do you think you can perform a benchmarking on the unit (e.g. using SPB Benchmark, freeware)? Much like the one with the Charmer I've got here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=313810#313810
If you like to do that, I'm happy to give you a step by step guide (e.g. via PM, etc).

You could always look at these benchmark results:

just had a look on the xda-dev ftp site, and downloaded the WWE rom for the Dopod CHT 9000. (same device).
Now, the only question is, can i get used to the 'y' and the 'z' being the wrong way round?...... decisions, decisions.....

I usually have a "qwertz" keyboard on my PCs - so far, I haven't had any problems adjusting to "qwerty" on my Universal or TyTN. Does that help you with your decision finding process?

i have also heard the same thing. Althou i suspect it is true that they wont release itin the UK. Germany never officially got the XDA Exec, and UK never oficially got the NEO, so i suppose we could be due for a joint release. Or maybe we should wait for Tie to do their thing......
I'm still toying with the idea of getting the German Trion, and flashing it with the Dopod CHT 9000 WWE rom, just need to get my head round the qwertz issue....
(If Dopod 838 = Wizard, and CHT9000 = TyTn), here are the bechmarks from a review.
Spb Benchmark Index
Dopod 838 (252MHz): 342.1
CHT9000 (400MHz): 321
Dopod 838 (195MHz): 250.4
CPU Index
Dopod 838 (252MHz): 1286.8
CHT9000 (400MHz): 1283.3
Dopod 838 (195MHz): 905.9
File System Index
Dopod 838 (252MHz): 140.9
CHT9000 (400MHz): 140.7
Dopod 838 (195MHz): 103.8
Graphics Index
Dopod 838 (252MHz): 4091.1
Dopod 838 (195MHz): 2867.9
CHT9000 (400MHz): 697.1 (no kidding :!: )
So I guess us Wizard owner can still live as long as we have OmapClock

The TyTN can be cranked upto 500mhz with XCPUScalar.

does winding it up to 500mhz make a substantial difference?

Haven't noticed a difference yet. I'm still waiting for my MicroSD card to arrive to test out video performance ;)

Hey i noticed u guys talking about overclocking the TyTn. Is this true? Can we overclock? I like to check how much we can speed it up. Man, if we go any faster, it will be like having a laptop in our pockets. Please let me know if there are noticeable difference and how much you can overclock the TyTn.
