I am planning on purchasing an MDA Vario on T-Mobile UK, however I need to use it on Vodafone UK.

I want to unlock the phone with least risk of causing any problems, or bricks as I see it more commonly termed as in this forum.

Is there a simple tool which does SIM unlock and nothing more and is it safe ? I was thinking lokiwiz version 0.1 might do that ?

Will all the new MDA Vario come with the G4 chip ? or is luck of the draw.

Please please can someone shed some light.

I have done a straight unlock and it went fine to qtek 9100 firmware...

But:

Email and other funtions didnt work properly
Phone crashed alot
Finally the back light failed.

So about 10 minutes ago i switched back to the T-Mobile firmware.

Now everything is working perfectly and the new OS looks very nice too.

Yes the Latest T-Mobile ROM, its from their site.

Well i have to use a piece of sortware found here, to unlock the lock on the phone so i could first flash it and that also unlocked it.

Then immediately debranded it to the Qtek 9100 ROM, which made the Device run slower (than the T-mobile one)

Not sure what it was called though probably the lokiwiz version 0.1, that was the one. Very easy and straight forward...

Got my vario today locked to T-mobile UK. And yes it was a G4 chip.

IPP/SPL - 2.21.0001
OS - 2.24.2.6

I had no t-mobile SIM so stuck my vodafone SIM in, first asks for my personal SIM password, then it asks for unlock code.

At this point I ran lokiwiz03a, which ran but never gave me unlock code, mentioned something about not being able to copy some file and it might be in use.

So I copied EnableRapi.cab to my phone and ran EnableRapi.cab from File Explorer, that went fine (message about overwrite, said yes)

Then I ran LockiwizMsl.bat from desktop while being connected to ActiveSync and there it was the unlock code.

Entered worked fine.

As regards the ROM upgrade, my main reason was to lose all t-mobile crap, but found an easier way with ZERO risk:

First time ever you startup phone it does inital setup, the last step it beings to do an install, as soon as the install starts pull the battery out, then reboot. (Important to have the battery cover off already)

On reboot you should be able to go into the phone no setup screens this time, also ZERO customizations, yes means you need to do all the GPRS, MMS etc etc setting yourself, but that I am happy to do.

Hope this helps someone.

I agree pulling battery out sounds crazy, I remember reading it in a forum, thought it would never work myself, since it was a new phone i could always return in 7 days, so thought what the hell, let me try it out.

Been running one day, and everything works fine, phone is fine, wi-fi working, bluetooth and GPS, so far so good.

Trying some tweak programs now :-)

Loving my MDA, why did i not get one sooner.

Thats what i thought, the Vario is very good, but i still think its a little on the large side and not as fast as it can be... I am really waiting for the tytn.

I have found that the firmware from T-mobile is pretty stable and has a quicker startup than the qtek 9100 firmware. however this may not be the case with everyones mobile, just me! :D

Could you not just perform a soft reset instead of pulling the battery out?

soft reset - you mean when the install begins ?

really not sure, guess next person can try this out :-) and let us know.

This tool is great, file transfer it to your MDA then just click on it, it will unlock your phone to all networks, I tried it on my MDA Vario with T-mobile for an o2 sim and it works great no issues, I can use GPRS, MMS, Call waiting etc

...yes, soft reset while device installs works (of course I made a full backup with SPB-backup first)...

I receiced this logfile while executing

xdadev_all_unlock started
device=WIZA200
could not find security key for device type WIZA200
xdadev_all_unlock failed

I guess mine is already unlocked, ain't it...

best way to tell is to put different provider sim in there and turn it on.
