info: WM5torage new version (1.60)

- Full compliance with USB Mass Storage Bootability Specification. Now booting PC from smartphone as USB stick should always properly work, provided your computer's BIOS is modern enough to properly USB-drive-boot. Checked it via booting FreeDOS and PuppyLinux from my 8310 - seem to work ok.
- Improved general compliance with USB Mass Storage protocol. Still not 100% compliant though, due to the built-in hardware driver limitations & bugs.

- Added command line switches to control utility "remotely", via scripting utils or batch files & shortcuts:
-a Activate mass storage mode
-d Deactivate mass storage mode
-q Quit
Switches can be combined, they will be executed in order. For example, "WM5torage -a -q" will launch utility, activate mass storage mode (if not active already), and quit after activation is completed.

When I run the link that came with this program, it will not let me activate and it says "Status: Can't open card."

My card is working just fine. What is the problem?

BTW, I have a Cingular 8125 running the origonal ROM.

Latest version of the excellent Wm5torage 1.72 device to usb stick convertor - i have modified installer so that its suitable for PPC installation rather than smartphone.

mods are:
1. No setup.dll so no request to restart device (not required anyhow)
2. Installs shortcut to start menu\program files rather than start menu\accessories (thats a smartphone directory)
3. Installs straight to \program files\wm5torage rather than having a destination dialog.

This program is one of those must haves. The USB-like storage was want enough, but with the boot facility it is godlike. As long as I have my cable with me I can boot to my puppylinux install wherever I am without the need to carry an extra USB key around.

Gave me some problems this version. Slow down my system like hell. InClose stopped working. Had to soft reset and then I unistalled it. Ver 1.3 worked fine, even with the extra accessory folder. Any information where I could find it? Thanks.

Incompatibilities with some devices(started in 1.6x) should be fixed at this release.

It works flawlessly on Mac OSX 10.4.5 WITH R/W Access on a FAT16 FS... I am able to mount my 4GB SD card, I have waited a very long time for this! You both have given me a GREAT early Christmas present! A 1000 Thank you's....

I get an error saying the cab file you provided is not a valid cab file. I was trying to open it with wince cab manager and cabwuz .

Ok, so I just used ZipGenius to open the CAB and turns out this is basically just a zip file (not like other cab files, so I'm sure thats why wince cab manager was complaining). This gives me what I need. I extracted teh files and will look at making this into a package for the Faria ROM kitchen :). Going through the registry entries now...

i seem to have a problem with this program.. i tried the versions 1.60 / 1.72 and 1.73

all versions install good on my PDA (HTC P3600) but when i activate it and i connect it to my PC, i get a text balloon right under just above my task bar that first says:
"new hardware found bla bla bla"...

and than another one that says:
"there were problems with installing the new hardware, the device will problebly not work"

and it doesn't... i dont see my storage card (2gb Emtec) under "my computer"
and when i look in configuration screen/devicecontrol/usb-controllers

it is there but with a yellow triangle next to it.
and when i double click it and look under devicestatus it says
this device wont start (code 10)

i think it has something to do with my usb drivers or something i dont know...

any one else some suggestions maybe?

Hi the cab is not just a zip file - its a cab based on xml, used for wm5 and smartphone - thats why wince cannot open it.

I'm having the same problem with my P3600 here.
But I guess it's related to the type of the card - SD or SDHC (SD 2.0 compliant).
I'm using a miniSDHC 4GB Sandisk card on my P3600 - this card can't be recognized by the built-in card reader on my Dell Inspiron 6000, nor on my Sony VAIO, nor on the USB card readers I tried (Bonzai USB 2.0 and generic SD/MMC USB card reader, all USB 2.0).
When I try to use P3600 with a standard Sandisk 2GB miniSD in the slot, WM5torage works fine.

Hey I've got XDA mobile 6 and when i activate this my computer recognizes that "mass storage device" and installs drivers for it, but it doesn't show up in "my computer". Is it conclusive that this will not work on 4gb SD cards>? a few posts back someone had posted that it worked with their 4gb card.

under stop hardware it recognizes the device as WM5storag WIZA100 USB Device

i don't have any notifications under device manager as described above.


EDIT: found the issue i was having, in the disk management i found the device had been listed as the same drive letter as one of my network drive mappings, once it switched it it worked slick as butter.
