Got a little app called Wake on LAN for PocketPC by Depicus. You enter the MAC address, ip address, subnet mask, and port on the ppc (my Universal). Tried using the MAC/ip address for the network card and for the wireless router. Neither worked - either for a wake up from off or from standby on XP Pro.

Have a Vonage modem in between the router and the network card. Perhaps that's preventing the wake up packet from getting through to the onboard network card.

Have wake up on LAN enabled and S3 wakeup enabled in PC BIOS (ASUS A8N32-SLI) and the onboard network card (Marvel Yukon) has wakeup LAN turned on.

The error message returned by the PPC wake up LAN app is "Could not find resource assembly". Whatever that means.

Any suggestions to get LAN wake-up working are appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried using a VNC client ? In my experience that one also sends the magic packet.

I've just recently been doing this, but I haven't used any special app on my PPC to do it. I installed orb on my PC and when I open my.orb.com on my PPC if it can't see the PC it will allow you to send a wakeup command to it. Things that I did to allow the wake up were,
1. Forward UDP port 7 from my router to the PC
2. Set the ACPI power saving mode in the computer BIOS to S3, this allows you to select wake from USB device in the BIOS. I did this too although my PC is connected by ethernet.
3. Well that was all really, if my BIOS had a wake on LAN setting I would have enabled it but it doesn't, so I didn't.

Perhaps you should make sure that UDP port 7 is forwarded to your PC's IP address. If the PocketPC wake on LAN app doesn't work give orb a shot, its a great service, and completly free. I have to ask why you have your modem between the router and PC, surely you would attach the modem to your router's WAN port and the PC to one of the LAN ports, or did you actually mean that the router was between the modem and the PC?

Hey, thanks a lot, shuflie, installing Orb and using it to send a wake-up worked!!! It wakes up the PC, then I can use my remote desktop app (z2Remote2PC) to send an [enter] command to log-on and control the PC. Nice one - thanks a lot!
