View Full Version : Jasjar - display sometimes mirrored?

Hi!
A few days ago, my Jasjar's display started to become horizontal mirrored after I resume from standby. The screen flickers from normal to mirrored several times per second :-(
I can temporarily fix it by applying some pressure on the display border and doing a few stand-by/resume cycles but after all, that's really annoying. I'm quite sure that there's some kind of cable broke inside my Jasjar but unfortunately, my warranty's gone and I have to repair it by myself.
Has anyone done something similar? Which spare parts might be needed? How much might it cost if I'll send it to an authorized Imate dealer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

Mine did exactly the same thing and was replaced under warranty from t-mobile, my guess was it was dry solder as opposed to a broken cable.
Not much help I know, but you're not alone in having the problem

Oh, if it's a dry solder, I guess I'm out of luck and the mainboard needs to be replaced :-(
So I'm going to find some very small screwdrivers and take a look inside.

sorry to ask but how come you're already out of warranty? your device can't be 1 year old yet.

My Jasjar did the exact same thing. Unfortunately, I bought it from a betch on eBay who did not tell me they were having problems with the unit. The device did the flickering for about a week as I was trying to get in touch with iMate and the seller (which I was unsuccessful with both), and then quit flickering. Unfortunately, the device has other problems now, as the screen is unresponsive for the first few seconds after startup.

What software do you have loading at startup? Check your \Windows\StartUp folder

isn't the IMEI enough for the warranty?

isn't the IMEI enough for the warranty?
it definitely *should* be enough but I've found no i-Mate service point here in Germany willing to do it for free
But now I've found a company which told me to repair my jasjar for about 30 EUR plus spare parts (which, I hope, doesn't involve a new display for about 200 EUR :( )

The mirror fault is due to over driving the display unit more than 180 degrees. Flex cable is damaged.
As such I understand they wont cover this in warranty since this is caused by the user twisting the display 380 degrees or even more.
Seen one particular unit which had one (1) cable left out of the whole bundle this flex consist of!

Not in my case it wasn't, I was very careful with the phone (as I have been with the replacement).

Okay, now I've got my Jasjar back (about 6 days after I've send it) and it's working great 8)
They've charged me 39 EUR (and 6 EUR for shipping and handling) which sounds really fair to me. Their address is http://www.handy21.de but unfortunately, the site is only german.
