Hi,
since i often use Opera Mini and Google Maps on my phone, i was really disappointed to find out that T-Mobile's latest rom, 2.26 aku2.3, missed it.
Luckily, i was able to extract a copy of Intent MIDlet Manager from MrClean 2.24 rom and create a CAB file out of it.
To install Intent MIDlet Manager on your phone simply download the attached CAB, copy it somewhere on your device and run it. The installer won't ask you wheter to install it on storage card or not, it'll install on \windows in main storage. The program can be uninstalled if you don't like it.
Some info:
Intent Java(R) MIDlet Manager (TAO GROUP)
Runtime MIDP 2.0: v10.1.7.551 (build 20060317)
The program has been patched with the patch you can find inside latest MrClean ExtROM. Before patching it asked confirmation everytime you tried to use the Internet, now it asks only once.
If you now where (in which rom) you can find a more recent version, let me know and i'll produce a new CAB.
Download the Intent MIDlet manager version 10.1.7.551 (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Misc/Intent_MIDlet_manager.cab)
Note: this version, 10.1.7.551, has been obsoleted by the new 11.1.7.1023.
The new version supports google satellite maps, sms and softkey in Opera Mini and add the JTWI compliance (in addition to MIDP 2.0).
I strongly suggest to install the new version instead of the one in this post.
The new version is available HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286604)

i downloaded and instaled this to my tmo mda after instaling the 2.26 update. i then went to google.com/gmm and /glm and i cant download the google maps thing. it keeps giving me a error. and yes i have full signal and can werbsurf, email etc...
when i try to download the google maps it opens the midlet magaer and it asks to instal i click yes then it goes immediately to 2 bars on the progress meter then stays like that for 5 mins then gives me a error saying it cant instal and cant locate the something.jar file or something like that .
how do i install google maps on my mda ?

Are you sure it didn't install? I'm going through the T-Mobile extended ROM and it's in there.

I installed this. Opera mini works fine but Google maps is very problamatic. The new version that shows traffic is not working at all. I have to kill it through the memory option.
Anyone else having this problem?

If you were able to extract this from a Rom, could you maybe also extract (only) the stuff that creates the MMS folder, without the other shortcuts? :)

I know that file, but can you adjust it in a way it only adds a MMS inbox and no further "shit"? :)
I don't need the Midlet Manager, the shortcut to it, the shortcut to ClearVue and things like that...I just want a freaking MMS inbox ;)

The install of the midlet manager seemed to run fine; did a soft reset and was able to bring up an address on google maps...but now both menus are non-responsive....has anyone got this to work on the MDA without crashing ? Oh I need to Update my signature, I just installed the new T-Mobile 2.26 ROM last night (which is working great - except for this)

Hi,
I almost forgot about this but i was using this on my axim x50.
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48558
Download the one for windows mobile 5.0 from here:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/zones/wireless/weme_eval_runtimes.html
I installed the regular midp 1.1 and it works fine so far. I have been testing my google maps applet via active sync for the past few mins and it actually doesn't crash or hasn't i should say. It even shows traffic which I don't really understand as I don't know what the different colors mean. But it works better then the intent one.

into,
Could you possibly upload just the WM5 cab file for this new IBM J9 version? That would avoid having to go through IBM registration, and installing a large installer file to desktop. Would be appreciated. Thank you.

I downloaded .cab file and installed it,but it doesn't run when i click it in program menu.(my PPC is iPAQ hx2190(WM5).
I tried IBM J9 and it worked good on my PPC,but I can't run some 3D games with it,
I don't know,Does MIDlet Manager can run these games or no?

I've dinked with several JVMs for the mda and the one that works best is the IBM J9 for wm 2003. For some reason the later versions dont work as well. I can run google maps perfectly on it, as well as stuff like flurrymail etc. Let me know if you want me to post the program on rapidshare

Tried it with Opera mini, Gmail java, Gmaps java and it works good with the direct wifi connection (no http proxy) on my Wizard ...
Anybody has succeeded in setting up an http proxy (like the tmobile t-zones proxy) to use with java apps with it ?

I decided to try out J9 since it was recommended by one of the blogs. I found that it was (a) difficult to install, (b) didn't run apps well, (c) a memory hog, (d) slow slow slow. Main thing I gained from the experience: I really appreciate the Tao Intent midlet manager.

I was so outraged by the #@*@#&%* IBM J9 midlet manager (primarily that even after a YEAR of no updates, when they came out with an update it still didn't support soft keys, and the "virtual" soft keys were placed such that the SIP covered them up...my blood still boils thinking about it).
Running the Midlet Manager posted here was GREAT (I have a PPC 6700)--it's faster, handles screen switching, doesn't take up the screen with virtual softkeys, allows me to use softkeys whether the SIP is up or not...but there were some tricky things (such as sometimes it switches away after confirming permission for network access) but generally fast and stable.
EXCEPT! Google maps crashes sometimes...Using this midlet manager is so much better than J9 that I might have kept using it...EXCEPT! that it ALWAYS crashes when I try to use Google maps to get directions :( :( :( (It says "routing" but then does nothing else...)
Is there any possible workaround?
Thanks,
Aaron

Anyone (besides me) having trouble with images in Google Maps with the latest IBM J9 Midlet Manager. The version made for WM2003 works fine, yet the latest version does the same as the Intent Midlet Manager and will not display images.

It seems that my Midlet manager wont connect to the internet. I have both the gmail plugin and google maps. I am running with the t-mobile proxy.
My IE and push and everything else works.
I'm running MIDP 2.0 v10.1.7.551
Any ideas?
thanks.
Has anyone managed to get gmaps work with gps over bluetooth?

Try http://map4pda.com/
This is an app-based approach. You can pick which maps you want (Google or Yahoo or...) You can do a local search or directions. PLUS... you can use a GPS device as well! This app just keeps getting better. I don't even mess with Google Maps anymore.

I need a little assist in actually installing this (and another) program. I've installed several programs on my MDA but they came as an executable that worked with ActiveSync to load on my phone. I have downloaded the Intent Midlet Manager and the Flash 7 player. Both have extensions of .cab but my system treats them as .zip files. What exactly am I suppose to do with these files to get them working on my phone? In the quote above you say "u run it." Run what? I'd sure appreciate it if someone could help me out on this.
Thanks!

Copy the cab file to you're MDA and run it from there. NOT on you're desktop.

Thanks! Does it matter where I install it on the MDA? Does it have to be in a particular folder? Will it run from the storage card?
