I'm seriously hoping he does! :) I upgraded to this ROM last night and it seems okay, but just not quite the same without summiter's touch.

I was using xelencin's 2.24 version. I backed up with SPB backup, used the installer above, and installed 2.26. Then, when the installation was complete, I prevented the customization (after the screen align, etc., when the 'customization will begin in 3 seconds' popup appears, perform a soft reset with the stylus), and restored the backup.

This seems to work fine.

I then used total commander to copy the /extended_rom/ T-Mobile customizations to the miniSD and installed a few of them -- smart dialing, phone_light, PP_Extversion (not sure what that does), and the updated Hotspot login.

Of course, I didn't get the advantage of cleaning up the system, but since I did a start-from-scratch build a month ago, that wasn't necessary.

This seems like a good idea. I might try to something like this myself. I ended up uninstalling the Hotspot since we don't have T-Mobile where I am and I figured it had to do with their network.

A question... how do you disable the "message sent" notification for SMS messages? I've searched the forum but I can't find it anywhere.

UPDATE: Nevermind about diabling "message sent". I found a the hack (http://www.htcwizardweb.net/node/149) for it.

Is there a depository somewhere with all the extended ROM cabs separated (and documented, what's what, what does what, etc) so you can just pick and choose what you want to install?

i just base my cabs off the files that xenelicin uses on his custom roms. when i first got the phone i donwloaded alot of cabs and yes there is a topic on this board somewhere with all the cabs and what they do. i still got a bunch i dont know exactly what they do so i never use em.

I'm downloading now!

I'm also using xelencin's 2.24 version, I been happy with it, "Upgrade or NOT to Upgrade - That is the question". How's the radio working?

prestonmcafee
29-07-2006, 08:35 PM
The radio is fine.

I tried running some of the t-mobile customizations from 2.26 and that caused things to slow down. Understand that I am doing these over xelencin's customizations, so there may have been conflicts. Here is what I installed (these are abbreviations):

enable ntiz
smartdial enable
edge icon
generic conn settings
generic ui
other conn settings
security policy
phonelight
pp extversion
gprsandedgeDTMF
ringtone
WISPA - (this is HOTSPOT)
camera

This turned out to be a bad idea and I rolled back to the customizations I was running in 2.24.

I'm going to wait for someone to sort out what the entire list of customizations is. Xelencin renamed the customizations (in a way to make them understandable) but that makes it harder for me to match them up.

I know there's a list of Cingular extended ROM cabs but does anyone know what each one does? I just pulled the T-Mobile extended ROM cabs too and I'm wondering what those do so I can pick and choose what I want to install.

Also, is there a way to create a cab with all the regedits so you can just execute that one cab?

What does T-Mobile USA have against the Midlet Manager? Why is it that they never include it? T-Mobile UK has it, and others as well.

Has anyone pulled just the Midlet Manager out of the UK 2.21 version? :P

My Caps Lock indicator is not displaying on the status bar. Has anyone noticed this behavior after the upgrade. In 2.24 I added this registry tweak to force the Caps Lock Indicator, but in 2.26 the entry won't stick after reboot.

I have an i-mate K-JAM, I flashed it with the Mr.Clean 2.24a ROM, and now to this T-Mobile 2.26 ROM. My device was also SIM unlocked to start with, and flashing it to to these ROMs did not lock the SIM.

I'm assumong it would be straight forward with your device since it is really a T-Mobile MDA Vario, so suppose to be no CID hassles. I on the other hand had to tweak the ROM a little by following a tutorial posted on this forum of how to flash any ROM to any Wizard.

actually i just found out that most of my registry tweaks didnt get carried over. so once i did all of those performance tweaks. gues wat? resco file explorer goes fast again. now the system is very responsive. as fast as before. hell its as fast as my eten m500. and i havent even overclock yet thou its there ready in case i need it. i quite like this rom. takes awhile for me to set up all the missing programs that didnt get carried over though. but its worth it!!!

however one registry dat dun stick is the dont delete cab after install tweak. it jus dont work!! i set the dynamicdelete to 0 and it still deletes my cab after i install it!!!

Eh, that question has been answered many a million of times. It will not re-lock your SIM. You do not have to unlock the CID if you have the MDA US version by T mobile.

And, like someone asked, is the Mr. Clean 2.24 radio better than the T Mobile updated 2.26 radio?

I'm wondering if the procedure quoted below would work for me....

I have the T-Mobile (USA) MDA, and still have the original ROM on it, 1.8.10.2 WWE, 12/10/05. I have never upgraded the ROM before, to Xelencin's or any other.

I have downloaded the new official T-Mo USA MDA ROM, but have not yet installed it.

It has taken me many hours over months to install all the apps I have on my MDA now(both on storage card and in main memory), I have tweaked many settings, etc. I don't remember all the steps I took to get my MDA to how it is now. I don't have much time, and am reluctant to have to start over from scratch, installing apps and tweaking, etc.

I also have SPB Backup, and was wondering about doing a full backup with it before the upgrade, doing the ROM upgrade, and restoring the backup--whether if I did that, I would retain all my present apps and settings. On another forum, some said you could do that, others said not to do it, it could ruin the MDA, etc.

I wonder if it would work to do it as Preston suggests below---during the ROM upgrade process, to perform a soft reset when I see the customization process, then restore the backup. Would that work from the original ROM that I have? What would I miss by not doing the "customizations"? (I don't know what they are.)

I'm not sure how one finds the Extended Rom customizations that Preston describes, and how to install them manually.

If anyone could explain this all to me--whether it would work with my system, about the customizations, etc., I would very much appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I have downloaed and installed this ROM into my newly got MDA and the biggest difference I can see is the battery life. The new communication manager is easier to manage but it seems to have problem with my Wi-Fi. I guess this ROM was made to conserve power and sacrifice the performance under the default settings. Everything works great so far and I will recommend T-Mobile customers to upgrade.

I just upgraded to the newest T-Mobile ROM on my MDA, and now every time I turn the Wi-Fi on the device will lock up for a bit. It will not read the wireless networks. Can anyone help? Has anyone had the problem of their device locking up with Wi-Fi on?

Regards,

Peter
