Hi all.

I cracked my digitizer... so went online and bought another one. Now before i make a mess of this and ruin the phone, i have got the whole LCD unit off the phone, but the contacts from the new digitizer seam a little different from the one on there... I have taken a pic of the current LCD with the part numbers so you can see what i currently have, and the one i bought is this link

Now also, how do i get the digitizer off the LCD, and get the contacts out from under all that orange stuff?? do you just peel the orange stuff back?

Heres some pics that may help.. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You've got the wrong digitiser. Your screen looks toppolly with the wide ribbon connector and the new touchscreen looks like it is made for sony with a narrow ribbon connector. You can slice the ribbon to open the tracks to make it fit but it is very fiddly.

It also looks like you don't have a frame around the new digitiser which means removing the old one and sticking the new one to it before soldering.

Hi Richard

Thanks for that. I have got back in touch with the guy in HK, and he has the other one, so im gonna swap it.

In regards to the frame, is this the metal frame around the outside? Do you have to solder the contacts on the ribbon to the LCD?

Im not quite sure how to attach the new digitizer

I have done a digitizer replacement. The soldering work can be tricky. What I did was cut the orange ribbon on the new digitizer short by about 1cm, then extend the traces with 22ga magnet wire (from radio shack in USA) and then solder the extentions to the contacts on the main ribbon. Covered with electrical tape then restuck the metal shield on top of that. Works fine several months now. Be very careful when unsoldering the old digitizer from the contacts, rip one of those out and you will have big problems. Sorry no pics but it was delicate work and I dont feel like tearing the IIS apart and risking a malfunction.
