Yeee, dedicated forum for TYTN !!!

This topic is for people who still did not buy the phone and waiting for a right deal or know of any place where TYTN can be purchased.

I know that you can get TYTN on Vodafone, www.expansys.com and www.MobileFun.co.uk on contract.

Does anyone know of any place where I can buy TYTN on t-mobile contract?

I have called www.MobileFun.co.uk and they said that new contracts should be available later this month.

same with me. lady on the phone advised to check back their website regularly, as exact release date is not yet known, however it should be available 'soon'.

in my opinion, T-Mobile waits with testing device properly and/or for the latest ROM supporting HSDPA. The Register announced about month ago that T-Mobile is planning HSDPA network launch on 1st of August, but nothing like that happened...

Thats great news. The best deal I found so far is on O2
700 min 100 txt £50p/m 12m/c £53 for tytn on Expansys, now they increased the device price for the same contract to £111 :(

This is ideal for international calls because on o2 you do not pay 0870 & 0845

The TyTN is free at buymobilephones on a £30 contract (18 month) with Orange.

http://www.buymobilephones.net/store/merchant-4-75-936-Phones.ihtml

The device is available at this price on the Orange Canary & Racoon packages.

I am not really fussed which network I end up on as long as I find the best contract/price combination. I've had a look around and can't see this deal bettered elsewhere, anyone?

Great !!!! That is by far the best deal. They state that the phone is htc m3100 but the photo shows TyTn. I'll check and give an update.

I will wait for t-mobile, because of unlimited data allowance.
Some people say that it might be data locked when it comes out. ... I hope not.

Bought and paid for a couple of hours ago,
they may get the phone to me by tomorrow, in which case its goodbye weekend (if you are reading this thread you'll know what I mean). Failing that I hope to have it by Monday. Had to shell out £25 for a micro SD (transflash).

As it stood the Orange package was too tempting and I doubt that the price was going to be beaten regardless of the carrier I went with. I have used that particular website before, they are pretty good although they did have the Qtek 8500 (for girlfriend) on for free on a £25 tariff on O2 then they then changed all the tarrifs and jacked the price up, i'm not taking any chances.

fekson
10th August 2006, 04:34 PM
You might be right, that happened on Expansys (see above). The thing for me is that I make a lot of international calls and on o2 I don't pay for them.
So if I was on Orange 700min p/m I would need to pay: 700x7.5p=£52.5 more than on o2.
This is because 0870 & 0845 numbers are included in free minutes.

There's no mention of a data package to go with this, how much are they charging for that?

Sherbet66
10th August 2006, 06:45 PM
Hi,

Data package is about £4 for 4 megs of data or £10 for 10 megs (see orange website for exact data charges). Its a pound a meg if you go over your allowance, be wary of T Mobile re this, they charge a whopping £7 a meg if you go over your allowance. I reckon with a data bundle and insurance i will be about £40/45 a month, pretty much what i pay now with T Mobile.

I'm almost positive HSDPA is NOT available on O2 yet. I called customer services - they said no.

If you search on the internet, they've always claimed Q3 2006.

Oh, and O2's data prices suck big time. £3 per MB and there is no "unlimited" package - unlike TMobile.

As soon as the Vario II is released - I'm done with O2! Hello Web n Walk!

For data I go for the orange sim (payg) amd swap it in - its £1 for unlimited use in 24hr period. I dont batter it everyday so for high use days (weekends) I use the Payg sim and week days I use my standards allowance.

On Raccoon 70/m you get unlimited usage but it has a whole wealth of t and c's.

Got my M3100 yesterday - its ace, a fully orange branded m3100 with activesync orange branded software.

Alas no data card with it so shelled out 23 quid for a 1gb - should be enough.

Its not crashed yet - but will have to adjust the close button so it closes not minimises - I had 12 apps running and still worked fine....just a wee bit sluggish.

today's 14th, and on german website Vario II is still marked as 'coming soon'. probably german webmasters are still asleep. :) UK website still doesn't include Vario II at all, even as 'coming soon'. :( however, in T-Mobile UK printed leaftets, which you can pick up at shops, there is Vario II already!

Yes, I was relaying on the info about 16th. Also websites that sell TyTn said that near the end of August there will be more contract deals. At the moment there are only o2 and Vodafone contracts for TyTn and Orange for m3100.

I think I will either buy on o2 because of 0870 & 0845 scenarios or t-mobile because of unlimited WnW.

On another tread I read that orange do £1p/d for unlimited data usage.

Happy waiting.

I was going to switch to t-mobile when the tytn was released in the UK. A speculative phone call to orange, last week, led to what I think is a cracking deal.

I have three phones on a business share. Orange dropped the tarif (from 700 to 400), but doubled my free bundled minutes (from 400 to 800). On an 18 month contract I am also getting a 50% line rental discount for 9 months.

On top of that I'm getting a £5 monthly credit to put towards a data bundle.

I estimate that my average monthly spend will drop from £170 to about £100 with increased voice call and data usage. In addition I get new phones (3 sharing) of M3100, K800i, and K610i, all at no cost (free - notwithstanding the ongoing account charges).

They did just about enough to keep me. The new account charging structure is competitive with the marketplace and I have no disruption (or additional cost) changing networks.

I remain a bit concerned about Orange however, as getting through to customer service is next to impossible and they seem a shadow of the organisation they were prior to the France Telecom revolution.

what a crap! i've spoken with telesales on the same number as you just few minutes ago. guess what guy said - Vario II will be released in about two weeks time! the same telesales told you about 17th August - so where is a logic here?? :/ T-Mobile is really pissing me off in that matter, i'll wait until end of this week, otherwise i'll truly consider Vodafone offer on VPA compact III / v1605 or maybe Nokia E61, which is really nice phone by the way!

Hi,

My phone has been delivered to my house a couple of minutes ago, I am currently in work  .

I did speak to Orange to clarify some points although from what I have read on this forum some people are more knowledgeable on data tarrifs than I, however Orange customer services informed me if you ask to "try the 3G service" you will get 1000meg a month for 3 months in order than you find your level on the data tariff, they are probably hoping that we forget about the 3 month limit and continue hitting the data hard. After this period I plan on pegging my data at a 10 Meg bundle. I am sort of hoping that Web and Walk will prompt Orange to offer something similar.

I would agree that T Mobile's web and walk service is good although have been lead to believe it does have a few caveats (i.e., certain data streams are disallowed, such as windows mobile messenger). Its academic really as I am T Mobile at present and cannot afford the upgrade.

They have the best customer service imaginable and unusually manage to beat Expansys on most new devices. Chris managed to source JASJARs before anyone else.

on VODAFONE a v1605 (nice!) 18 month contract 700mins anytime plus 1000 txts which can be used as webtime, 3 months half price line rental on a £35 tariff (£17.50) free 512 micro sd card(was supposed to throw in a 256mb but had non in stock so they supersized me to 512mb!) 3 months free insurance and phone was supposed to cost £100 on that tariff but also got that waived oh yes also got a high speed pay as you go mobile wireless card for £50 instead of £100. very happy with that deal and phone is great been waiting for t-mobile to bring out the vario2 but they haven't even got dates yet so i gave up on them.

After reading about the T-mobile UK press release (re. the vario ii), I decided to phone up T-Mobile CS and they said the phone was due "any day" now. Having asked the price, it depends on what type of discount your line is entitled to; for me it's still £239.99 !!!

What sort of prices are other UK providers offering this variant for (on upgrade)? Gives me something to use against T-mobile when my upgrade is actually due (29/08)!

as already gazzrenn noticed, calling T-Mobile's telesales is just pointless. i've called today, result - by the end of this week, maybe next week and no price information yet. yeah, so why on official press release it says that Vario II is *already* available for customers??? :/

Do t-mobile allow early upgrades at all, obviously for a price, but ive been wondering wether to get a htc tytn or wait for the t-mobile version of the tytn.

The only thing about the htc tytn that puts me off its the buttons on the front, i think there quite ugly and badly designed.

As far as i know, once you've started a contract, you have to complete it in order to get your next one. I'm coming to the end of my 18 month (end of Sept.) and when i phoned up yesterday, they said you'll have to wait until that date else pay the 'T-mobile retail' price (i.e. without any loyalty discount).

By signing for a certain period of time for a new contract, you are effectively subsidising for the cost of the phone, therefore are required to fulfil the T&Cs.

Just called Orange customer care to request my PAC number (been with them 2 years )... of course they werent happy!
I told them that was going to T-Mobile because they would not upgrade me for free to M3100 at my local Orange shop...
The lady from Orange offered me a tariff called Select 500??? (never heard of it before, and you would think they want to promote their own Orange animal) which includes 500min crossnet talk and 60 texts for a very reasonable 25 pounds a month!!! And the M3100 for free of course.
Sounded very very good...
Unfortunately no data bundles included and they dont have it in stock... due in a couple of days...
What do people think of the offer?
And whats the deal with Orange data, do they do high speed 3G connectivity yet or only GPRS?

I dont mind paying retail price for the device from t-mobile, im quite happy to continue the contract. I was going to get tytn from an online retailer. I considered ebay, but you dont get a warranty or a proper receipt, so htc "might" repair a fault, but no one will insure it without a proper uk receipt.

Thanks for your reply, Ive just gave them a call, theve given me a price for the Vario II, I basically pay off the rest of the Vario and buy the other Vario II at t-mobiles subsidised price for the rest of the contract term.

Still works out cheaper than buying a HTC Tytn

Ive just taken the 'try' option on my orange account which gives me 1000meg for the first 3 months - as previously posted I know but just thought I would confirm they still offer this. Strange thing is they say the data can only be used for browsing not downloading.but last time I used the try option I could download and never got charged - guess they mean ringtones that you pay for.

Well Ill stick with the free data for three months and hopefully they will have a web and walk style ovp.

When you go into the device info on the m3100 says that it is a Herm100 device too. In case anyone needed to know that.

Thanks

Thats the very reason i'm waiting for T-Mo to release the phone.

I already have a contract with my Vario, but i got a ood deal on line rental for that one, so selling the phone on eBay will fund the remainder of the contract.

Vodafone - QTEK v1605 0800 06 86 560
Phone is available now.
18 month contract phone cost 53+VAT - 200 mins + 500 texts which go over GPRS to can be used as web surfing (25mb)

12 month contract phone cost 100+VAT V- 200 mins + 500 texts which go over GPRS to can be used as web surfing (25mb)

Was just wondering did you phone up for that deal? Could you tell me how much each of those contracts are each month? As I went into a shop and on the 25 & 35 pound a month contracts the phone was 100 and free respectivly but I didn't get a lot of mins and texts. I really think i need a lot of texts as I am not sure how much data I am gonna use.

But I really do hope the Tmobile phone is out very soon as I am getting more and more tempted to go for a Vodaphone or Orange deal.

I did call up yeh, i told the guy i was looking for a decent bundled data plan. and wasn't too fussed about the cost of the phone.

Give them a ring and see what they can offer you.....

EDIT - personally, i'd give T-Mobile a few days / week to see what they can offer, don't forget... they have full HSDPA and very reasonably priced data bundles.

just spoke to orange retentions aswell, as i only have a month left on my contract, it would appear as if i am going to get one for free when they come back into stock someone will call me,

the good thing is the contract i a retaining is for my partner, which means as soon as i get the m3100, i'm off to t-mobile for my contract with W'n'W get the phone the misses likes "prob a lg choclate" then just get the phones unlocked and swap them over. that way the misses keeps her orange number and plan, but with a t-mobile choclate,

i get a orange m3100 (looks better then the t-mobile version imho) with a t-mobile sim with W'n'W in it.. the best of both worlds :)

does anyone know if i will have any problems with doing it this way?

from what i can rememeber the only difference should be the rom version, and aslong as i change the internet settings on the m3100 i should be able to use T-Mobiles W'n'W with 3g and hpds(or whatever its called) with out too much of a problem shouldn't I?

Well, had the M3100 for 3 days now, first impressions are very positive and the device is fully specced in just about every way possible. Having come from a T Mobile mda compact I like the size of the device and the many, many bug fixes and hardware improvements and “extras” this offers. I’m know there are comprehensive reviews out there so I will not go into great detail, however here are some issues and comments relating specifically to the Orange M3100 branded device.

A couple of things to note;

• Orange has removed Windows Messenger from this device and it cannot be reloaded unless you pay £11 for MSN messenger (pretty much the same). This is pretty nasty, I dislike paying for something for free and I scoured the net for days looking for a workaround, both legitimate and, well, you can guess, there is no workaround for this yet that I could see. Orange for whatever reason has not paid to include this function in the device. I’m now £11 poorer and pissed off. http://mobile.msn.com/

• Not many of my 2003 “essential” apps work well with 5.0, Pocket Breeze, Pocket Informant, Resco File Explorer to name but a few. Bear this in mind; I have upgraded all of those. Costly.

• I do find the device slightly sluggish, I have been throwing apps on and off like a man possessed in the last day or so but I am not too sure as to why this is, I will perform a hard reset tonight and rebuild it to see if that helps. If its still slow I might have to look at the customisation of the ROM that Orange has done, I’m not brave enough to do away with the Orange customisation just yet until I get more information on what I might lose. I know that 5.0 is a slightly slower OS that 2003. This is an ongoing issue. Once I know I can remove this customisation without causing myself real grief its gone.

• Sound quality and signal strength is great, battery performance is so/so (I’ve been using it a lot though) and general all round usability is superb.

• Data is a real issue, its going to cost me dear, I was aware of this before I went with Orange (I had done my homework), weigh this up carefully when deciding on an operator.

I would highly recommend this device to everyone reading this forum.

Kyri

Not sure quite where to put this but thought I would put it here for people buying a TYTN/V1605 from vodaphone.

I went into a shop today to clarify a few things, unfortunetly not being a business shop they couldn't really help. BUT one thing he did say was that come November time Vodaphone are gonna be bringing out a similar deal to Tmobiles Web n Walk deal. He didn't know anymore info but it means those peeps who have got contracts with large amounts of text included, come November time won't be able to use them for data you will have to sign on to this new scheme.

Hope that helps some people out.

not only you. i've called them again today, she (or he, i don't remember) said it is expected during this week, as they are still testing this device. after that i've called Hounslow T-Mobile shop, guy there said they don't have Vario II on stock and it's expected in few weeks! but when i called the same shop last friday, i was told that Vario II is coming very shortly. this is completely paranoid!! ://

i was offered really nice deal from Vodafone - 500 minutes and 500/25 sms/MB for only 28 pound a month (special offer for Heathrow Airport staff) and our beloved Hermes for only 45 pounds (+100 deposit)! but i really prefer T-Mobile, as they have unlimited web'n'walk and better international call/sms rates than Voda, so that's why i;m so desperate calling TM telesales daily...

The line was extremely bad when talking to sales, but from what I can gather I am getting the Vario II for £79.99 with £5.99 delivery on Flext 25 with Web & Walk for £22.50 a month! Apparently there's a £5 discount on all line rentals at the moment, but even with that surely the rental should be £27.50?

Oh well, I'm not going to argue...

It should be delivered tomorrow morning hopefully. Then I can finally retire my poor XDA II, which can barely even make phone calls anymore. Maybe I went too far expecting it to work with WM5 flawlessly after a year of ROM upgrades?

Well I've had my Vario II a few days now and I absolutely love it! Coming from an XDA II, I'm particularly impressed with the screen quality (very bright and sharp, with none of the contrast issues which plagued the XDA II) and the speed of the device.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the colour scheme, which is far more subdued than the images online would have you believe. The so-called 'pink' colour of the keyboard surround is actually a nice faded metallic red, and I think it fits in well with the brushed silver of the front housing. I was surprised to find that the backlight of the keyboard itself is a bright red, as I expected it to be blue.

Web & Walk works better than I had expected, with steady high speeds and a nice portal when starting the browser (something other providers could learn from). I'm also experiencing wireless internet for the first time, and love the ability to sit and browse the web at 8Mb speeds from anywhere in the house!

I just called O2 to get my PAC and cancel my contract and was told something rather interesting which I hadn't read elsewhere. Apparently the XDA Trion is in fact coming to the UK on O2 sometime next month. Obviously I'd take that with a pinch of salt, but it's worth considering if you're already with O2 and you want a Hermes. Personally, I'm glad to be free of their awful online billing system - I haven't been able to view a bill on their website for almost the entire length of my three year contract!

Cheers M15chief, unfortunately i don't think this download was an option when i paid up for MSN messenger; I spent ages looking for it. I’m kicking myself now for not waiting but I suppose it’s one of these things. I can at least console myself by publicising the fact that the beta for live messenger is available for download to at least give people an option before shelling out their hard earned money.

Thank you to everyone with all the helpfull info.

I have been scanning these threads for a while re: Trion/Tytn info and it looks like a T-mobile plan with WnW is the best all round plan option to go for.

I have an XDA IIi and really fed up with the way it works (or dosent work )
Ill be upgrading soon so you can imagine i really want to get something a bit more up to date that works well for simple things like answering a call with out a delay or not randomly crashing when i want to make a call!

From what i've read about the TyTn, it sounds like its up to the job but I know from years of experience with new hardware/software, that they dont always work smoothly as intended. my concenrs with the TyTn is the slower CPU speed and how speed may degrade once its loaded up with usefull third party apps that make the devide even more usable.

Anyway enough of my ranting, I just spoke O2 CS and the guy told me that they will be launching the XDA Trion on the 14th of September (we will see)

btw, is it an easy process to move numbers from O2 to sat T-mobile? I havent done this since i moved from Orange to O2 7years ago?

grayhaze
31st August 2006, 05:45 PM
Well I've just started the process to move my number from O2 to T-Mobile (I also previously did the same thing from Orange to O2 a good few years ago) and so far it's painless.

Once you've struggled through the O2 website, you'll discover that you need to call 0870 600 7102 and select the relevant options to get put through to cancellations. You then just tell them that you want to transfer your phone number to another network and cancel your account. In my case it took two days to receive a text with the PAC (Porting Authorisation Code). They should not charge you for this.

If you have already signed up for a contract with T-Mobile, you then need to call 0870 606 0139 and choose the relevant options. You'll be asked for your current T-Mobile number, your PAC and your O2 number. You'll also be asked to confirm your details and be given the option to set up a password for future use with customer services.

The transfer takes seven days from your request, at which point your T-Mobile SIM will register with your new number and your O2 account will be cancelled, rendering your O2 SIM useless. You may need to reboot the phone, but I can't give any further details until I've finished the process myself. ;)

Hope that helps. :)

The £1 for all day unlimited data on Orange pay as you go is great but does anyone know if it is valid for 3G data and not just GPRS? Also do Orange even have HSPDA yet? like t-mobile do?

Hi guys, great thread. I agree T-Mobile WnW seems to be the best option and finally enough to tempt me away from Vodafone.

What I would like to know, is which model is best to go for. I will get the Vario II and sell it because it looks pretty awful in my opinion. I am then torn between the HTC Tytn and the Imate JasJam. Can anybody offer any advice on this delimma? I am mostly interested in the performance differences between the two.

Hi Guys, found this thread today, very helpful - thank you!

A couple of questions...

1. Is the T-mobile unit a true Tytn clone? I only say that because the T-mobile unit appears to be 300MHz and the Tytn is 400MHz
2. I'm coming from an XDAII and will be using it for navigation, etc. I previously had a wired TomTom 3. I want to buy a new Bluetooth GPS system. Is anyone using one with their MDA and if so, what works well? (I'd like to use TomTom 5).

Thanks in advance!

who lied to you that badly? ;> of course all Hermes/TyTN incarnations are having 400 MHz CPU, including MDA Vario II. regarding second question, i have no experience in using navigation, so i can't help you with that.

Thanks for your help. It was expansys who said it was 300MHz:
