Hi there,
Has anyone reflashed the dopod rom on the German Trion? I was wondering how to get around the qwertz keypad? Is there some registry hack to let the rom know what type of hardware keyboard the device has?
Thanks in advance

Try this registry hack:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"Locale"=0407

I've just bought a Taiwanese Chinese CHT 9000. I am planning to flash it with the english ROM but I am not sure if this is safe yet. I've heard of it working properly but will prolly wait for a while.

I gave it a try on the German Trion and it does not work with the availiable English rom on this site. I think the ROM just does not support this mapping. Is there some lib/dll file that should exist on the german rom that should be copied?

I have a German O2 Trion with English ROM and had the same problem. The [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd] does NOT work. Here is the best fix I have found:
goto the following registry entry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
There is a key called 'Layout'
The original value I had in mine was 132105.
Change this to 66567 and do a soft reset.
All of the Letters will now work as they are labeled on the keyboard and most of the special characters will also work. The only annoying issue now is that the windows key and tab key are shifted over.
If anyone has a 100% workaround, please post.

Can you update the wiki with this info? If it's useful for you, sure it will be for others!
Thanks :)

Please try 132103 (decimal) or 20407 (hexadecimal).
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in hex).
I guess the suitable value for German Hermes keyboard is 20407 (132103 in decimal), not 10407 (66567 in decimal). Probably Hermes use 20+country ID (409=WWE, 407=German, 404=Trad. Chinese, etc...) format for keyboard layout value.

Thanks gmike and kyunga,
Your solutions together worked.
Changing the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty]
key to 132103 worked perfectly.
Every key and associated symbol comes out as exactly typed. The Windows and tab key also works.
And for the Aussie's who were looking to get the Trion for use down under the dopodo english rom works perfectly with the German Trion and with the extended rom settings if it doesn't detect the proper network it asks you what Asian country your in and set all the settings accordingly (I suppose Australia is now counted as an Asian country as now they are qualifying for the World Cup through the Asian group). For Australia it includes Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone - not sure about 3 though as I quickly skipped through it.
