View Full Version : Dual sim adaptors, any success?

I have tryed two different dual SIM adaptors on TyTN and none of them works
I've tried Ghost Dual SIM: (no cut)
http://pof.eslack.org/archives/images/ghost_dual_sim.png
This is the old version of the famous Ghost Dual SIM, which has no menu, it is the model where you have to swich the phone off and on again.
This one doesn't feet between the phone and the battery, you have to hold the battery yourself and can't put the plastic cover.
Anyone tried with a newer version of it?
And this Dual SIM Holder: (cut)
http://pof.eslack.org/archives/images/thumb-dualsimholder.png
I've also heared that you loose 3G capabilies of your SIM cards when you put them on a dual sim adaptor, you can only use 2G. Anyone knows if this is true?
Anyone having good experience with dual sim adaptors on TyTN? Which models have you tried?

I tried to use the Dual sim holder (cut)! It works for me perfectly! I suppose I can use the UMTS too, becouse the "U" is active on the tray (not the "G") and the download speed is: 284.8 kbit/s. Is it faster than the GPRS?

Yes, UMTS is a lot faster :D
Which dual sim holder is it? do you have to turn off the phone and then on again to switch sims or do you have an "special" menu on the phone to do it?
Also, are both SIMs 64K or more?
Thanks!

No, I have two very old sim's (V1 card from 2001).
I don't have to turn on and of the phone to switch between the sim's. I can swich online using the dual sim menu.
I think the speed is low becouse of the sim's, not becouse of the dual sim holder. but I'm not an expert user.
If you have any other information, please write becouse i'm very intrsested in it.

I've done two tests:
1) I tried with one v1 SIM and one 32K SIM on the Dual SIM Holder (cut), but the one which has no special menu to switch the SIMs. This setup was working perfect on my old BlueAngel, but doesn't work on my TyTN, it sees as if there was no SIM card on the phone :(
2) I tried with two 64K sim on the Ghost Dual SIM (no cut), also the one without special switch menu. TyTN also sees as if there was no SIM card. :(
Probably I'll have to buy the Dual SIM Holeder (cut) with special menu and try it, but I don't have more v1 SIM cards... grr!! too bad! :?

Hi pof,
I tested my PDA with a new 3G SIM card. The max. download speed was 310 kbit/s by UMTS and 145 kbit/s by EDGE with dual SIM holder. And without the holder the results were the same. So i think the dual sim holder works perfectly in my TyTN with UMTS too. The only different in the speed was becouse the V1 is an older and slower SIM. Maybe.

Great news to hear that it's working!!! 8) :o :D
I've just bought one of those Dual Sim 10th Gen, Auto STK Menu, Universal holder cut (http://cgi.ebay.com/Dual-Sim-10th-Gen-Auto-STK-Menu-Universal-holder-cut_W0QQitemZ150020866722QQihZ005QQcategoryZ10364Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) which include the STK (Sim Tool Kit Menu) on eBay, although it says: and there is no guarantee that this item will work with 3g or 128k Sims, but my SIMs are 64K.
Will post my comments when I get it!

Anyone any more info on TyTn Dual Sim?
I'm off to buy one now, so any recommendations on what to buy would be appreciated (even if you're not 100% sure it will work). I'm looking for something that will take 2G/3G sims.
Thanks.
Andrew.
P.S. I'll post back the results when i finally get the VarioII

Forgive the ignorance, can anyone tell me if you can receive a call on either your cut sim (personal) or sim (work) at any one point in time?
Or are you only available to receive 1 incoming line at any one point in time?
pof
23rd August 2006, 02:03 PM
You can't recive calls in both phone numbers (unless you make a call forwarding from one to the other).
Those devices only let you switch from one SIM to another without actually having to take out the battery and switch the SIM card, but only one SIM is operaitonal at a given time.

Depends if you believe their spiel on their features:
“AUTO SWITCH” feature enables you to receive messages and phone calls on both number synchronously ( Auto switch is set in the on screen menu) timing of 0 to 99 minutes can be set for switching.
Anybody have any idea how that might actually work?

It will switch lines at the predefined time you specify, but you can ONLY receive messages or phone calls on the line that is currently active. Anything to the other line will go to voicemail. It sometimes doesn't switch lines though, and gets stuck in flight mode instead, and NO lines are active. I don't know if it's phone, network, or dual SIM issue, but FYI. I would like a Dual SIM where you don't have to cut the SIM either. Actually, I wish all the the phone carriers would have stuck with V1 spec SIM cards so we could clone them onto a single card. Oh well.......

works fine.
When you switch the sim using the apllet provded it puts the ppc in flight mode and it should then put it automatically off flight mode and the other sim is then active. If it hangs, you may need to put it manually back off flight mode, and it works.

Under Programs you automatically get a new link "Dual SIM Card."
You do the switching by running the program and clicking on the SIM card (1 or 2) that you want to activate.

Hi! If you need some BIG photos you can find them here (http://www.agemobile.com/home/node/119). I've tried to write a guide to help in cutting operation, but the guide is in Italian. (Click on the photo to enlarge them).
After seeing the photos if you need more instruction, please, ask me.

Thanks matrix - the pics are great.
I am still stuck though I guess - the circuitboard does not seem to work on my device as, depite having cut the sims I can still get them work in my device (so I have not damaged the sims).
When I place the sims in the circuitboard, the circuitboard in the device, then switch the phone on, I get a message asking me to insert a sim card. Switching the phone and off again does not solve the problem - neither putting the phone on flight mode and back on again.
The one I got is the so-called Dual Sim 10th Gen, Auto STK Menu, Universal holder cut. Did I pick up the wrong one?
Can the circuitboard be incompatible with the Hermes?
Someone on thios forum got it to work though (see earlier posts on this thread).
Thanks for any help/advice you may provide.

I haven't yet the TyTN and i can't try the adapter in it.
The only advice I can give you is to try the DUAL SIM ADAPTER in other phones because many times the problem is that it doesn't make contact!
Just some days ago I have bought one for my uncle and I've made the full operation of cutting and putting the DUAL SIM ADAPTER in the Nokia 3510i. I've lost 3 hours to make it work because the DUAL SIM ADAPTER doesn't make contact.
You have to put a thickness on the DUAL SIM ADAPTER to make contact (between the adapter and the battery). Try in this way. If it doesn't work try to remove the cover of the DUAL SIM and press directly on the CHIP if you can. Try more time in this way to be sure that the adapter work or doesn't work and if it work you can try to put it in the TyTN.
P.S. The dual sim adapter that I have bought is "Dual Sim New 10th Gen, Auto STK Menu, UNIVERSALE". The seller is very serious ;-)
P.P.S. See the cover of the dual sim adapter and see if the tongues are large or small. If them are small (like this (http://www.agemobile.com/staff/matrix866/sim_taglio/)) they are ok. If them are large this maybe a reason for which the adapter doesn't make contact.

Just checking that even though the sensor plate on top of the SIM is larger than the template area I'm going to cut around that this is just the sensor and not the SIM.
See the pictures of matrix866's and assume that the actual SIM is smaller than the sensor plate.....
Just a little bit cautious !!

But the tytn doesn't have the battery as the back cover so it should be ok in this respect. Not sure if this holder will wrap round the battery ok though.
my battery cover is flimsy so squeezing a dual holder in may pop it off!
I'm using the second one on the page and so far it is not possible to switch via a menu or inputting a code. You have to turn the phone off via comm manager then it switches ok.

On my SIMs it is writen on the back side (plastic) of the SIM card.
I guess you can also know it by checking the amount of contacts you are able to store... but don't know specific details about it.
Are 3G sims 128k by default, and 2G 64k?
AFAIK it doesn't matter, this value just says the available memory the SIM card has (how many contacts / sms / etc... are you able to store on the SIM).

I bought a dual sim adapter from www.multimobile.nl witch looks quite similar to the cards I have seen sofar from E-bay.
Problem I have is that it works fine ie it starts up and goes to Sim1 quite nicely however if I go to the dual sim menu and press sim2 it does not switch...
Phone goes into flight mode and after a couple of seconds it logs Sim1 on again....????
Tried it in 3 other phones and works fine in them....

I've just bought this, and before I cut my sims I'd like to clarify a few points.
1. What is STK? Any information gladly received. Can I continue to use my today plug-in (I'm M3100 on orange, and quite fond of the orange interface).
2. Can I turn a SIM off (while leaving it in the phone) so that calls and incoming sms dont ring the phone.
3. Can I autoswitch so that incoming calls/sms on either sim alert the phone.
4. How do I define which sim is used for sending a text or making a call.
I appreciate this may be covered elsewhere, but I'm not able to find it and would like to ask the stupid questions so I know exactly what the situation will be when I have the two sims installed.
Thanks in advance for any help.

STK is short for sim toolkit menu...
What is does is as soon as you put in de dualsimcard it will generate an extra menu called dual sim....
In that menu you can define your active sim.....and switch to the other sim when you want to...or you can tell the menu to auto switch every 0-99 minutes....
So you can only have 1 active sim at a time.
You keep all tour today plugins aswell full UMTS capability.
The only thing tou do is cut away acces plastic...wich you dont need.....
Works like a charm for me.....:D

I have one other problem. The template for cutting my sim, provided in the box, seems to bear no relationship the the contacts on the card - ie I would be cutting accross the apparent contacts of the sim (newest generation) if I followed the cutting pattern. Surely this is wrong?
Are new generation sims the wrong size to work with this holder?
Is the cutting advice in the packet incorrect?
Obviously I'm a bit nervous about cutting across the contacts of my sim card....
Edit - operator information added:
It's an orange sim card (contract) and an orange sim card (payg) that I want to use. Anyone with any experience of latest issue orange sim cards in the UK?

Help
I have put a dual sim card in my SM3100 and can't get one of sims to work.
Its not a straight forward problem of the card broke. I have both a 10th (2 of) and a 13th generation adaptor's and I get the same issues with both.
The phone sees both cards (other is T-mobile and is always fine) and it picks up the number in the application that the card adds. I can even swap from one to the other and everthing looks fine, nice strong signal when they come up. The problem is when I try and make a call from my phone with the orange SIM I get an operation failed message.
This will be unconnected but I thought I would mention that it was working fine before my number was ported over and it does work now and again (say 1 in 15 goes) now.
I have put the sim in the resume card and it works fine.
Any thoughts?

Just as a follow up. I decided to buy myself a sim cutting tool. Which I duly used on two recent orange uk sim's. One payg, one contract. The dual sim adaptor recommended by pof did not recognise the sims at all.
I placed the sims in the resume sim blanks and both sims worked fine as before.
So I think this generation sim adaptor does have a problem with the latest orange sim cards, whatever their specification is.
I would very much like any recomendations from people who have any dual sim holder working with latest orange uk sims.

On my primary card T-Mobile US (310-260 Post-paid) no problems at all, also with other European cards - Orange PL (260-03 Prepaid) and PL PlusGSM (260-01 Prepaid) no problems.
Remember that STK on adapter disabled embeded STK on card, which may be needed to run SIM card.

"I do have 64K USIM (3G) card from Cingular US (310-410 Prepaid) and have same problem. I does not work." - even in your - "I use 13th Generation Adaptor."?
AFAIR 13th Generation Dual-SIM adaptor [CUT] is the newest one. Guy I bought it from had on description of adaptor that it will work with SIM cards not 3G SIM cards.
3G SIM card is also know as USIM - thou mine prepaid 64kB USIM card from Cingular is not working.
That is why my assumption is that in future on next generation of adaptors it might work.
Here few of people reported that UMTS works, but this is about their cards, their are not USIMs but network allows them to use 3G services.
"Could you also explain what you mean by this? "Remember that STK on adapter disabled embeded STK on card, which may be needed to run SIM card."
On one of my card I have STK putted by network operator. It gives me when I want it TV Schedule, GPS location, nearest movie theatre - it sends SMS to operator and it knew where I am, check against database and sends me via SMS answer. On other card I had STK which allowed me to easier use mobile banking - when you put your SIM card to adaptor STK on card is unavaliable.
My assumption is that maybe on USIM there might be hiden STK which is required by operator to work and STK on adaptor disables it so, there is internal problem and it does not want to work.

I just got my super twin card, it is the same as the other cut ones and says it has the STK. My question is (before I cut or play with my sims) where is the STK? Will it just appear when I plug the sim in or is there supposed to be some disc or software that need to be installed before proceeding. My holder did not come with any other thing - can someone tell me please?

Let me explain it to you.
In twin card you will prabobly have black chip, by the cut corner - in which you have STK which controles which card is in use etc.
STK will apear in Programs - icon blue SIMcard, and name "Dual SIM card" - there is no software to install. This is what STK is all about - program inside SIM card what will work in almost all mobile phones.
If you have any other question fell free to ask :)

I have experimented and am disappointed. It took a bit of fiddling to get it to work because it needed more pressure to make contact.
The good news:
If the spongy sticker is applied and forced down it functions. I use one prepaid vodafone sim and one 3(three) full featured sim for their umts network. 3's sim had no markings to tell me about its type. With this setup I could switch between sims to make and receive calls using both networks.
The bad news:
There is a long delay between switching sim and being able to access phone settings. About 5-10 times normal on my device. umts functionality is not stopped. If I connect a page loads at high speed as normal for ~1 second, after that the network kicks me off. It seems like as the posts above suggest, something is missing on my device and the 3 network dose not want me on both its planet 3 or its internet while using the dual sim stk.
Its so agonizing because with the high speed of my connection I can see the pages loading before getting kicked. I could always just do several reconnects in a row by hitting the refresh button and get a whole page but that seems ridiculous.

I have recently purchased a Cingular 8525 and am getting tired of carrying two phones around. Is there a way to put both phone numbers on the 8525? I assume the basics would require unlocking and cutting up my existing sim cards but wasn't sure if there is a way to get both programmed onto one sim.

trentend & OdeeanRDeatchshead - I guess that next week I will receive package, it was sent out from Hong Kong and it's right now probably in US Postal Service facility. So I hope that by 1/13/07 I will tell you if this new adapter is working.
trsoghier - answer for your question is complex.
a) you mentiones programing both numbers into one SIM card. It is called cloning and right now it is not possible with new cards. Problem is cypher algorithm. Only cards coded in Comp128v1 cypher could be cloned. Right now most of mobile operators moved to Comp128v2 or Comp128v3 or OTA or completly custom codes. It is not possible to code such a card without cooperation from operator employee who has access to MNC - so we rule this option out
b) Adaptors type II AKA "No-Cut DUAL SIM Adaptor". It is not possible to put such adaptor into TyTN. If you will do it, it will be seen. Besides most of adaptors mentioned before will not serve Cingular 3G SIM card AKA USIM.
c) Adaptors type I AKA "Cut DUAL SIM Adaptor". Only posibility right now to have 2 numbers in TyTN. Then still most of the adaptors will not serve Cingular 3G SIM card AKA USIM.
d) You will wait for new expensive card while it will came to me, see note for other guys and then you will know if it is possible to have 2 USIM cards working in your device.
About unlocking - first put second SIM card in your TyTN and if you will be asked for unlocking code then you will know that your device is SIM-locked. If it happens see forum for remedy, if not good for you.

it is very much BATTERY CONSUMING!!! By battery drawn completely in one day, when it usually takes 2 or 3... and moreover, without swiching the sims!!!
Has somebody the same problem?
I've stopped using the dual sim-adaptor and noticed a huge battery increase, with the cut sim-adaptor it was lasting 2 days... now with a normal 64K SIM lasts 4 days.

trentend & OdeeanRDeatchshead - package came. And I have good and bad news.
Good news - USIM is working. I can use my T-Mobile (SIM) and Cingular (USIM) card in device.
Bad news - Cingular should be UMTS/HSDPA endabled but when I try to connect to UMTS network it is not working. Phone is going crazy, have to soft rest it to make it working again.
I will contact with seller to see why my card is not compatible with UMTS.
Seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/garagesale125

OK, I made some more research.
First - Battery Usage - SIMore is far more efficient then "13th Generation Adaptor". I guess 5% less then SIM card alone.
Second - Stability - Far move better then other adaptor.
Third - Time of swith - SIM1 - T-Mobile; SIM2 - Cingular; SIM1->SIM2 - 40 sec; SIM2->SIM1 - 38 sec. Counted from click to switch to log in into other network. Band settings: Type of network: Auto; Band: GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850).
Forth - performance - This is only adapter known by me that I can use with Cingular card thou only in GSM mode, still UMTS is unavaliable on Cingular's card.
Note: More functions will be better implemented in AKU 3.x thou it is more SIM friendy.
I think that reason for this low performance might be radio upgrade. I will wait for official upgrade to confirm, but right now my guts say so. I never had to power on/off that European SIM card alone could log in into network. Something is wrong and it might be radio.

1. Dual Sim card (Cutting) will work in SE K750i and
2 Dual Sim card ( No cutting required) will work nicely on Nokia 6230i
I have wasted few adapter before, but these adapter worked really well. They are written as 11th Generation. They also says that it would work in 3G phones, but I dont have 3G phones to test it

That's effectively the same item that I already have. It works with 3G phones, but specifically states not with 3G USIM.
I do not believe there is currently a fully functional dual sim adaptor for modern 64k 3G SIM cards. I would be happy to be proved wrong, but I have been unable to find any solution so far. I would expect this adaptor not to work with my sim cards. This is a sit tight and wait for developments to catch up with the current technology type scenario.....

trentend - your right. The only working adapters for USIMs give 2G capability but not 3G.
Like my Cingular USIM - I can connect to EDGE network, dial, connect to data service but I can not connect to UMTS/HSDPA network, because after 2-3 seconds it will be kicked out form it.
I do monitor adapter market but in my opinion - we have to still wait about year for any solution and probably it want be anything compatible with this adapters just like cloning.

I would like to give back some to this awesomely helpful community instead of just lurking, so...
Here: http://www.hot-wire-telekom.de/index.php?aktion=detail&suche=HTC%20TyTN&asuche=HW130010
I have found my working solution.
Although in German, they feature a kind of questionnaire to find the right dual sim product suitable for the phones.
The TyTn with UMTS Card should be equipped with an analogue dual sim adapter, for they have found the digital ones (with the menu item for swithching appearing on the phone) will not work. They also drain the battery like hell. :-(
So far as to my choice of adapter.
Now to the cutting part:
One can either buy or rent the cutting tool - or find a shop having one for that matter, but the most damage to cards while cutting happens through electric discharges. So properly ground yourself before fiddling with the card.
The cutting itself is maybe something you would like to practice once on an really old sim you might have.
I myself was hesitant at first, to cut into the "gold" area of the card, but if you have applied the transparent sticker properly, there is really not much to be afraid of, since only the six connectors are needed which also now make contact with your phone. (sometimes you can tell by seeing the slide-marks on them)
The sticker comes in handy, because once you have chipped away enough plastic, you could otherwise only guess which corner needs to be cut. Test the sims funcionality immediately after cutting via the supplied resume cards, to rule out any malfunction here, because you'll have to do enough fiddling afterwards. ;-)
The annoying part is truely not the cutting, but getting the device to recognise both sims.
One piece of advice though: Be careful with the sliding cover, while putting it back on. On the first try, i cut through the platina of the adapter, having to order a new one afterwards.
Once you have the sims in the device, place the adapter in the phone and do use the supplied cushioning about a millimeter away from the visible chip on the adapter towards the other end of the adapter. Place it across, not alongside the adapter.
Others have experimented with layers of scotch tape to adjust the pressure, but I have had no success with that. Just try it. You might also want to fixate the backs of the sims insade the adapter with one strip of scotch tape.
Be careful though, not to push out the bottom from the casing. The glue used cannot take that much pressure.
One thing I had to adjust in addition was the "cradle" of the sim card.
On the back end towards the outside of the phone's case, you'll notice a small rectangular space, normally covered beneath the sim.
Since all of these operations boil down to the fact, that proper connection of the sims, dual sim adapter and phone have to be established, I figured it might help to place some folded paper in there - just enough to fill the gap from unterneaththe slid-in adapter but not yet blocking its path.
Then while carefully sliding in the adapter, try to place the back edge of the adapter just ever so slightly between the TyTn's case and the paper, which should disappear completely underneath the adapter.
After hours of testing with one adapter ruined, this is how I have got it to work - mechanically.
The switch between cards is done by entering and exiting flight mode, which works most of the time.
I have figured out a procedure that tells me which sim is in use at the moment, by looking into the program folder. The sim toolkit applications which automatically load when the phone activates show up and disappear there and allow me to tell the sims apart.
This has become necessary, because the phone shows the operator name of the first activated sim during initial phone startup, instead of changing. Especially since I have a BASE and an E-Plus account which are networkwise
basically the same, this procedure allows m to tell them apart. I have tried diffeent apps for this, but none have given good results and this aproach is quite simple.
There also is a registry hack availeable which I'll just quote here, since I forgot where I cut and pasted it from:
Customize operator's name
To show specified operator name set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=0 (DWORD decimal)
And then at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
add the code and the name to display. The value is 5 digits "CCCOO", where CCC is 3-digits country code, and OO is 2-digits operator's code. For example:
"25099"="BEE LINE"
For country and network code, go to wikipidea for mobile country code and network code
To show operator name based on the SIM card used (eg for cases where dual SIM adapter are used), set
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=1 (DWORD decimal)
For my dual-SIM adaptor, when I switch between SIMs, the phone with default settings showed always one and the same name, until I reboot the device. Then, it was not able to retrieve operator's name from one of the SIM cards I use. Probably it is an adaptor fault. But anyway, after I changed ONSDisplayRule to 0 and set more up-to-date names for operators that I use, I now always see the name of the operator of the chosen SIM.
End of quote.
These are basically my findings. I hope this is of any help to somebody here.
Cheers, Chris

I see...
With my Sims from Eplus and BASE, which are both said to be UMTS by the provider(s), it works. I get connection speeds of up to 450 Kbits/s on both using the adapter. I have set the band to WCDMA only in the phone app and everything works just fine.
Maybe the provider can enlighten you, whether there are certain alternations or conditions with their supplied sims. They would be my first bet to ask, if you have not done so already.
By the way, I am using the unaltered HTC Test ROM with the Radio ROM it installed with via the exe-update file.

Having read the thread several times and struggled to see who has managed what.
Who has managed to get a dual sim adaptor to work in their TyTn / Hermes? I am especially interested in getting 'new' sims and '3g' sims to work.
If you did could you share all the details with everybody, such as: the make, where you bought it from (if e-Bay the link or seller etc), any fiddling or tweaking that was required to make it all work.
Like many others I have bought fom ebay, managed to cut the cards and can't get it to work... I bought this "Dual Sim 12th Gen, Auto STK Menu, Universal holder cut" from "dualholder", in all fairness we are talking and I haven't been 'dumped.

It depends on your definition of 'work'.
If you want a dual sim holder to provide both 2G and 3G services with the latest sim cards, then the answer is no, it does not work because currently nothing does.
If you have earlier sim's and/or are not bothered about 3G services, then this thread does provide 'working' suggestions.
Personally I'm waiting for a 2G and 3G digital solution (analogue turning off and on the phone to switch sims is no good for me) for the latest sim cards. I think it will come, but the market doesn't currently offer a solution.

We have a dual sim that will work with this mobile.
You may be aware we sell many many different models but have found an older software version that will work with my own Orange m3100 (Hermes).
The dual sim I would recommend is the Advanced MENU Twin SIM (V9.6)
and not the dearest either.
http://www.freeyourmobile.biz/acatalog/dual_sim_cards_full_range.html
Tip...
You have to also put the padding inside the dual sim or above it to apply pressure down on the sim cards to ensure that they have a good enough contact.
You will find dual sim card in the windows program menu once there is a good enough contact on both sim’s at startup.
Most fall at this hurdle as the sims must have a good firm contact with the dual sim and often mobiles either squeeze the dual sim ie you need the padding outside the dual sim or there is too much room and hence it needs padding inside the dual sim.
Patience is the 2nd tip once you have selected the different number let the mobile switch.

The Digital Dual Sim adapters work but with huge battery drain (in my reference scenario without using radio, with phone on and minimal backlight my Tytn drains more than 80 mA compared with about 40 mA with the normal SIM).
Using the analogue Dual Sim adapter (I use the one that Freeyourmobile sells but they are available from other providers) in the same scenario described before and with the same Sims the battery drain returns to normal value (about 40 mA). Off course you do not have the STK menu and you need to switch flight mode on and off to change the active Sim.

And, I figured it out. I was going to start/settings/phone, and looking at the number there. The number there only reflects the SIM in the number one spot on the adapter. the number two number doesn't ever show up, even when it is the active line.
ON EDIT:
Earlier, the way I was figuring out what was the active SIM was by making a call to another phone. Now, I see that by going to SIM manager, I can see which SIM is active, accurately.

As I recall (if you read this whole thread) pof mentioned that that adapter wouldn't fit in the phone...
Might even be on the first post in this thread.
On Edit: Yep, it is on the first post. pof couldn't get the battery cover back on the phone with that style SIM adapter.
And, if you look at page 11, you can see which adapter I've got. DLSreports comes back with 168kb/s I've got no idea if that's 2G, 3G, or what that actual speed is. My phone has the E icon on when I'm on the net, FWIW.

At work I get anywhere from 313-754 kb/s... and that's with the H icon.
I'm doubting the 754 is a real number, but I don't really get this G/3G/H/E speed deliniation thing.
This is using that dual SIM adapter I posted on the previous page.

TIPS FOR THOSE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH DUAL-SIM ADAPTER :
- SIM UNLOCK the phone even if you use SIMs from the locked operator.
From previous experience, I had a SIM locked nokia and a dual-sim adapter with two SIMs from the same carrier. When I'd switch SIM, the phone would freak out with Invalid SIM warnings and/or resets.
- Be PATIENT and CAREFUL. Those things are CHEAPLY made. You got to have your cutted out sims placed PERFECTLY on the contacts.
- When you slide on the top cover, it moves the SIMS around, so you gotta try over and over and over.
- If you get NO SIM error, I'd suggest looking into putting some pressure on TOP of the dual-sim adapter. It might be that the contacts of the adapter don't touch the pins on the phone.
For me, I had to put a tiny piece of folded paper between the SIM adapter and the battery.
With due patience and hard work, you'll have this :D It's only GREAT if you got a use for such thing though :p

I recently purchased the Simcore Silver Type 1 dual sim adapter. The sims were cut using the cutting tool. Individually, the sim work in my TyTN. When I install the adapter with both sims, my TyTN freezes and I cannot access any applications. Sometimes it will say no sim installed. Can anyone offer any assistance? TIA

A dual sim is available from www.freeyourmobile.biz that will work with the Hermes.
The menu appears as dual sim rather than HTK.
The one you need is the Advanced MENU Twin SIM (V9.6)

Do you have any solution without having to cut the cards, someone told me that my vodafone card cannot be cuted...

I purchased this dual sim from this company. I unlocked my phone, cut my sims with the cutter also purchased, and IT DOESN'T WORK! My Cingular 8525 (HTC TyTn) says "Invalid or missing SIM card". The sims work fine individually when put back in the recovery card. I tried all the covers and the foam piece for extra pressure, with the same negative results.
Has anyone tried the "New Power on off standard dual sim" from freeyourmobile.biz that says it is specifically designed for 3M Cards?
Very very disappointed!

Well I don't usually like to post these sorts of threads, but I received a DOA dual sim adapter from Simore. They kept telling me that the adapter would not work in my TYTN. My buddy has the same adapter and it worked just fine. Well after trying to explain this to Simore (several times) they have now stopped replying to my email requesting a replacement. Not a good way to run a business...

I import these useful but tricky adapters. They work perfectly on 32K & 64K 3G sim but not on 128K 3G sim:mad: It will not read 128K on any phone I've tried. When used together with a 32K or 64K Hermes will only pick up the that sim regardless of which sim slot is which. And if only earlier version sims are used then both are picked up. The network operators are out to irritate us with constant new sim versions:D

Which Dual sim did you try from Simore? The Silver 1? Your friend definitely has one working in his TYTN?? Are you absolutely positive of that? Because I am willing to buy one from Simore if I know it will work. Simore says "they cannot guarantee it will work". But if I know someone, anyone, has truely made it work I will buy it and report back to this string. Let me know!

H all..
i just bgt the dual sim card adaptor from freeyourmobile.com
i got it up and running, sim cards detected, can dial out, sms, etc.
But i realized that after a while, although the signal icon is shows a very strong signal, the phone has actually lost connectivity...cause when i tried to use the phone, it says operation failed or people will not be able to dial in.
Anyone faced this problem? Any workarounds?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, after much frustration, much headache, and unkind words exchanged between the people both at freeyourmobile and simone I have finally found a dual sim adapter that works & a plugin that allows you to change sims via the menu. I get 3G service on both sims and no aparent problems! I can dial out and receive calls. Data works via my Medianet ATT carrier. WIFI works. Bluetooth works. Signal remains strong and constant. Here is the info:
Phone: Cingular 8525 (AKA Herm100, HTC TyTn)
ROM version: 2.15.502.3 (latest download from HTC.com)
OS: Windows Mobile 5
Unlocked with free unlocker available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Carriers: I have two different ATT sim cards/plans, one on each sim: one voice only Sim (business) and one data & voice combined Sim (personal).
Dual Sim Adapter purchased from http://www.freeyourmobile.biz/acatalog/dual_sim_cards_.html
You need the one labeled "New Power on off standard dual sim". This is one where you have to cut your sims. I recommend getting the simcard cutter which makes cutting them really easy.
DO NOT GET THE "Advanced MENU Twin SIM"!!! That one doesn't work!!
Once I installed the cut sims into the dual sim adapter I had to also use the little foam piece that comes with it to make good contact between the two sims and the adapter.
Menu Sim Switcher plugin: It is called Called Dual Sim Today or SIMTodayCab.CAB available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=302759
This plugin allows you to switch sims via the menu and it only takes about 15 seconds to switch between sims! You can also custom label each sim via this plugin so you know which sim is currently active.
I think that is it. If anyone has any questions or problems just let me know. It works great on my phone and I am so happy I finally found a solution!

There are no "no-cut" dual sim cards that I have found that will work in my 8525. All of those only work with non 3G phones & sims. I also purchased the sim card cutter and it works great. It really isn't that big of a deal cutting the sims, especially with the special cutter. If you ever need to go back to a regular sim card, the dual adapter comes with a "recovery card" which you just pop your cut sim back into and it works as a single sim again.

Thanks for the tip I did exactly as you said and yes it works fine.
Word of warning.
The stick on templates you get to put on your SIM so you can cut them out yourself are wrong, they are far to narrow, luckily i tested on a spare SIM first.
OK now a question, I changed the setting to tap and hold to switch SIMs how do I get back into the menu now, because tap and hold just causes it to switch SIMs

I have tried a lot of dual sim on tytn WITHOUT SUCCESS.
The only one that works is SIMORE. www.simore.ch
Unfortunately it costs a lot and You must calculate an overcharge for custom duties (because Swiss is out of Europe).
So I have paied 50 eur. for a dual sim.
It doesn't worth the value.
And It seems not to work properly if you set the radio setting on UMTS.
It works well only on GSM bands.
Thats all.

Hello,
I would like to tell you that I successfully put a dual sim holder Simore Black 1 in my TYTN.
I was a bit scary, but it is very well described in the manual and the provided stickers for cutting assistance are very helpful.
Trust the guidelines and it works :)
It's a bit expensive compared to others devices I have seen but for the moment it works.
The only problem I have is that the dual sim today plugin does not switch well. But the STK works perfectly even the switch scheduling.

Hi All,
Just got my self a HTC TYTN, not sure what version it is on these forums presume it’s the Hermes :p
My question is what would be the latest and greatest dual/ghost sim available for my phone, have checked out some of the links but I am confused
Can you also store separate number on the different sim cards? Would like the keep both totally separate, would it be possible to have 2 different text centre number etc. one for each card
Link to a UK dealer would be nice any one
Thanks
