Stop activesync from killing edge connection

Is there a way to stop activesync from breaking the edge connection as I can not use the work internet with my phone it will not allow it. I would like to keep my edge connection active so my instant messaging and email still comes through from my other accounts.

I have searched the web and this site and I am either not searching on the right stuff or it can't be done any help would be much apperciated.
