Read in the forum that the BOOTLOADER funtionality wasnt avaible in this EXEC ROM, turning a little bit more dificult to upload the original Atom ROM. Would u know if this is still happening in this "upgraded" version?

My sentiments exactly. Will this ENU version solve or i should say NOT have the flickering problem and the bootloader problem when reverting back to the original atom rom. I hope soooooo!!! Thanks for the hard work!!!

They are captured from a forum and I summarized them as followings.

Possible outcomes after flashing atom with exec rom 20060721.

1) Flickering screen if you REMOVE the battery (so stay away from exec roms if you plan to remove battery once a while, or you occasionally or accidentally deplete the battery). A possible reason is real atom exec use a different screen type (or hardware revision), as it show hardware revision "B" in system information of a real atom exec (later model)

2) New July exec rom does not allow you to return to any previous rom versions, neither via usb ActiveSync update nor bootloader mode, in fact, the bootloader mode in this version does not allow you flash any rom versions, if you try to flash rom in bootloader mode, it will stop and display "pls update in OS mode and synchronised"

3) Can't make a call without using bluetooth or headset, other people can't hear me when using phone mic. Some even added that other cannot hear voice from atom via headset.


A way to do it if you still want to proceed the update .

1) Run atom 0426 rom update program, after the DSUU program extracted the files, don't click "next", go to windows/temp folder, copy those files extracted, except "diskimage_Ver.nb0" and "ExtendedRom.img", then save them somewhere else.

2) Run july exec rom update program, after the DSUU program extract the files, don't click "next," go to windows/temp folder, overwrite with the files you just saved, this will leave only the diskimage_Ver.nb0 & ExtendedRom.img files as of the july exec rom, others become atom rom files, including an older bootloader which allows you to flash back other roms.

3) Flash.

hard reset can't help. restore 0426 rom impossible. :(

If you want to revert to the 0426 rom, from the 0721 rom. Copy the eboot file from the 0426 installation to you miniSD card and go to bootloader, when its done you can install the 0426 rom again.

After step 5 let the Atom do things... the atom reboot. i cannot get into Bootloader again... I mean, i camera+reset will directly reboot instead of get into bootloader mood. I think my atom is getting worst :shock:

Heres a little tip, press the camera button first, followed by the soft reset button. Release the soft reset button before you release the camera button, work like a charm for me all the time, maybe itll help you aswell.

I think it is not the matter of button sequence... i even cannot get into bootloader mode by the "noraml upgrade" of 0712. It bypassed the Bootloader part of the 0712 rom upgrade process... Pls Help

I copied the eboot file to my miniSD card, and clicked the camera + soft reset for entering into bootloader mode, after the bootloader mode, the device started to reset the ROM to factory default. i.e same Atom Exec Rom....Nothing happens here..it again installed the latest Atom Exec Rom. Can anyone help me, how to restore to 0426 Atom ROM. Please.....................:(

And I think I need to find 0416 rom, anyone know, pls tell me. For my case, I even can't see the bootloader by press "camema+reset". I will get my Atom back tomorrow, hope yr method work. Thx again

I've the same problem,

1. I downgrade to the old ROM's eboot.nb0
2. flash to 0721 (change language)
3. Want to try 0621 so reflash eboot.nb0 from MiniSD

And now, no matter what I do, I just can't get back to the bootloader.
no matter what key I press, with or without MiniSD etc.

seems something goes wrong during the reflash of the boot loader(but no error was show during the reflash process).
anyone know how to rewrite the bootloader from within wm5? cuz. I just can't get to the bootloader anymore, it just skip to normal startup sequence no matter what I do.

This procedure is for Atom not Exec, however seems I did not read your post quite correctly sounds as though flashing to exec rom then flashing back to original is worth a shot. The exec rom will install new bootloader therefore enabling you to re enter bootloader and flash back to original, worth a try and better than replacing mobo. The problem though if you cannot re enter bootloader after installing new rom you may be stuck with a flickering screen too but I think its definately worth a try, dont blame me though if it doesnt work.

I know yours is the Atom, read very carefully!
First pull out your SD Card
Download Exec rom 0416, connect your device via USB and sync it.
Execute the DSUU file and follow the procedure to the tee!
Now you have the "EXEC" rom installed to the "standard ATOM"(this should install new bootloader)
Disconnect USB after installation has completed and try entering bootloader (soft reset and Camera button same time)
If successful stay in bootloader and plug in USB
Now execute rom 0426 (latest official Standard Atom rom) or which ever standard Atom rom you want to use. Wahla!

The rom you flashed (0712) is the edited version or not? If it is not the edited version you're going to have to follow the procedure found in the forum to enable it to be flashed back. Can you enter bootloader at this stage?

What I hv flashed was the original version. I cannot get into the bootloader again. Any version of DUSS will bypass the bootloader and directly goto the O2 screen(just like normal reset). I already giveup to safe my Atom. Here, I hv to warn any of u who hv flashed the original 0712 version. Pls do not copy the 0426 Atom eboot to the MiniSD to restore the bootloader. It will totally corrupt yr bootloader. Thx again to all hv try to safe my Atom.

hi, I flashed the fixed 712 Exec ROM onto my ATOM and it works beautifully - camera, wireless, everything. The device is much more snappy (I think due to 520MHz). However, like in all the forums, when I remove the battery, the screen starts to flicker - even if I reflash the entire ROM again.

The only way to get back the good screen is to flash back ATOM standard 426 ROM. This makes me think, the original display driver must have been loaded in RAM all this time until the unit is totally shut off (when battery is removed). The Exec display driver is not compatible with standard ATOM. If we can get hold of the standard ATOM display driver and replace it in the Exec ROM, then the screen flicking will go away. Anyone has any idea which driver and how to replace the ROM with the ATOM driver?

I have tested it. It's ok! Work on regular XDA ATOM. I not do hard reset or remove battery. I don't know will be screen problems or not. :? ROM includes much programms - with asian support. it is not needed... In general that ROM is July ROM + asian programms.

Atom with Exec rom, once the battery has been completely drained and the screen is black dont try to turn PPC back on or press anything. Instead charge it as soon as possible and dont touch it until charged fully, this way the screen flicker does not come, works for me however does not the solve the issue when battery needs removing

is this ROM the 416 ROM ? my xda atom always goes in the MN2 bootloader, when i tried to update with this"Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822_by Novarg.exe" in bootloader it says DSUU must be run in OS MODE , also the current rom versions shown by the update utility are blank. i think my prob will be solved by the method in this thread but i need the 416 ROM files..
