O2 XdaIIs Freezes Alot. Need To Reset Atleast 12 Times A Day

Hello All Mobile Gurus There I Want Ur Help To Resolve Me A Big Problem.....

1} Whenever My Mobile Is On Cradle And If I Get A Sms Or Call At That Time - My Phone Freezes { Sometimes } And Stops Responding To Anything And Than Have To Finally Reset It By Putting The Stylus In At The Bottom....
Sometimes My SmS Is Stored In Inbox As Unread And Sometimes I Loose My Sms Message.....
And In Case of Calls I Dont Even Get To Know Who Is Calling Since The Mobile Freezes Before Showing The Popup Of the Name Of Person Or Number Who Is Calling Me..... All I Get To See Is The Phone Icon Next To Signal Strength Indicator...... My Friends later Tells Me That Why U Were Not Answering The Call It Was Ringing.... So I M Loosing On Most Of My Calls......

2} Also These Freezing Problem Is Not Only When I Get Call Or Sms While On Cradle...... Sometimes While My Mobile Is On Cradle And If After Some Interval Of Time I Click On Start Button On My Mobile It Freezes And Stops Responding To Anything Without Opening The Start Menu.....

3} These Freezing Problem Is Not Only When My Mobile Is On Cradle But Also While Using It { While Palying Games Or Using It Generally } Sometime It Freezes.....
I Dont Know Whts Wrong With My Mobile All Of Sudden From Past Few Days..... { Since After I Downgraded From WM5 Tuma v1.4 }

4} Also Phone Application Of My Mobile Really Sucks..... When I Click On Any Contact To Dial In Call History List The Call Gets Connected But The Screen Still Gets Stuck At Call History Display Only.... This Is Really Bad At Times when I Want To Give Missed Calls Since I Wont Be Able To End The Call Bcoz The Screen Is Showing Me Call History And Have Freeze For { 30 secs Or 1 min. } Only After Than It Will Show Me The Incall Screen....
Also Sometimes When I Dial A Number And Click On Talk The Call Gets Connected { Also The Phone Icon Is Displayed On The Top } But The Screen Is Stuck At The Same Thing Showing Me Default Phone Screen { Instead Of Showing Me "Dialing" Or "Duration Of Call - Mins.sec" }

5} Sometimes My Display Switches On Itself After Sometime..... This Is A Real Big Bug Bcoz Of These My Mobile Brattery Runs Out Very Soon....
Bcoz I Never Know When My Mobile Display Turns On Automatically When In Pocket....

Can These Problem Be Causing Because Of Microsoft .NET CF2.0 { I Have Installed This To Run RemoteProtect Software }

OK, SO YOU PROBABLY HAVE A FAULTY DEVICE, SEND IT BACK.

ALTERNATIVELY, YOU CAN SEARCH THESE FORUMS TO ANSWERS FOR MANY OF YOUR CONCERNS ABOVE.

YOU CAN TRY:

1. DISABLING "FEEL GOOD" PHONE INTERFACES, AND USE THE INBUILT STANDARD, CONSUMES LESS MEMORY, LOADS FASTER

2. TRY TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS NOT TO MANY APPLICATIONS RUNNING SIMULTANEOUSLY TO TAKE UP MEMORY

3. IF YOU HAVE SD CARD MEMORY READERS ON YOUR TODAY SCREEN, GET RID OF THEM.

4. ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE MESSAGING TODAY ITEM SHOWN ON THE TODAY SCREEN ITSELF

5. MINIMISE THE USE OF RING TONES, AND TRY TO USE ONLY SMALLER FILE SIZE RING TONES

6. IF YOU HAVE PHOTO CONTACTS, STOP, FOR TESTING PURPOSES

7. TRY POSTING SOME STATISTICS FOR YOUR DEVICE PROGRAM AND STORAGE MEMORY, IMMEDIATELY AFTER A SOFT RESET

8. AN OUTLINE OF WHAT YOU ARE RUNNING SIMULTANEOUSLY ON YOUR TODAY SCREEN AND IN YOUR STARTUPS, AND IF NOT A CLEAN RESET, WHAT WAS ACTUALLY RUNNING AT THE TIME

9. IF YOUR DEVICE HAS MULTI NETWORK CAPABILITY SUCH AS GSM AND UMTS, TRY TO SELECT THE ONE THAT IS ACTUALLY MOST SUITED TO YOUR SPECIFIC NEEDS RATHER THAN SWITCHING BETWEEN MODES

10. REDUCE, ELIMINATE OR OTHERWISE CEASE HAVING ANYTHING THAT APPEARS ON YOUR TODAY SCREEN AS BEING INSTALLED (EVEN SHORTCUTS AND LINKS) THAT RELATE BACK TO A MEMORY CARD.

11. HOW MANY CONTACTS ARE YOU RUNNING? I SAW THIS PROBLEM OCCUR WHEN ONE USER HAD ABOUT 1000 CONTACTS PLUS, AND COULDNT UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM IN DELAYS!!! TRY LOOKUP SEARCH AND CROSS REFERENCE CALLER ID'S IMMEDIATELY WHILST "A SLEEP".



2} Also These Freezing Problem Is Not Only When I Get Call Or Sms While On Cradle...... Sometimes While My Mobile Is On Cradle And If After Some Interval Of Time I Click On Start Button On My Mobile It Freezes And Stops Responding To Anything Without Opening The Start Menu.....


M$ AND DODGY PHONE DEVICES THIS MAY OCCUR. YOU MAY FIND ADDRESSING THE ABOVE, MAY HELP THIS. MY PHONE TENDS TO CRASH MORE OFTEN RATHER THAN LESS OFTEN WHEN I HAVE MULTIPLE REMINDERS QUEUED AND I HAVENT DISMISSED THEM. ESPECIALLY SO WHEN IT IS TRYING TO ANNOUNCE IT, OR WHEN MSVC WAS TRYING TO ANNOUNCE.

IT CAN BE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR MESSAGE QUEUE'S AND YOU MAY HAVE MULTIPLES, THUS WHEN IT WAKES UP, IT IS ALSO CHECKING OUTSTANDING MESSAGES.

YOU CAN TRY SCARY BEAR NOTIFICATIONS AND HAVE A LOOK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE REMINDERS OF THE SAME, BUT BE VERY CAREFUL.

I TRIED TO USE THIS TO FIX, BUT ALAS, SCREWED IT SO BAD, ONLY A HARD RESET COULD RESOLVE MY PREDICAMENT.

IF YOU ADDRESS SOME OF THE ISSUES ABOVE, I CAN START TO WORK WITH THIS, BUT IT IS LIKELY THE SAME PROBLEM.

I WOULD SUGGEST IT MIGHT BE RUNNING OUT OF MEMORY. IN PARTICULAR WITH GAMES, IT APPEARS TO WANT TO STORE THE SCREEN PICTURES FOR EASE OF REFERENCE AND RECALL LATER. YOU WILL SEE THIS WHEN A PROGRAM OR WINDOW SUCH AS EXPLORER, ALWAYS LOADS FASTER THE SECOND TIME THAN IT DID THE FIRST TIME.

THIS ISNT SUCH A PROBLEM USUALLY, AS MOST SCREENS ARE RELATIVELY STATIC SHOWING THE SAME PICTURE TIME AND AGAIN. GAMES ARE NOT, WITH THE MULTIPLE DIFFERENT VIEWS AND PICTURES, I FIND THE DEVICE TENDS TO RUN LOW ON AVAILABLE RESOURCES, UNTIL IT JUST HANGS. HOPEFULLY NOT IN A RECORD BREAKING RUN. I TEND TO SAVE AFTER A SHORT PERIOD, EXIT, AND RESET, PARTICULARLY WITH HIGH RESOLUTION CONSTANTLY MOVING ANIMATED GAMES.

ODD. NOT SURE I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO. IT IS QUITE HARD TO READ WITH ALL THE CAPITALS. I CANNOT RELATE TO THIS, BUT AGAIN PERHAPS REVIEWING THE ABOVE MAY LEAD TO THIS RESOLUTION.

CANT HELP, AGAIN, GO BACK TO MY FIRST COMMENT, NOT HAPPY SEND IT BACK.

WE AGAIN, NEED MORE DETAILS AS TO WHAT IS RUNNING AT THE TIME, AND HOW LONG SINCE YOU ACTUALLY DID A FULL HARD RESET.

I WOULD ALSO BE INTERESTED IN A STAGED HARD RESET FOR FAULT FINDING. THAT IS, FOR EXAMPLE:

1. HARD RESET
2. TEST THE PHONE, SMS ETC SEND AND RECEIVE
3. INSTALL YOUR MOST COMMON APPS (LIST PLEASE) DONT SYNCHRONISE DATA
4. TEST YOUR PHONE AND SMS'S WITHOUT ANY SYNCHRONISED DATA.
5. REPORT THE DETAILS OF PROGRAM AND STORAGE MEMORY.
6. SYNCHRONISE YOUR DATA
7. TEST AND REPORT STATUS, INCLUDE MEMORY AGAIN.

LOCK ALL BUTTONS BUT THE POWER BUTTON. ENSURE IT IS TURNED OFF CORRECTLY WHEN PLACED IN THE POCKET. TURN OFF REMINDERS TO STOP WAKE UPS. ENSURE THE DEVICE TURNS ITSELF OFF AGAIN AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME.

WIND BACK THE RESOLUTION OF YOUR SCREEN SO IT IS ONE BEFORE THE LOWEST. SCREEN TAKES A LOT OF POWER, SO MINIMISE ITS BRIGHTNESS, AND AUTO TURN ITSELF OFF BOTH SCREEN AND POWER AFTER ONLY A COUPLE OF MINUTES.

Can These Problem Be Causing Because Of Microsoft .NET CF2.0 { I Have Installed This To Run RemoteProtect Software }

YES, ALONG WITH HEAPS AND HEAPS OF OTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.

I had the frezing problem with my BA. It was caused by an error in the connection of the cradle with the phone. Correction of contacts alignment solved the problem.

could you identify for me which are installed on the device, which to extended_rom (if unlocked), which to SD card. Also whether they are today plug in or not.

Do you have some backup software so we can test these issues further...

I mean literally, backup, hard reset, and perform progressive tests.

With my old XDAIIs - it was the O2 connect software causing it to feeeze.

When I bought it - i nearly took it back aftera week cos I had to reset it so many times.

It can be uninstalled - rather than hard-resetting.

The wife uses it now and it never freezes at all.

Hmm you dont appear to have a task terminator such as SPB or Magic Button, how are you controlling your memory utilisations?

These I have heard of and should be all ok. MSVC takes about 3mb on bootup, so if you are looking at memory issues and if you have lots of contacts. Also if contacts have multiple of the same phone number id eg a general office line, it struggles ...

An example of potential problem with the short cuts was "Pocket Skype" installed by default, but was such a large file, that calling up the picture of it in normal explorer took ages, i mean seconds and seconds and more seconds...

oh yeah, you may have missed the line entry by oversight, but I recall a very big forum on SMS crashing devices, and feel it could be SIM related, but personally strongly feel that a lot of the problem went away if you have the default M$ today plug in for messaging active and running.

You may also see some academic debate about having the default folder setting, or the folder chosen when you exit and leave it running, should be your text messages, not outlook, not hotmail, not any other pop account.


Just appears a lot of your initial complaints related to SMS's and notifications.

some suggestions:

it would probably be better if you install them in your SD card, it gives more memory for the programs to run.

get SPB pocket plus that can close (not minimize) your applications. this one you should install in your device.

remove O2 connect.

upgrade to wm5 with helmi 1.3.
