Just a quick note to all new TyTn / M3100 / Vario II / V1605 owners.
I, like you guys, need to buy a MicroSD memory card
I was looking at ebay to buy one as I have bought memory cards before for good prices, but found amazon are actually cheaper than ebay!
1GB cards on ebay are going for around £26-£30 plus £6 postage.
Just bought one from amazon (Sandisk) for £23.59 including supersaver delivery.
Just though this might help someone save a few quid!

a place called mobymemory.com also have them for the £25 but they have 2gb ones in for £62!
Anyone else seen a uk supplier (non ebay) carring 2gb micro SD's yet for less than £62?

Best price I've seen (£52.88 inc vat), but I've never used the supplier and they are not currently in stock:

personally I'm getting up and running with a 1Gb card, and then seeing how the prices settle in a couple of months.

In Germany the 1 GB SanDisk microSD is available from € 30,70 / £ 20,70 (see: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a185626.html) and the 2 GB version starts at € 67,75 / £ 45,69 (see: http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a210696.html).
At eBay.de the 1 GB version is sold for € 19,99 / £ 13,48 as "buy now" (http://cgi.ebay.de/1-GB-SanDisk-TransFlash-MicroSD-Card-BESTPREIS_W0QQitemZ140017800233QQihZ004QQcategoryZ 90241QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

By the time you've added delivery (€8,90 within germany, and €12,40 within the EU) these are relatively unremarkeable prices.
Around about £22/£23 delivered seems to be the going budget price for a 1Gb microSD.

But the offers you can find in Geizhals are not yet on stock anywhere.
BTW:
Who of you already uses a 2GB MicroSD Card in a TyTN ?
I'd be really curious whether it works or not and if so whether it works well.
There is a Taiwanes (?) manufacturer, who already ships 4 GB *MINI* SD Cards (note: MINI not Micro).
I could well use it in my Qtek 8300 Smartphone (which I often also use as an alternative to a USB stick).
Yet there is a report on the net of someone who has ordered it and found it just shows 2GB on the 8300, but 4GB in a card reader.
So the card is ok, but cannot be read by the mobile !
Problem is that the built-in card reader as well as the driver file has to be able to cope with these large memory cards.
With the normal (full-size) SD Cards there seem to be a spec-barrier at 2GB. There are 4GB cards that can be read in some but not all devices. In most of the devices, which can read them it lasts much longer to access the file directory (e.g. in my Casio Exilim cam :-(
I don't know anything (neither do I have trusted feedback) about the compatibility of 2GB MicroSD cards in PDAs (not to speak of the TyTN).
So I am keen to find out here soon :)

I purchased a Sandisk Ultra II (high speed) 1gb from buy.com for $39.99 shipped after rebate in anticipation of ordering my TyTn....Too great of a deal to pass up considering that the Ultra II has almost double the read/write speed of the standard microSD.

That TotallyMobile card looks tempting, but I'd love to know whether there's a significant performance difference between normal vs Ultra II MicroSDs when in use on a HTC Hermes/TyTN. Anyone have any reviews covering this (or on a similar HTC device)?

@ marcusjt
looking at the post from iboj007 it looks like there is a performance improvement as you would expect.
I suppose 2Gb ultraII cards are on their way but how long? then there will be a 4Gb standard card and then there will be a 4Gb ultra II just round the corner etc etc

I noticed that ultra II vs normal in miniSD on the Wizard often made the difference in playback of mp3's and videos from the memory card. I would imagine the same would be the case for the tytn.

I bought this:
1 Gb from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&item=330017493889&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1)
Paid on monday, arrived this morning (four working days). Am currently loading stuff on to it for my visit to Croatia next week.
One thing I have noticed is that it's very easy for the memory card to stick in the reader (on the phone) rather than ejecting with a further press. If you take the back off the phone, and remove the battery, you can see the card reader slot (complete with metal cover) alongside the sim card. In the top left corner of this cover is a small square hole into which the stylus point can be inserted to slide a stuck card forward. I find tweasors most useful for gripping and removing the card.
I hope that helps somebody - it took me a while to figure out.

I got a 2GB sandisk from Verizon and it is recognised fine. The problem i have is when scrolling the list of files it sometimes hangs the whole device as the files start to be displayed. I have formatted the card as FAT but it still happened. Now testing the card formatted as FAT32. I will try changing the card if it still happens.

Hi Everyone!
Just to let you know that I suspect a similar problem with the M3100 as I had with my M600. Seeing as the phone as is new, I doubt anyone has been using their microSD cards for longer than a few weeks. My M600 and M500 had problems with recognising the SD cards (sometime, not always) and now this with my brand new M3100 and SanDisk... Wondering if its maybe a wide spread problem... else I should be Jinx in the next Bond movie!
Let me know how your microSDs fare.
Viktor
P.S. I won't be able to reply for 2 weeks - I am off on holiday!

I bought my 2GB microSD card (Sandisk) from Verizon in the U.S., and it is working great! :D Of course, I haven't tried playing any movies yet.

I just received my TyTn and a 2GB card today. Delivery timing was perfect. I loaded some mp3's and some video on the card to test things out. The card was recognized the first time, but after I took it out and reloaded some mp3's it would no longer be recognized by the TyTn. I tried my smaller 16mb microsd and it worked just fine.
I tried doing a soft boot as others had suggested but that also did not work.
My Microsd card was formatted from the factory in FAT32. I reformatted it on my PC in just FAT and now it has worked flawlessly since.
This is my first time using WM5.0 and I had thought they would have done a better job with windows media player. Playback of audio and video is great, but it is so lacking in features compared to other programs.

Just received my 2GB Transflash card yesterday and I'm pleased to say it works very well indeed. I haven't noticed any performance issues and have loaded/installed over 15 full games, 13 applications a couple of movies and loads of MP3s and all perform to almost complete satisfaction. I say almost, because I find movie playback less fluid when resuming playback from scrolling/fast forwarding through the movie, compared to Exec, Vario I and the Prophet. But I believe this to be more software oriented than the cards reading speed. TomTom works flawlessly and accessing photos in albums/folders of no less than 40 pictures, very fast indeed.
Happy camper here.
It came formatted as FAT32 and was easily recognised by my VarioII and Multi card reader (cheapo at that!).
Bought my card from Moby Memory @ £59.00 incl. VAT.

As above.
Ordered a 2gb card from Moby on Tuesday afternoon. Arrived Wednesday first thing. Works fine with images and MP3.
Phone is M3100.
I did not format it - just stuck it in the slot and hey presto!
Also card a USB stick that means I can plug it directly into my PCs. Works really well, direct and indirect transfer both work fine.

Reset M3100, "Storage Card" seen aok... strange! TomTom 5.21 reinstalled and working ok so far.

I've just purchased a 512mb card from http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=101373 for £7.49
Postage is £3.95
It's only 512 but it's temporary until the prices come down and problems with larger cards are sorted

I have 2GB A-Data. It was pre-formatted to FAT16, but I reformatted it to FAT32 under Windows, with 4KB cluster size. No problems so far. Almost all apps are installed on it. Also played video.
