I just purchased a 1GB Datawrite Mini Sd card which is quoted as having 24MB/s Read and 20 MB/s write but I am getting nowhere near this.
I used Pocket mechanic to test this card and a Kingston 1GB card, they both came out almost identical.

Datawrite 1GB
File System Read Unbuffered 3.61mb/sec
Buffered 3.88
Write Unbuffered 448.67KB/sec
Buffered 1.31
General 6.90 Operations
Low Level Unbuffered burst Read 3.57mb/s
Low Level Buffered burst Read 16.75
Low Level Unbuffered burst Write 1.01mb/s
Low Level Buffered burst 3.22mb/s

Kingston 1GB
File System Read Unbuffered 3.25mb/sec
Buffered 3.74
Write Unbuffered 1.12mb/s
Buffered 1.77
General 15.97 Operations
Low Level Unbuffered burst Read 3.34mb/s
Low Level Buffered burst Read 16.08
Low Level Unbuffered burst Write 667.36KB/s
Low Level Buffered burst 6.37mb/s/s

Is this because the XDA Mini S cannot handle higher speed cards ??
I have searched but cannot find an answer.
I even emailed Datawrite but did not get a reply

I even tested through my PC using a USB 2 hub and an Integral 9in1 card reader but it looks as though the card reader is a bit nasty. I could only get read speeds of 4MB/s for both cards. Cant be the hub as my USB pen gives me 15MB/s.
Please, please can somebody shed some light on this ?
Thanks

HW of PPCs is not capable of handeling hi speed data transfer of cards... old ppc (2003) had read/writes just over one megabyte.

did you try to test the speed of your internal memory? Then you would get idea where to install apps and games, to SD or internal memory..

I cannot run a benchmark on my memory because there is not enough free space.
I know it is faster than the card.
It just means I bought a high speed card for no gain :(

well, if you use card reader on PC then the speed will be as described on your card... but still 3M/s is fast, and i think RAM on WM5 is slower then that, or just a little faster.. try the speed of ram and you will see...

You have not searched my articles ;) Please see http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17921 - in there, I've also explained how storage cards can be made faster. They, however, will NOT be faster than, say, 1.5 Mbytes/s.
