After flicking around on google, i have found a personally tested method of getting msn messenger working in WM5.
It fully supports the rotation that occurs when you open the keyboard on the TyTN.
http://node13.org/pda/
Go here (my own site), and do the following:
1. Connect your WM5 device to your pc.
2. Run msn22.exe (Will installed the PPC2002 version of MSN Messenger)
3. Run msn23.exe (Will instal the PPC2003SE version with the latest updates)
4. Reset your device
Voila, you now have a nice working copy of MSN Messenger.
Enjoy!

For some reasons, every time I tried to run your msn23 from my computer (connected to the device of course), it showed the InstallShield 1645: and it stopped there. I have also tried msn22 and the result is the same. BTW, I have done the unlock CID already if it would matter at all.
Any suggestions?

Yes, I don't know why Microsoft have it so obscurely referenced, not easy to track it down. By the way also works well for me too.

Well now that's a tricky question... welllll ok yes we are, at least I am. The one that's like the old MSN for mobile but not quite if you know what I mean!! And the one that shows as Live.com on this link http://ideas.live.com/, In case there's confusion "MSN Messenger is now Windows Live Messenger" hence the use of the name Live.com.

you try this agilemessenger (http://www.agilemobile.com/get_latest.php?device=WMPPC)
in my tytn it works very well:
- he automatically rotates with the opening of the keyboard
- it notices all the emoticons
- it works with msn, icq, yaooh etc. accounts
- allows to make a photo with my TYTN and to send it
- and it also has the push to talk!!!
It's phenomenalanything
...else other than microsoft!!!:p

If you actually want it working NOW, then you'll have to sign upto a participation testing account with Microsoft. Once in here you should be able to find it, it's been available since November 13th:

Then you can add to last known Microsoft Stats from Testers:

I am using it since a couple of weeks. Version 3 beta is very stable and easy to use.
Just one very important hint: There is one settings page at the first installation of AgileMEssenger that will ask you for all your messenger services credentials (gmail, ICQ, msn, aim, yahoo..) I did enter two wrong login informations. Well, I corrected them later on - but when I put AgileMessenger to automatic logon at startup it would always "forget" to login to the later corrected messenger services as well. I had to manually connect to them every time.
Solution: I just de-installed AM, installed it again and made sure EVERY messenger service login information was correct at the first time on the setting page. And voila: Automatic login for all messenger services worked perfectly. Now I just click on the AgileMessenger today plugin and it will connect to all service in the background.
Great tool.
But AFAIK its not free ... You have a personal code on the about screen which you will have to use to activate your version.

however it made my device too slow.
and also, it added a lot of contacts to my "contacts" , how can I delete these ?
Shamanix
29-01-2007, 11:36 PM
Yes.. it syncs your MSN contacts with contacts in your device and if you delete any of these contacts you will loose them from your MSN list..
So.. DO NOT delete any of these contacts if you are using MSN live on your device, if you decide to delete MSN live from your device then it is safe to delete those contacts from your device..
mrmrmrmr
29-01-2007, 11:48 PM
ok, what if I delete the contact and add their msn address to the contact's real entry in my contact list ?
and, what does the following options do ?
sync;
1- contacts and messenger
2- e-mail
Shamanix
30-01-2007, 12:36 AM
I donno what will happend if you delete msn addresses that live imported and add them to your contacts that you allready have.. I never tryed that, so if you are going to try it, let me know the results ;)
About options that you asked :
1. This options adds your msn contacts to your device contacts so you have them on your MSN list and you can recive messages from them in your MSN, if you turn that off, noone will be on your MSN live list and you won`t be able to recive msgs from them.
2. This options sync your MSN address email with your device, so all folders are created and you can recive and send emails from your device using your MSN live email address..

I deleted some contacts and added their IM addresses to my other contacts. the contacts didn't get deleted but I received these contacts from MSN next time I connected.
it's kind of annoying.
I don't want MSNonly contacts in my addressbook.
but this software is lovely.
voice clip and sending picture is very nice.
also the avatar screens are nice.

i have msn messenger live on my ppc for about 1 month now and think its great and works well consider it is beta, better than the previous anyway.
down side is the windows live bit that they throw in, but hey it works.
with the sync bit, hated having two. so i deleted the ones that were already on MSN, and added the IM and a second email address of the IM address into my contacts... now here is the trick
when in contacts, highlight your legitimate wanted contact, with the IM addresses and a second email address inserted. THEN use the menu command, add to Windows Live, and allow it to also add to Messenger.
This way, I deleted the old "MSN Contact", and updated my "Contact" with an MSN address and allowed now the two to synchronise.
If you want to add more, just put the MSN address in to the IM field and use the menu add to windows live. If you get an error, or it shows a card (similar to a small sim card) in your contact list rather than a Messenger "head" symbol then it syncrhonised the contact, but didnt add to messenger.
i usually found that this was cause they werent deleted from your contacts and your messenger system first. Delete them all from MSN, then re-add them all using your contacts menu system. Synchronised great, no duplication, and changes in one, changes in the other on next sync.
Took a while to find and use the menu system to add to windows live.

but now I have some weird issues with "windws live messenger":

I found something related to this in the Actiğvesync application on Hermes.
It says that "your current scheduling for sync requires a Cellular data connection please configure a ..."
This warning came when I removed the GPRS connection from my internet settings.
So why does it require a cellular data connection ?
I don't think this is a Beta Live issue but a Windows Mobile issue.

No no.. it is MSN Live.. Sometimes it happends to me.. when I disconnect from internet, it connects back automaticly, even when MSN live is shut down..
That is knows bug with MSN Live beta, just soft reset your device and it should be back to normal..
Well.. to avoid this thing happenig, connect to internet first using PIE and when you get connection then connect with MSN Live, it works well that way..

Well, I read a post about AgileMessenger sending passwords in plain text via http. So I just sniffed my network connection while connecting to all servers via AgileMessenger and extracted the protocol...
(NB: vxSniffer does the job on the TyTN, just make sure you soft-reset after installation and switch the device off/on before use. And well, it only sniffs the WiFi connection - not the GPRS one...)
There was NO password sent in plain text. You could clearly see the https connection that was used to send it via encrypted channels.

I can't say to be honest because I never had problems connecting with the previous version, it very rarely failed to connect. This version seems to be connecting fine as well. I don't think it is dependent on having a fast connection either because T-Mobile in my area haven't upgraded to 3G (they are apparently sorthing this out in June) so I am using the standard slow GPRS connection.
Sandstheman mentioned that he got stuck on the Windows splash screen following installing and rebooting, this happened to me too but with a little luck and patience (5 soft resets and a quick removal of the battery whilst it was loading up) I managed to get it up and running again and it has been okay since.

Enjoy!
Installed and works. But i can't set sound notification for new msn messege and new contact online. The list at sound notification has not those items. how to do that? please advice
Thanks

Is this different/better than the pocket MSN app that comes on the Cingular 8525?
Personally, I prefer it to the standard Pocket MSN. The bits I like about it are that you can:-
1) See the photo of the contact (if they have uploaded one)
2) You can send files, pictures etc..
3) You can see emoticons
4) You can sign in as 'Offline' (sometimes useful if you want to see who is online before you log in :))
I am sure there are other improvements but it has been a while now since I used the old Pocket MSN so I can't remember what it did and did not do.
I guess it depends on what you like about messenger, if the above items are things you can take or leave, it probably isn't worth upgrading.

^^^ Yup. Since there are three version of messenger.
There is pocket messenger.
There is Live Messenger for mobile which can be accessed online.
And there is the one that I think everyone is having a problem with...
Windows Live and Windows Live Messenger for Pocket PC. Which is an actual *.cab file.
For most of us using the beta version of the later two, they stopped working as of yesterday or depending which part of the world you are then today.
The reason why I like the Windows Live is because you can set it up to have push email through your hotmail account. Which is really what I want.
