View Full Version : *Program Request*: Lost sdCard Notification Program

So this is a popular program for the Palm OS: NotifyMe! (http://mytreo.net/downloads/details-150.html) which basically is a little configurable application that would play a sound and/or vibrate if your SD card ejected.
I know a lot of people who "accidently" shoot their card out when pulling their device from a holster.
If it could have the features of "NotifyMe!" and be WM5 compatible it could be a very popular program. :D
TIA

Hi,
I saw your request 2 days ago, and I said why not! I checked the GUI of the NotifyMe application for Palm and I decided to make one for PPC.
Installation:
1) just unrar the file and copy the exe on your ppc (it may be installed on the sd card and launched from there, it works when sd card is removed, but don't select a music file from the sd card, no sound will be played of course)
2) launch the exe. The first time it will install the config control panel applet and launch it.
3) just configure the notif application and start it.
Useful infos:
This program has been tested on my ppc (see signature), on WM2005 ppc emulators and WM2003SE emulators.
There is no builtin sounds as the one for the Palm, but it can play different music type files like midi, wave, mp3 and wma files.
The app has been UPXed, so it is very small.
The notification stops either by pushing on the stop button or by putting the sd card back into its slot.
Enjoy,
Cheers,
.Fred
ps.: feedback appreciated...

Ha Ha Ha..
Yesssss , I am here.
Now I am using Blue Angel.
So I'm here these days.
But still have a look at Buzzdev.
Nice to meet you here.
I've tried it.
It works.
If I choose "Show message and Vibrate and Play sound", it doesn't vibrate and play wav as I choose.
I choose Alarm1.wav which is in ROM.
It only pops up sound and shows message on the today screen, no vibration and no sound.
But if I choose "Show message and Play sound" or "Show message and vibrate",it works fine.
I use BA WM5 AKU3.2 ROM(Helmi 1.3.2)
Thanksss.

You're right Vivi, when I make the test, it works, but when it should be done by the app, it doesn't...
Ok I will investigate this!
Ok, it's done, stupid of me! :x
Version 1.1 is available now...
Thanks for the feedback!

btw, just for info purposes:
- How would one remove the entry from the Settings tab to configure the program?
- I don't think this is working as it should on the Treo 700wx, but that is probably due to Palm's modifications of the OS. Basically, it only works when the device is powered on. If the device is in standby it doesn't "wakeup the device".

- it is possible, but tricky.
The control panel applet shown on the Settings/Personal Tab can be found in /windows/NotifyMeCpl.cpl. The trick would be to change the extension .cpl by .dll then open the notifyme.exe in an hex editor and replace notifymecpl.cpl by notifymecpl.dll.
To configure the program, you will need then to launch /windows/ctlpnl.exe notifymecpl.dll
I hope it's clear.
- I don't know how it works on a Treo, but I just use the standard notification api... On my ppc, whenever I pull the SD card out of its slot, the device wakes up... If you want I can try to add this functionality but I'm not sure if it will work. Maybe the program won't receive the notification that the sd card was retrieved.

dotfred,
Actually, I just meant how to remove the control panel applet (my sentence was a bit garbled!) e.g. if I just wanted to remove the program from my device.
In that case, is it just a matter of deleting /windows/NotifyMeCpl.cpl ?
As far as the Treo, don't worry about it for now. Palm did lots of trickery (for the better actually) such as changing registry entries so most "tricks" don't work now.
Once the 750v comes out for you GSM users, I'm sure more about how the OS is orientaited and organized will come out. Then it might be easier for us to nail down the problem (I unforutnately don't know enough to be of much help!)

1. try to fix it on pdaPhone
2. activesync with pc and fix it on pc
or try total commander..
http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm
if u still cant fix it, do a backup of your pdaphone and copy the backup file to your pc, then do a hardreset and try again

If you just want to remove thr program from the device, just delete the /windows/notifymecpl.cpl and delete the notifyme.exe whereever you put it on the pda.
If you want to clean the registry as well, delete the entries under
-HKCU/Software/FdcSoft/NotifyMe
-HKCU/ControlPanel/SoundCategories/NotifyMeCat
-HKCU/ControlPanel/Sounds/NotifyMeSound

This is surely related to the hardware and the associated driver. This is surely not related to the OS, but I'm maybe wrong. Anyway, I don't have a BA or a Wizard, so I can't find out. Give me one, and I will try!!! :D

The Palm version of this program, CardKeeper, was written back in 2004. I couldn't believe there was nothing like it for Windows Mobile. It should be part of the OS! Thank You very much for developing this.
I downloaded both 1.2 versions the other day: one for my WM5 Treo 700w, the other for my Dell Axim X30 running 2003SE.
The Wm5 version works great; the only thing I notice is when I turn the Treo on I hear a split-second of the alarm sound. Otherwise this version seems to work fine.
After installing the 2003 version on the Axim, I set the Axim aside. The battery was fully charged. A few hours later while sitting at my desk I heard the "low battery" warning sound, and yes, I only had 8% battery left. After charging the battery again I propped the unit up so I could watch it. The screen would turn off after 3 minutes, turn back on a couple of minutes later, turn off...and on and off and on. I pressed the 'Stop' button in the app, but noticed all sounds (screen taps, alarms, etc.) were now VERY soft. A soft reset brought the unit back OK, but something isn't playing nice.
I know you don't want to waste time on a dead version of the OS, but this may be something easy to figure out. Again, thanks for writing this.

I don't see further comments; I hope this isn't a dead topic! This a very important little program. It started playing an alarm in the grocery store recently and I wondered why. Looked at the SD slot -- it was empty. I somehow ejected the card while picking up an item. Found the card, but I never would have known it was gone until much later.
I notice I can eject a card while the Treo is "off" and no alarm is played. Is there any way to automatically wake the PPC up and play the alarm if the card is removed?

Hi dotFred.
I had my HTC Tytn / Vodaphone VPA Compact III replaced a short while ago. The new phone has ROM 2.04.161.2. The storage card vanishes at regular intervals so apps will not launch, but NotifyMe doesn't notice. It's as if enough of the file sytstem is cached for the OS to think it's still there. File Explorer and TotalCommander will show the Storage Card directory and some below it, but fail to open files when reading docs or launching apps.
Any ideas?

@DotFred: (and other programmers reading this)
One of the worst things about my Hima is that I often miss calls, txt messages, calender notifications because I don't hear them in the street noise. I can set notification sounds, but they only sound once. Silly concept, when I can't hear my loud ringtone due to street noise, I can't hear that notification either.
So what I've been trying to find is a way to set repeating notification sounds preferrably after configurable intervals.
I did actually find a way to change registry keys, but that resulted in these sounds repeating even after returning phone calls or reading SMS's and could only be stopped by soft reset.
I've written about this annoyance several times, so far only resulting in replies like "I agree".
So if you can find a solution, it would not only help me.
