One BIG question : Does it solve Screen Misalignment Issue?
Is it Chinese OS?

1. It's Traditional Chinese, not English;
2. Screen alignment is a hardware problem. Suggest return to retailer for replacement.

I read from the threads mentioning that this might be a software issue.
However I did receive email from Dopod Taiwan saying that they would replace the unit at no cost.
Too bad I am in the States and has no plan going to Taiwan soon.
They give time limit until August 31.

it's more SW... since :

1) It's improves after hard reset
2) Not all people changed their unit got rid of the issue
3) Not SN specific, some with HT63XXX still has issue
4) Some upgrade their ROM, and got rid of the issue
5) A guy in HK, used the digitizer driver for 838 non-pro, and fixed his issue.

Goodluck

I was surprised when I upgraded my Dopod CHT to the latest Dopod 838 Pro ROM, My Screen Misalignment is GONE! At least for the last three days, I've never had to align my screen. I have O2 Plus Installed and Opera Browser as well. I tested these couple days and Scrolling that was "Pain in the Butt"now become very smooth and never get stuck or mistap. Therefore, I conclude that this Screen Misalignment is purely 100% ROM issue.

well... Congrats...!!!

Let us know which version you used...and if the misalignment returns.

Did you load up your 3rd party apps yet ? You need to monitor after loading these apps.

Perhaps not 100%, I seem to recall people saying that when the device gets hotter, the screen misaligns more easily. And I have noticed that some ROM's like the TyTN that mine was shipped with made the device hotter. Allthou, I never have had any problems myself, so not totally sure. There could also be several different causes for misaligment, for eg. ROM, 3rd party apps, device temperature...

My unit does not misalign when it's hot. There is time that I just power on and misalign happened.

I just Hard reset my unit and loaded all apps as before and I had not have misalign (yet?) for 2 days now...

I have a CHT9000 but but like to have English Menu with Simplified Script Chinese input. Chinese menu is just akward.

I think my options are:
1. Keep CHT9000 ROM and use handwritting (no pinyin)
2. Flash to Dopod 838 Pro ROM & install some chinese software? I don't know what that is.

Would anyone care to provide some guidance?

Two Chinese language systems I've tried: Maction Monster Chinese and Mobem's CE-Star. Both correctly render Chinese (simplified and traditional). Only CE-Star works correctly with keyboard. If you don't intend to use Chinese handwriting, download "standard" version. I prefer Hanyu Pinyin input, it handles this very nicely. Can select between traditional and simplified directly from the SIP. Currently using CE-Star r2.8 for 10-weeks with no complaints.

As may have already been mentioned, to allow your keyboard extended characters to correctly map, you'll need to modify the QWERTY entry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
"Layout"=dword:00020404

Dear all knowledgeable people,
After my long standing friend (Nokia 9500) died of aging problems, after shopping around I decided to go for the Dopod CHT 9000.
Unfortunately in Taiwan there is no English version and, since my Chinese capabilities are not that good, I am struggling with my nice little phone.
Can anyone help to change into English?!!
May be this has been posted before, please redirect me accordingly

Info on changing ROM is in the Wiki:

I'm using the Dopod ROM on my CHT9000. It's available Original Shipped ROM Versions section. Read the instructions clearly before upgrading -- process takes 20-25 minutes. When finished, it'll reset and install external ROM tweaks. After installing, another reset will bring up the date and carrier setting wizard that'll take care of your GPRS/UMTS settings in Taiwan.

Cheers

Indee, it is understood. But I still get the error because th CID does not macht and, per this "So, you need a ROM with bootloader 1.04 and with a CID that matches the CID on your device, this is the only known way to downgrade the bootloader to 1.04 and then, you will be able to flash a ROM with any CID" as in the FAQ, where can I find the CHT 9000 ROM with a bootloader 1.04 that would match my CID?!
Sorry for my ignorance, but some of the things are not straight forward for everyone.
Thanking you allin Advance

Thank you very much. It worked!!!
I think for future references, it should be explained like this:
1- Download the original CHT version with bootloader 1.04 in order to downgrade the bootloader 1.06.
2- Download the desired ROM, then flash it.

CHT9000, glad you found your solution.

I'm a little confused though -- are you working with a stock CHT9000? Did it come with bootloader 1.06? That would be news!

Your original note said you simply wanted to change from Chinese to English. The CID for first two version ROMs of CHT9000 is DOPOD001. Same as dopod WWE ROMs (v1.23). Switching back and forth is trouble-free.

Unless you installed a non-dopod ROM (e.g., Cingular v1.31 or 1.34), you wouldn't have the bootloader v1.06 problem. This problem is described under "Common Upgrading Problems in HTC Hermes", Problem #3(B).

My ignorance might have killed the possibility of having this ROM uploaded here :-((, yes, it came with an original 1.06 bootloader, I just got it from CHT last week on contract.
So, as I said earlier, I used this one "RUU_HER_ChungHwa_1.25.751.4_1.07.03.10_CHT_SHIP" that replaced my bootloader to 1.04 and then when I installed the English version "HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP" and everything went well. My Chungwa Telecom menu has gone and, seems like I can not make video calls, but as long as this website exists along with all the good people, I will fix that one.
I will definitely make a donation, let me just figure out how to do it, I think is going to be the best well spent money of my entire life.
