Hi,
I'm using a 4GB card in my Qtek S200. Will it take the new 8GB cards?
Acording to this site...

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=6609

...the device needs "SD 2.0 (SDHC) specification " !?!

Do we have this?
Will we need a patch?
Will it be POSSIBLE to install a patch?
Or will we only sit and watch as owners of newer devices pass by, holding vast amounts of video and music?
Not to mention that having "SD 2.0" is a ticket to a nirvanic future of having up to 2TB (2048GB) of storage space...

Fingers crossed, I wait for reports from fellow Prophet owners...

They won't work on any current devices as the hardware needs to be different to recognise these high capacity cards.

Yes, you won't get any - while the new SDHC format is essentially just FAT32 - it's a proprietary FAT32 implementation that is INCOMPATIBLE with existing SD card readers (despite the fact that it's using the exact same slot). WTG SD-alliance for pulling a Sony.

Maybe drivers can be written, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The driver spec for SD-type cards is not open - it's a membership only thing that's simply just cheaper than Sony's Memory Stick stuff. Even Linux only has rudimentary support.

When I bought my 4gb SD card I had some readers that it worked with and others bombed out. So you are saying the the new 8gb SD has yet another fat32 formatting standard that won't work with ANY current devices or readers?

That is apparently the case. :(

well here's a couple of points for the optemists

1, we weren't sposed to have A2DP and we got it, if the prophet already accepts 4gb cards and fat32, then perhaps we could get the SDHC cards and possibily format them from this "SDHC" thing with it's added "features" (eg content protection infestation), down to standard fat32 and get the 8GB capacity that way, and forgoing the added "features"

2, I already use a 4GB card, so what about the possibility of partitioning an 8GB card into 2 4GB cards, just an idea.

3, possibly it's just a driver issue.

looks like a wait and see thing.

Many models of casio digital cameras only need new firmware to use sdhc cards. I belive we just need a new rom to enable sdhc.

I hope this can be enabled somehow. 8gb would be great!

The problem though is companies like HTC and iMate don't seem to care about supporting older hardware, and in their eyes the Prophet is older. They are planning on releasing 15 new devices next year, and they probably will add the firmware on those and use it as a selling tool to get you to upgrade. It’s the WM5 scenario all over again.

Hopefully someone smart will be able to lift the necessary details from a device that has it onto devices that do not.

When I had a sony P900 it would only accept 128MB memory stick duo. Everyone said it was a hardware issue. After about a month I flashed it to P910i firmware and then it supported Memory stick duo PRO (alot higher capacity). I am sure this is a software issue. What I'm not sure is whether we will get the drivers...
